'Deco' - from Encarded now live on Kickstarter
Some of you have probably already seen this topic via Facebook or my website, but I am working on a new deck, called Deco. You can read a pretty extensive discussion of what/why this deck is at

Re: 'Deco' - from Encarded
I like the back design and color choices. The edges look worn, which I think is pretty cool.
Thanks!

Re: 'Deco' - from Encarded
This looks really unique! Would have liked maybe a bit more design on the back but Im hoping the faces will make that seem pointless Interesting colour scheme, cant wait for this to be released!

Re: 'Deco' - from Encarded
These are purposefully meant to be a LOT simpler than my other designs. I like the challenges of constantly switching up styles.
I'll probably have a preview of spot cards in a short while, and I'm working on a variety of ideas for the court cards.

Are the chips and dice in the picture made to accompany the decks?
Thanks!

This deck has a lot of positives going for it so far. Non-traditional, interesting color scheme, thin borders (always love that) and subtle design elements on the corners and sides for interesting fans and spreads. I appreciate how you push the boundaries for how thin and innovative borders can be. I'd love to see custom court cards decked out with deco clothing. Looks like another successful offering.

Re: 'Deco' - from Encarded
Those were purely for the photo at this point (just my cheapo set I had laying around the house). I might pursue that after I get the cards sorted, I think it could be a nice add on. I'll probably chat with Randy Butterfield about that and see what his feelings are after doing the Ornate chips.BMPokerworld wrote:Paul,Encarded wrote:These are purposefully meant to be a LOT simpler than my other designs. Re: 'Deco' - from Encarded
Thanks Sinjin. I will do all I can to get USPCC to go as thin as possible on those borders, as I personally love that detail. We got Aurum just about as thin as any deck that's ever been done, so I hope we'll be able to get Deco right there with it.sinjin7 wrote:This deck has a lot of positives going for it so far. As for your court wish, I am a fan of Erte...

Re: 'Deco' - from Encarded
Erte is a great style for the court cards.
Found some Aces he did in his day.
Your designs are great Paul and bring several different layers and styles together creating something new and amazing. Please continue the great work and designs.

Wow, I hadn't seen those Jeff, thanks for sharing! I don't think I'll be able to use those directly (great artists steal, but not that much ) but that's great inspiration.

Re: 'Deco' - from Encarded
Paul its more the flow and the time frame that artwork holds in its style that comes across in the back design of your cards. Its and era of a time gone by that we wish we could capture again if only for a moment. Its an elagance that is not around anymore, if you can understand
Thank you,
Jeff

Like the right cornner index and pip!! A great subtlety for left handed card manipulators (like myself)!!

This deck is going to do very well! With all the small details, the flourisher in me is tingling with anticipation

I'm loving how this is coming along. With that much attention to detail in the spot cards, the courts are sure to be stunning.

Re: 'Deco' - from Encarded
I'd like some opinions from everyone on a detail of the Deco design. As you probably noticed, I added some small "poker peek" indices on the spot cards, but it was pointed out to me that I have them arranged in a non-standard fashion (suit, then number). I had reasons for how it is, but wanted to get feedback on 3 options for those. If you have an opinion and want to let me know which you prefer, please let me know!

Re: 'Deco' - from Encarded
If you put the numbers first, it will be easier to use them when playing cards.
Thanks!

Re: 'Deco' - from Encarded
That's a good question, Paul. I'm trying to figure out what would look better when doing a reverse fan (or indeed a regular fan by a left-hander). I suck at reverse fans though, so I probably won't mind either way. I definitely vote against the diagonal one though!
Re: 'Deco' - from Encarded
3rd option looks more natural. 2nd looks useful but is kind of jarring to look at.
Re: 'Deco' - from Encarded
I think the 3rd one looks like it makes the most sense. The other ones look awkward.

Re: 'Deco' - from Encarded
How about blank cards with all of the suits/pips/court graphics as decals? The uniqueness is that it's a "design your own" deck!!
I like option two, but I am almost alone in that choice, based on all that I have read! I just like stuff that's very different, I guess.

Re: 'Deco' - from Encarded
So far I have opinions for all 3, pretty equally! The 45 degree option is quite popular amongst people on other sites.
I think that as Collector said, when I get the courts determined these options might have a different impact. I personally like 2 and 3 now, with the interest of the angled one being intriguing to me...

Re: 'Deco' - from Encarded
Whilst liking the back design, this deck didn't stand out until seeing those pips... absolutely great! I prefer design 3.
Hence, as almost always, preference for some of the finer design details will come down to intended use of the cards - poker, other card games, flourishing, or collecting (... or collecting without opening the box... in which case the design is more of a theoretical concept, what you assume you'd see if you opened the box )
I'm guessing the other sites might be more Poker related. The angled option is the standard "poker peek" style - although they are usually either on the Top-Left/Bottom-Right, or all four corners (with Jumbo indices).Encarded wrote:So far I have opinions for all 3, pretty equally! This is why you shouldn't go with option 2, Paul.Gareth wrote:The angled option is the standard "poker peek" style
