Re: Cardistry Club by Vanda
David - thanks for engaging with us; I know we can often be a difficult bunch. I am not a cardist and that is one of the two reasons I did not back you but the three decks that appeal to me most as a collector are Bills, Cube and Dots (in that order) as I like the borderless backs on Bills and Dots with some interesting courts and there is something in Cube that I like but can’t quite put a finger on.
Don’t beat yourself too hard. As you said yourself, it was a fairly ambitious project to begin with but I think you are also suffering because of the proximity of your campaign to TGW/Lorenzo, Jody, Randy, Jocu and Nikolai. In addition to yours, there are currently five really nice decks getting funded so there is an element of that.
Good luck with the relaunch.

Re: Cardistry Club by Vanda
For me it's Cambio, Ren, and Polaris. But I'm definitely liking the designs you're trying in this thread as well as some of the more recent designs you put out on your Instagram page!
I think by limiting the users to the cardistry bunch makes it rather difficult for you to pin down. Cardistry decks don't necessarily have a confined style or approach; many times there no way to know why a certain deck is valued so greatly in the community. I'd say you still have to keep it open for at least the usability for gameplay, or else having reaccuring designs on both front and back will drastically limit your market.
Also, I still want to point out that the fan renders in the previous posts are still not a thumb fan

I thought the deck was pinched a bit right of center...see this:Decknowledgy wrote: Also, I still want to point out that the fan renders in the previous posts are still not a thumb fan

Re: Cardistry Club by Vanda
It could be from the lower left to the lower middle, but not quite possibly the right corner
This video here I just followed your link and saw it in a recommend that has a clearer view of several thumb fans:
Believe me, Ekaterina's thumb fan grip will look extremely odd for the majority of card handlers.

Re: Cardistry Club by Vanda
It's not always about effort, but aesthetics. Most minimalistic courts that I have seen are usually worse looking than modified standard courts, despite the increased effort. The top of the food chain is always well executed fully custom courts, but absent that I'd much rather see standard courts over poorly executed custom courts. We all have seen many failed KS decks with nice custom backs with potential, but the deck was ruined with crappy minimalistic courts, or courts that had the faces of the artist's friends/family, or just unappealing custom courts.davegk wrote:Also, FWIW, modified standard courts are way less effort than minimalistic stylized courts :p
I think the teal and yellow version is a great improvement visually over the yellow and gray, keep up the progress!

I am a fan of Squares, Dots, and Tuxedo. I am not a cardist however. I greatly enjoy the minimalist courts

Re: Cardistry Club by Vanda
Just want to say I appreciate that you have something in the upper right corners of the faces. I like to handle cards ambidextrously, and while a clockwise face-up fan looks nice with the indices, a counter-clockwise fan looks boringly white with most decks.

Re: Cardistry Club by Vanda
Back and forth a bit but I think I like this version...
- center band is square to the card rather than angled (makes a cool display when cards are lined up next to each other
- thinner eye ring on faces
- orange ornaments on faces
- slightly thicker borders on back give the white areas more visibility in fans (and cutting issues will be slightly less pronounced)

For the recent design shared here; I really like the courts that go beyond the card’s border. Have you tried this idea with the number cards, too?

The shading on the back of the card gives it an optical illusion feel to it...my eyes are having trouble focusing

Re: Cardistry Club by Vanda
So for the relaunch I'm thinking of offering 3 deck designs:
- Cambio
- Eye (the new deck I've been mentioning)
- (backers vote on 3rd deck)
The voting options will most likely include 4-6 choices and a mix of decks in the original campaign along with some completely new ones. Here's one of the ideas I've been toying with...

Re: Cardistry Club by Vanda
Oh man...I really like "SNAP!" because that's the sound a card makes, but you're right it probably is too similar to that deck.
Maybe "BLAM!" cause it's more unique of a word?
Also, toying with the concept of a modified Polaris Lunar deck...either "white border" or "cardistry" edition...

Re: Cardistry Club by Vanda
I was actually a big fan of the dark/light borderless Polaris in the original project, would gladly buy that exact deck right now. At the price you were offering them at in that campaign, I'd buy several.
Stone cold, I would be much less interested in a white border version. To me a major selling point is how gorgeous those borderless fans look.
Another thought I've been mulling over is that no small part of what attracted me to this campaign is that it's not only good looking cards, but Vol I especially was a bargain. Apparently combining shipping makes a pretty big difference. To that end, I would be more than fine with a quarterly subscription model that mails sets of 3 decks at a time to save on shipping. I would also be fine if sometimes the 3 decks were a set, such as three variants of Polaris or three geometric designs in black and white, etc.
I don't mind paying a bit extra for collectible decks but for cards I intend to take out and play with, eventually wear out and replace, I really appreciate a good price. Maybe I feel less guilty going wild and having fun with cards that didn't set me back so much.

Re: Cardistry Club by Vanda
Yeah, I was really hoping that the price point would be a huge draw, especially for collectors... $75 shipped for a mixed brick is unmatched. I'm planning to move forward in sets of 3 for now so that you at least save on shipping over 1 deck at a time. Maybe a quarterly kickstarter campaign for the next 3 decks in the series.Outsider wrote:Another thought I've been mulling over is that no small part of what attracted me to this campaign is that it's not only good looking cards, but Vol I especially was a bargain. Also, I've been working more on the Eye deck and experimenting with moving towards a more standard look:
