I think the gaff deck is interesting but not touching this cheap money grab. The comments are pissed off too about late stretch goals. Hope tons of backers drop out.
Move on, nothing to see here.

Re: Jerry’s Nuggets reprint soon to be on Kickstarter
I was never in on this campaign as I tend to avoid standard decks. I have been amazed at the success of the campaign and I agree that the success has probably gotten to EPCC's heads. Those stretch goals are delusional.
However, after thinking about it, I just see this as setting up the next campaign. I don't think they truly believe they will hit those new funding goals, but they will gather a LOT of interest for their next campaign which will include all of those variations. Those backers who are pissed will still back the next campaign and they know it. I will still avoid the campaign, despite Jackson's involvement. Peace out

Re: Jerry’s Nuggets reprint soon to be on Kickstarter
I wouldn't say the JR deck is crap. It is definitely league's better than the other decks and if there was a casino style deck that I would ever buy, it would be this one. However, out of sheer principle I would not pledge on this hype train campaign.
Perhaps, if the JR deck was available for a good price as a single deck. I haven't looked at the campaign at all but I assume there would be some catch. It would be in a bundle or only as an add on to other pledge tiers. The other decks, I wouldn't walk 5ft to get one free.

Re: Jerry’s Nuggets reprint soon to be on Kickstarter
I have been without internet for two months so all my precious internet moments have been dealing with our campaign fulfilment.
I come back, like a traveller from the distant past to see how far the world has come in the months since The Parlour, Luminosity, Monolith and Fillide were on Kickstarter. And I see this campaign has raised more than all of them combined.
And yet...
I mean what is it, a radio tower or a fancy ladder? I genuinely don't understand the theme of this design.
If it's based on an old, rare deck, surely the value is based on the fact that it's rare. Like how my dad has a suitcase full of random, often unpopular songs from the 60s that are worth a lot of money just because they're original demos.

Re: Jerry’s Nuggets reprint soon to be on Kickstarter
It's an oil derrick, a pretty common sight in parts of the American west, still to this day. In the old days, lots of roadside attractions used to put up whatever signage they could to get attention on the highway, and sometimes old oil derricks (or more often, "fake" oil derricks designed to be signposts from the beginning) would be used for such purpose.Jocu wrote:I mean what is it, a radio tower or a fancy ladder? There are many other related kinds of kitsch Americana like giant fiberglas statues or buildings made to look like an object, or Googie architecture in general.
Basically it's nostalgia.

Well, those were used for actually drilling and lining the drilled hole with pipe lining and such. Fracking takes the whole process to another level. Mostly what I see are oil pumps like the one below. These will pump oil out of an oil well into containers that are then picked up and sent to refineries or piped to refineries. I am definitely not an expert on the processes though.

I'm sorry, what was the point of this campaign again?
outsider- Thanks for the info. I never made the connection. It actually makes the design look even worse to me now.
Jocu- If that old suitcase has records that were demos or bootlegs or just not well known recordings, I know a guy that might be interested. Apparently there is a community that collects 50's and 60's "garage" recordings by artists that no one has heard of. And you thought card collecting was a niche hobby.

Re: Jerry’s Nuggets reprint soon to be on Kickstarter
The first time I heard about Jerry's Nuggets is actually from it's parody counterpart - Chicken's Nuggets by Hanson Chien. I own the White one, and I must say, the cards are cool, with a funny courts consuming junk food.
When I made a quick browse of Jerry's Nuggets, I see the cards are really legendary. I try to look everywhere, but to no avail. All the stocks from Lee Asher is all gone, and the only ones left are in eBay, which costs hundreds of dollars - which I can't afford, unless I am a billionaire.
All hope seemed to be lost until news came in about Expert Playing Cards gain a license to reprint the Jerry's Nuggets. I am so happy by hearing this, and decide to back it up. Of course, at first, they do the Modern Feel, which the card finish is up to today's standards. Then they did the Vintage Feel, which is to try to be similar to the original 1970s. I handled the decks, and I can tell the difference.
To their defense, at least EPCC tries to help every card enthusiasts to have Jerry's Nuggets without costing you an arm and a leg - to make it affordable from everyone else. All though, if you have a LOT of money, by all means, get a few OG Jerrys from eBay.

