Awesome!
You're the first person I've seen that has received their Apocalyptica decks. I'm also a fan of the Medusa deck

Agreed, love my Medusa decks, and it gets a lot of comments from friends who see it as well, second only to Curator probably. Looking forward to receiviing the other two as well.CBJ wrote:

Are you able to make out the back design on your Apocalyptica tuck boxes?MJF wrote:I just got these all in the mail today...
I am not. Did I miss an update?
No matter where you go... there you are :|
Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
It's the same as the front of the back but extremely faded... I think on their KickStarter updates they said that was exactly the look they were going for... I would argue there's barely a noticeable design in there since it's so faint... but overall, a good looking deck from the pics I've seen.

Check out the latest offering from D&D's Deck of the Month Club.
Can you see it through the bubbles?
Sometimes they really make it worthwhile.
Sorry, I can't edit this photo to be smaller on my iPad

I haven't posted for a looong time (but was following the new&custom deck thread) and just wanted to inform you of my recent purchase of Red and Blue Jaqk Playing Cards from jpplayingcards.co.uk. The site claims to send them in 4-8 days so when they arrive I'll be posting photos of those beauties
Btw my recent additions to my collection are Necronomicon, Bohemia and Vanda decks. Also I'm hoping to receive my Deck of the Extraordinary Voyages this week.

Okay, here are the things I have uploaded to photobucket in recent weeks, most of which are scans of recent purchases. My thoughts on each deck follow the scan of that deck:

==========[ ]==========This (and the following Peanuts decks) has great sentimental importance to me.
It was a deck like these (with a different back) which I purchased in 1968 or 1969, when I was ten years old, which inadsvertently sparked my interest in decks with custom courts, and started me on this hobby/obsession/addiction. I spent many an hour sitting on the floor of my bedroom back then, playing Rummy with my friends and siblings with a deck like these.

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
Hi fellow card collectors. I'm new here and I've just started collecting playing cards on and off for 2 years. I'm looking forward to read around these forums and learning all sorts of neat things about this hobby. For the meantime, I have taken a picture of what I have for now. Nothing like some of the collections i've seen in this thread, but I guess we all have to start somewhere I am in Montreal Canada, so this is why some of these decks have french on them. I tried to buy 2 of every deck so I could keep one sealed and have one to open up and take a look at the cards. But I have a few that I only could find one. So here they are, I pictured the backs of each deck under the fronts.

Welcome to these forums, Fezuke!
Pardon my asking, but is that a Dutch name? I ask because it reminded me of a Dutch friend whose name is Femke...
Indeed, we all have to start somewhere, and I would say that you have accumulated quite a hauul in only two years!
[GRUMPYOLDMAN]
Back when I started MY collection, we didn't have no fancy Interwebs, nor any BMPokerworld where we could buy all sorts of decks. We had to buy them at antique stores!
And we had to WALK to them - UPHILL - BOTH WAYS!!

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
Kinda hard to explain this name, It's my Online/Musician name. My real name is Sebastien. As for the no internet back in those days comment, I totally hear you. We ARE lucky we have these services today, because we only have very basic boring Bicycle cards here in Montreal. Hence why all the Hockey Decks LOL. While being a bit on the expensive side to buy 2 decks of each theme, I now have to buy these really slowly lately. I am on board for the Synthesis, Grid 2.0 and the SteamPunk Cthulhu decks on KickStarter. Wanting to get into the Federal 52 one, but man that thing is pretty pricey. Too bad because it looks beautiful.
Anyways, thanks for the welcome, and I'll keep on checking out older threads and getting more familiar with the names around here.

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
Here's what I got in today... Truthfully, I don't know why I ordered this deck and from the pics below, you'll see it's a crock of crap...
Yes, you are correct, the box is huge... there's a reason for that, as you'll see below... (shoddy packaging of course meant I got dings and creases on the box...)
For comparison sakes, I've lined them up next to a box of Fathoms... and then right side by side... Fathoms on the left this crap on the right...
Yeah, the printing job on these is just great... notice no consistency on the tones...
There's only a matte finish to these things, since they obviously weren't printed at USPCC... all the cards clump and stick together... no way anyone's doing fanning of any sorts here... OH, and if you're wondering YES, the metallic foil is printed right on top of the plastic laminate... I give that 3 or 4 uses and then it'll start rubbing off...
An example of what a fan should like and what these turds look like all clumped together...
Knowing that USPCC typical typical presses together three sheets to make their stock (middle dark laminate and two pieces of stock on outside - you can kind of see it in the image below on the torn Fathom card)... this crap is nothing more than tag board, laminated with cheap plastic sheets - see below:
The sad thing is, people are commenting on "how great these cards look" on the kick starter campaign... one even stated "these aren't your typical Bicycle cards" - DUH - those would mean quality compared to this crap.
So in closing, $13.00 down the crapper... the designer must've made out like a bandit on the cheap quality decks and shoddy packaging and shipping...
I think I'm going to start a new thread... 52 ways to destroy a Stealth Card... - Shoot me ideas folks!

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
Wow! that DOES look super cheap!
As for me, i've found a badly cut card in my Anne Stokes Collection Deck. I had never noticed it until last night.
But earlier today, something cheered me up, Found these 4 decks at walmart for 3.84$ each. Made my day.

Re: The "Hey, look what I added to my collection!" thread
sms69s, did you notice that all of the jacks, queens and kings on the Virginia Slims courts are portrayed by women?
At least I think they are women...
Okay, here are scans of some light-hearted decks I've picked up recently, shown in my "grid format".
First, a "headings" grid to explain the format
==========[ Headings ]==========
==========[ M&Ms_MilkChocolate ]==========
==========[ M&Ms_Peanut ]==========
==========[ M&Ms_World_LasVegas_1 ]==========
==========[ M&Ms_World_LasVegas_2 ]==========
==========[ M&Ms_Round ]==========
Okay, some explanation:
First off, the focus of my collection is on decks with custom/non-standard courts.
Back in the 1990s, when my collection was just starting to take off, I saw ideas for custom courts everywhere. Once, when buying a bag of M&Ms, it occured to me that the M&Ms characters would make a fun custom court. They didn't have the sexy, Green lady M&M yet, so I don't know what my idea for the Queen was - maybe one of the others in drag.
A couple of weeks ago I ran across the Milk Chocolate and Peanut ones above while cruising eBay. The M&M guys were on the courts, and the decks were reasonably priced, so I got them both. When they came, I was disappointed by a couple of things:
1. The courts "repeated" (all the jacks were the same image, etc)
2. The courts were not posed in traditional "courtish" postures.
One interesting thing: the boxes for these are made to look like the boxes M&Ms come in at a movie theater snack bar, so they do not have the semicircular cutout that a typical tuck box has.
A few days later, I found the "Las Vegas M&M World" ones on eBay, which also had repeating courts, but at least the courts were more in keeping with traditional court poses.
Finally, I found the round deck. I've obtained a few Round decks recently, so this deck sort of tied my recent M&M deck "subcollection" with my recent Round deck subcollection quite nicely.
At least I think they are women...

Indeed. The sepia-like tints on the courts is nice, IIRC.Beautiful deck btw!!
When I bought my copies, they were already around twenty years old, having been published in the mid-to-late 1970s.
Now, they are around forty years old - soon to be categorized as "vintage"!
