A Dream of Jerry's Nugget

Unread post by LiquidSleight »

I had a VERY serious question to ask y'all.

If it were approved by the casino, how many of you might be interested in a reprint of the blue Jerry's Nugget playing cards, reproduced as faithfully and as closely as possible to the originals?

Keep in mind that the originals had a finish that is no longer possible to duplicate, as the machinery is obsolete, but we would work as hard as possible to come up with something similar.

What do you all think? If we get permission from the casino (not to mention approval from the general magic community), then there will be a Kickstarter Campaign for them.

Sound good? I want thoughts and opinions. KEEP IT HONEST.

Thanks!
Russell

This will never happen unless the Golden Nugget decides to reprint them with their own money and marketing. They know how popular and famous their old deck is, for some reason they have decided on not reprinting it. Realistically though, the market for buying a reprint JN is VERY SMALL, it would be more cost efficient to just have them reprinted in China and sell them in the gift shop.

If you wanna play in fantasy land, I'm sure everyone would want it on Bee Casino paper and Magic Finish.

unless... a big name like Dan and Dave did it... then with celebrity backing I think there would be a market.

There are reprints on ebay already, though overpriced and of poor quality I'm sure. From a collector's point of view, people want JN's for their history and unique handling. A reprint would have neither. So no, I would not be interested.

You'd be surprised how small the market is. Ask everyone you know if they want a reprint of JNuggs. I bet 99.9999% of them look at you and say 'I dont know what that is.'

No, Magic_Orthodoxy; we're actually talking about these: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_e0BG39ctq4A/S ... cb43_1.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I totally understand what you guys are saying. As a collector myself I am very aware of the view towards Jerry's. HOWEVER, I thought it might be fun to see what other people thought and whether or not this small group of forum magicians/collectors, etc. might have an interest.

I suppose it wouldn't work, but I'm glad that I got a response. Thanks very much!

... yes, I am. What of it? Most organizations can't survive without renewing their clientele and customer base.

:D joking, but seriously

Both the deck I posted and the deck he posted, both are actual decks from the casino purchased at the casino. The ones I posted got play - the other ones were new from the gift shop.

Yeah, sorry, I couldn't resist

Well, both of the ones you posted are new versions, while the "originals" are from the '70s and were printed with a unique finish that contain chemicals that are now banned to use.

wouldn't you think the fulton casino cards are an homage to Nuggets? Very similar "tower" design on the back

Not so much an homage as an attempt to capitalize on the JN's popularity. In my own humble opinion, of course