Re: Jerry’s Nuggets reprint soon to be on Kickstarter
It's a nice sentiment, but the reason OG JNs are so expensive is that they cannot be reproduced the same. Reprinting the design with the JN Finish isn't the same end product. And this is coming from someone who genuinely thinks the JN Finish is the closest we'll come to that. It's just a money-grab for an ugly deck IMO.laitostarr777 wrote:...To their defense, at least EPCC tries to help every card enthusiasts to have Jerry's Nuggets without costing you an arm and a leg - to make it affordable from everyone else. I think that the prototype JN Finish S&B decks are a better buy/own.

Not just in your opinion. Not meant as a negative judgement towards EPCC, since earning money is a huge part of a company, but it was an easy money grab from EPCC and a smart decision to feed off the hype around the JN decks.theCapraAegagrus wrote:It's just a money-grab for an ugly deck IMO.

Re: Jerry’s Nuggets reprint soon to be on Kickstarter
I am afraid to say that most backers are not happy, judging from all the comments in the Kickstarter Project. Some of them got their rewards delayed, EPCC replies are slow, package receive with damages, etc. My experience, I received my rewards inside a recycled delivery box - delivery box for Cheesecake, and within those peanuts foam, I found Amazon receipt of someone buying a DVD sethsbc wrote:Businesses gotta business, and people who backed seem to be happy with these, so really I'm just glad it's another deck I won't ever need to pay for
The most notable problem is that people complain that the Red Vintage Jerry's Nugget deck has a huge problem. When it is intensively used, the sides of the cards start to turn pink - there is ink transfer from the back of the cards, just like Hanson Chien's Red Chicken Nuggets.

I think the real money grab is when EPCC released Jerry's Nugget Owner Reserve - the black version with the gold oil derrick - all of a sudden, and sold for 90$Harvonsgard wrote:Not just in your opinion. Re: Jerry’s Nuggets reprint soon to be on Kickstarter
Hmmmm, if it’s true that they still have stocks for the Owner Reserves, then those who don’t have it might get a chance. BUT if they sell those in higher price, then NOPE - that simply using Jerry’s Nugget fame to get more money, which probably broke the license deal?Harvonsgard wrote:laitostarr777 wrote:I think the real money grab is when EPCC released Jerry's Nugget Owner Reserve - the black version with the gold oil derrick - all of a sudden, and sold for 90$Harvonsgard wrote:Not just in your opinion. Yah, I laughed so hard I would have spilled my coffee through my nose if I would had taken a sip when I saw that. The fun was over when i saw people asking to buy some at the aftermarket though as if $90 wasn't inflated enough
. They only sold 100 though and kept 400 if I remember correctly. Which is quite interesting to see if they release the remaining ones for a higher price. Would be very blatant to do, but who knows, maybe they give a sh** and pull it off.
Have checked eBay, and the Owner Reserves had reached up from 200-350$. If I had a lot of cash in my pocket, I would rather get the 1970s JN rather than this

I shouldn't be and aren't really shocked to see the prize those were sold on eBay; yet I admit a mild surprise on what folks spend their money.
Never ever - reproductability and everything taken into account - should one pay more than $100 for a vintage deck this mass produced and still in existince. I would certainly try to get in touch with Dominique Duvivier if I were interested in getting one.laitostarr777 wrote:If I had a lot of cash in my pocket, I would rather get the 1970s JN rather than this

Re: Jerry’s Nuggets reprint soon to be on Kickstarter
I think you missed the point. Hanson mocks EPCC and USPCC for the quality of their product in this post! (which I endorse
)
After fullfillment, which took pretty long but okay it were a lot of decks, Three problems occured: 1. borders - as so often with USPCC printed deck nowadays 2. colour migration of the EPCC printed vintage feel JN - edges turn pink after some handling and 3. smashed brick boxes (which of course can be a shipment problem and might be something which EPCC isn't to blame for)
The back story is that shortly after EPCC announced the reprint of the OG JN design. Hanson anounced the parody of the Arrco JN and printed prototypes on a new stock. He sold and gifted some of the prototypes and started a kickstarter campaign for the print run of the Vintage Jerry's nuggets. After the kickstarter of the EPCC reprint JN the campaign of the Hanson Vintage JN was taken down because someone filed a IP claim against them. Clues hint towards EPCC since the old Chicken Nuggets that parody on the OG USPC JN were untouched over all the years when EPCC didn't hold the JN license. Now out of the sudden IP claims were filed.

My main gripe with USPC is registration (uneven borders) as demonstrated in Hanson's picture.
