Looks like they are now launching the 28th.Sharpie wrote:Anyone see these? I can't find them.

Sweet. Is it wrong that I kinda like the sketched version better than the finished art?Strag wrote:Looks like they are now launching the 28th.Sharpie wrote:Anyone see these? I can't find them.
Maybe as an add on to the campaign...

These are very cool! I like the colors, and the design is very cool. I'll definitely try to pick up some of these.

Cardlovers,
Due to Kickstarter verification processes taking a few business days, the launch of the Sultana deck will be further delayed. Updates as they come.

Re: Sultana Playing Cards -Now Live on Kickstarter
Such a pity the intl shipping is ridiculous for low number of decks, no point going in even on the early bird.

Re: Sultana Playing Cards -Now Live on Kickstarter
Why are they calling 10 decks a brick? I guess they did not get the memo that KS is okay with a brick of twelve on playing card campains.

Only at higher levels, shipping puts me off when i just want to get one or two decks..cosmicsecret wrote:the 5 deck pledge is fair for internationalsvolantangel wrote:Such a pity the intl shipping is ridiculous for low number of decks, no point going in even on the early bird.

Re: Sultana Playing Cards -Now Live on Kickstarter
The 5 deck cost of shipping is better than you think. At 5 decks it is cheaper to ship it using a small USPS Flat rate box. That is $23.95, the project starter is only asking for $10.cosmicsecret wrote:the 5 deck pledge is fair for internationalsvolantangel wrote:Such a pity the intl shipping is ridiculous for low number of decks, no point going in even on the early bird.
Re: Sultanate Playing Cards - Launching on Kickstarter Feb 2
The current back design is inspired by "Islamic tapestry design." But the project creator has said he's gonna change it up a bit to fit better with the art deco theme of the rest of the deck. Personally I think his design work is gorgeous.MagikFingerz wrote:No back design?
P.S. Those are NOT his alternate back designs ... those are the backgrounds for the court cards. I think they have a strong Alfons Mucha feel to 'em.
Re: Sultana Playing Cards -Now Live on Kickstarter
Deco Playing Cards here!
Don't worry-- the back design will not be drastically different from the one you dig, GBAllison. It will incorporate the Persian carpet elements AND the Alphonse Mucha circular composition present on the fronts of the cards. It will be awesome.
Cardists, I have a question for you. Do any of you have any direct feedback on the cards, on the project page, or how a card business neophyte might reach the intended audience? The future of my business is at the mercy of enthusiasts like yourselves, and I have really cool projects and extremely talented artists in mind for the future if I can get this project to its goal. Let me know how I can better serve you!

General tips for pleasing cardists:DecoCards wrote:Cardists, I have a question for you. - Thin borders (makes fans more aesthetically pleasing)
- Indices fairly close to the edges (or at least not too far from them, especially when the indices are in a big font)
- Two-way back design (subtle one-way backs are fine)
Less important:
- Circular back design (makes single card spins and flourishes with rotating packets more aesthetically pleasing)
I've probably forgotten something, so feel free to add to this.

On their KS description, it states the deck will have a smooth finish. Personally, I think that's a mistake and they should opt for an Air Cushion/Magic finish instead.

Re: Sultana Playing Cards -Now Live on Kickstarter
I agree, definitely go air-cushion finish.
I have already backed the deck, but I had 1 concern. The "Subscription" option to get the next 2 decks you make... what if those decks don't happen to get funded or made? Will you offer those people a partial refund, or give them 2 additional Sultana decks, or what?

Re: Sultana Playing Cards -Now Live on Kickstarter
Maybe I'm demonstrating some ignorance here, but there is a widespread belief that some Islamic art contains deliberate mistakes so the artist won't offend God by attempting perfection. Would a two-way back with a subtle "mistake" in the symmetry be in order?MagikFingerz wrote: - Two-way back design (subtle one-way backs are fine)
Oh wait. I took a closer look, and there's a little of this going on already.
Signature? I ain't got no signature. I don't need no signature. I don't have to show you any stinking signature.
Re: Sultana Playing Cards -Now Live on Kickstarter
OK, here we go! The new backs (which still looks two way to me) are getting close. I guess it's not final yet, but the artist has done a mockup that shows the overall look, and then a bit of the detail-work. Personally, I think this is a huge improvement over the first back design. (Just my two cents.)

Re: Sultana Playing Cards -Now Live on Kickstarter
What's with the dotted line surrounding the courts? I think they would look much better by just removing that altogether.
Also: Needs thinner borders (faces included)!

That new back we promised? It's almost here! We are putting on a few finishing touches, but our artist Dave created a mock-up preview card! The final cards won't have the dotted die lines, of course!
Please tell is what you think!
