Ellusionist Mystery Deck (Series 1900, etc.)
Looks like a re-do of the Ellusionist Series 1800 decks, re-done to avoid modifying the Rider Back trademark. I'll say it's well done, good vintage distressing, cards are still marked. It looks like it'll be a mass market deck, Ellusionist isn't featured heavily on the tuck, just on the ad cards.

I really do love these vintage styled decks. The 1800 were one of the early early decks in my collection
Jackson completely revolutionized the way I waste money...

Re: Series 1900 Deck by Ellusionist & USPCC
Now this is the Ellusionist I remember. Thats how you do a deck kids! I have been so downon them lately as I thought the douchebaggery would end after the annointed one left. Sadly we were left with overhyped decks and juvenile emails of which I just recently unsubscribed from. Sad, since I was a Black club member and really loved those early decks like Artifice and Arcane. Let us not forget the Sultan Deck which still to this day is one of the sexiest tucks ever.
Anyways, this 1900 deck gives me hope. Kinda like when you stay with a band you love. You know they are past their prime but then they drop one amazing song off their latest crappy album and you immediately say "oh yeah, they're back". Then they put out a turd for their next single...

Re: Series 1900 Deck by Ellusionist & USPCC
Got my hands on these today. Very nice.
AFAIK, the 1800s are discontinued due to the trademark restrictions on textures, markings, or other changes on the Rider Backs. What E has done on the 1900s is clever. The actual main design of the backs is unaltered. It's just the solid Rider Back design. All of the aging and texture has been applied to the border.
This still gives it a great aged look, but it's not as over-the-top as the 1800 decks. I'd be much more inclined to use these in performance.
The marks are not as easy to quickly read & decode as the most recent version of the 1800s (which had 2 or 3 different marking system iterations over the years, IIRC) but it can be spotted and learned without much issue, I think.
Here are pics of the twos and tens. Both are laid out in CHSD order. I'm sure without much looking you can see what techniques are being used to differentiate the suits/values. I won't post too much else in detail for those who like the puzzle of figuring things out on their own.

Re: Series 1900 Deck by Ellusionist & USPCC
I didn‘t like the 1800s and I don‘t like most distressed looking decks in general. But these are quite intriguing and knowing that E! drops their prices quite often so that you‘ll be able to get these for a bargain, I might end up with my first distressed look deck.

Re: Series 1900 Deck by Ellusionist & USPCC
I just noticed that these are now available for pre-order over on PlayingCardDecks for $9.99 here:
https://playingcarddecks.com/products/1 ... ying-cards" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
What kind of instructions come with them about the marking system? Do they have a link to online instructions or video tutorial, or is the system just explained on an included card?

Re: Series 1900 Deck by Ellusionist & USPCC
No explanation was included in the deck, or given when I ordered. Splitting up the cards by suit and number and riffling through, I kinda figured it out. I don't know if this is the same markings as the marked 1800s.

Re: Series 1900 Deck by Ellusionist & USPCC
If I recall correctly, the 1800's had at least two different marking systems, and at least one of them (more likely both) were readers (ie, the system was really just embedding the card rank and suit written in plain numbers/letters/shapes).

You can see examples of the 1800 marking system here:

That may make a couple of the recent decks reasonable to get at $9 each rather than the overpriced $18.

Luckily for us E (and T11) are still in the $10-12 range for most of their decks. Not quite the ego that the Buck's have...STLBluesNut wrote:That may make a couple of the recent decks reasonable to get at $9 each rather than the overpriced $18.

If you could erase E from the sentence above I'd be on board, but comparing E with AoP and then talking about ego!?vasta41 wrote: Luckily for us E (and T11) are still in the $10-12 range for most of their decks. Not quite the ego that the Buck's have...
Plus 95% of the latest E decks are rubbish, therefore AoP has to charge more than E for their mediocre/slight above average decks.

Re: Series 1900 Deck by Ellusionist & USPCC
For anybody wondering, E's link to a mystery deck (https://www.ellusionist.com/mystery-deck.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) is no longer the 1900 deck. At least for me anyway. During their 50% off sale I bought one hoping and expecting to receive a 1900 deck but I got something called a Tinker deck
I will take and post pictures of it when I have time in a new thread. But an FYI to anyone interested.

Re: Series 1900 Deck by Ellusionist & USPCC
Lol I did the same thing as you and went for the mystery deck for half off. Its not bad for $4.98, especially as it has that new Cartamundi stock I've been wanting to take for a test drive. My kids liked it a lot too! Not as nice as the B9 but pretty snappy and thin. Almost felt a bit plastic-y

Re: Series 1900 Deck by Ellusionist & USPCC
I saw somewhere that last month's mystery deck was a recolor of Madison's Kittens. I wish I had picked them up at the time, but I guess I'll get them when they become officially released this holiday season. I ordered this third one (Tinker deck) and it may even be waiting for me in the lockbox today. I picked up a couple 1900's over at playingcarddecks.com, if I recall correctly.
