Unfortunately when I add the cards to cart, it says they do to have enough for my order and a red box says they have -29 in stock. May have to email them and see if I can get some.shermjack wrote:Actually, Kraken Rum prints ‘Kraken’ Playing Cards to promote their brand...there have been a few versions over the years.Decknowledgy wrote:I just don't understand with so many decks applying the giant squid, why won't anyone name their decks "KRAKEN"?

Re: Voyagers Deck by Joker and the Thief coming soon to KS
Hi everyone,
We thought we'd stop by here and talk about this new deck. Thank you for creating a thread about these. It's been a while, and we'd also like to address our past actions.
But first, the name. Voyagers is now SEAFARERS, and while we've considered the name Kraken, it would work better if our design had squids instead of octopuses haha. The name is changing because another company has filed a legal trademark for the term Voyager, so for obvious reasons it is best for us to change. Not only that, but it will be beneficial for us in the long run as it differentiates our deck.
So, we'd like to acknowledge the incident regarding the "sets" in our last campaign. We recognise that our responses here were not 100% professional, especially with the pressure we were under at the time. To rectify the situation, we did our best with what we had at the time, for those who reached out to us. Most cases reached a satisfying solution. To those who were let down, we are very sorry. Just so you all know, we genuinely had no ill intent towards the creation of those rewards and our backers - the "sets" were a result of pressure and poor decision making on our part. For the rest of the campaign, around 800 orders of just decks were successfully shipped and the feedback has been very positive, for which we are grateful. That said though, it is important to deploy empathy, and we recognise that some of you may be cautious of us as a result of the past. This is completely understandable.
Going forward, with this campaign, we'll be focussing on what we're good at, which is simply producing cards. We're super excited about these ones too, as nautical is a theme that we've wanted to do since the start.
We won't be producing any limited edition set or rewards until we know exactly what we are doing. The whole scenario was a valuable lesson learned.
Thank you for your understanding.
And love from JT to the UC community.

Re: Voyagers Deck by Joker and the Thief coming soon to KS
Well said, James. I am new to this community so I came on board in the aftermath of the recent campaign. Needless to say, there is a stigma associated with Joker and the Thief, so I was wary when I saw this Seafarer campaign.
Your response has done a lot to alleviate my concern that those associated with Joker and the Thief are disconnected from the playing card community. It's refreshing to see you address the past unpleasantness and stick to what you love to do: make great playing cards. I can't speak for those who backed your campaign but I think this a step in the right direction and I'll keep an eye out for how things go moving forward. Peace out and thanks for doing the brave thing.

Hi James,
pretty cool that you stay connected with the card scene. Always a pleasure to see new JT decks and since I never backed, I had no bad feelings after all

I totally understand that you won't publicly say the name of the company, since this could have other legal consequenses, but it would be cool if you could pm me the name, so that I now who to avoid. Bicycle or T11? I would tend to Bicycle, since I think T11 is not a pussy company.Joker and the Thief wrote:The name is changing because another company has filed a legal trademark for the term Voyager, so for obvious reasons it is best for us to change.

Re: Seafarers Deck by Joker and the Thief coming soon to KS
Hey guys,
Apologies for the late reply to your comments. We really have to say a huge thank you for your consideration and kind words. Love to all of you.
And like we mentioned before, we understand if some of you may still be wary of Joker and the Thief. We just want to reiterate that we understand your point of view - the backers of our limited "set" tier were left disappointed, and our oversight and mistake left a bad taste in our mouth as well. We had never made a mistake like that before, and do not intend to repeat it.
Going forward, we've been super busy getting ready for the launch of the Seafarers, which as I am writing this, is only a matter of hours away!
We'd like to touch on what brought about this deck. It's incredibly exciting to launch a nautical theme deck - being on the water was a big part of my childhood. I spent a lot of it fishing with friends and family, sailing and spending time at the beach. The ocean has been a big part of my life personally. It is also a theme that we've wanted to do since the beginning of Joker and the Thief. To have a concept in your head when you were 17 and to be finally putting it out 5 years later is a pretty awesome feeling.
In the end, we just want to make some great cards! And, we hope that some might make their way into your collections.
Thanks again guys!

Anyone know how KS prices stack up against retail prices for their previous projects? Backed, but would also see any chances to save on shipping.

Re: Seafarers Deck by Joker and the Thief coming soon to KS
Hey Decknowledgy,
Thanks for your support and getting into the SEAFARERS campaign. Our decks typically retail at $15usd per deck on our website.
Kickstarter is definitely the best place to get the best rates for our decks. On our past campaigns, based on how many decks you bought the price would decrease from $15 to $14, to $13 etc.
Thanks,
James

Re: Seafarers Deck by Joker and the Thief coming soon to KS
Since, j&t came back here and reengaged and the deck is very nice, although I could have used a bit more tuck love, I did back this for my usual 1 deck. I usually only buy more than one if i think my son would like them as well. His style is a bit more colorful graphic design more than intricate illustration.
Ended up backer number 1 hehe. I was just trying to get an EB because you never know what campaign will only put up like 10.
As you have seen from posts in other threads, I generally give the benefit of the doubt. I feel like lessons were learned here and things will remain on the up and up.

It isn't that steep for me, but still a bit too pricey for me without the EB. I'll sit on the sidelines. I was willing to join in though. Best of luck. It looks like the campaign will do fine. I like the design, but the price is a bit high for the regular tiers in my opinion. However, I reserve the right to change my opinion later.

I'm passing due to cost. I would have most likely been in on an EB. I was disappointed to see they were backer limited only. I think we've seen plenty of campaigns that prove a timed EB does not seem to prevent a campaign from doing great.hsbc wrote:Yep, I backed but it's $20 for a single deck shipped to the US Timed early birds in the future please?

Re: Seafarers Deck by Joker and the Thief coming soon to KS
We'll have to look into timed tiers in the future. We'll do some research and see how it works, it's not something we've played with before.
In terms of the cost - $5 to ensure that your cards are pretty much guaranteed to arrive in perfect condition, with a tracking number and confirmation email is fair in our opinion. It that's also the lowest cost we can go before taking a loss.
Our campaign is also working on a sliding scale. 1 deck is $15, 2 decks are $14 each, 3 decks are $13 each, 6 decks are $12 each etc. Considering this is a completely custom deck with specialised packaging, the price of the cards and the shipping is reasonable in our eyes. But of course that's up to you guys to determine that.
We see it this way, we see a lot of decks out there going for $18+ with what some might call very minimal work put in. $15 for a luxury deck that took at least 6 months to design, seems pretty good in comparison. This is only us putting ourselves into the shoes of someone looking to buy a deck.
Just some thoughts to consider. Either way, thank you for your support and feedback!
Thanks,
James

I'm not sure about the tuck. The ink smudges and comes off creating a unique tuck? Sounds very odd to me and will ruin the tuck.
Move on, nothing to see here.

Hey James - Shipping seems, indeed, high. May be, check with Gamblers Warehouse next time. I was looking to jump on it, but shipping cost stopped it midway. I am sure to get this deck at a considerable lesser cost in aftermarket. There are a good number of fully custom illustrated decks that still offer free shipping (at least to US based backers) and reduced shipping to non-US backers on Kickstarter. All the best but shipping is a dampener.

What's up everyone!
We just posted an update on our campaign and we thought we'd offer a rare insight into the process of designing playing cards.
We've started a new blog series called Design Deep Dives and in this one we're giving people a peek into the creative process of playing cards from sketch to finish.
Here's just some of what went into the Seafarers design - https://jtplayingcards.com/blogs/the-jo ... ying-cards" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
