The Hydrogen Deck / Live KS
I'm liking the subtle modifications and recolors on the courts and the thorough Hydrogen atom theme carrying through the AoS and the jokers. Very usable for magic I think! Solid yes for me.

Does deck no.15 in this series glow in the dark?
I actually like the tuck design and the overall little details, (like the 2 of Hearts reveal on the Queen, which is clever made) which are sprinkled through the deck. But 2 nice jokers (I really dig them) and some details don't really do it for me these days anymore. The back design is a huge downer for me. Can't really put it into words, but I don't like it at all. For the tuckbox I would definetly prefer a more sturdy matt cardboard (like the A1 Dot or 6006), either white or off-white for a vintage school lab look and not a glossy standard tuck.

Agreed! To me, it gives it a ‘Supreme’ feel to it, which I hatevedus wrote:Text additions on the courts are jarring. They don't fit.

"Hydrogen" being plastered everywhere is annoying, otherwise, it's not the worst deck.

I assume you main gripe with the back design is the repeating "H's". It went through many iterations before it got where it is. I knew when designing it I wanted to pay tribute to the fact that hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe, so I wanted it represented all over the back. I tried different ways to represent the element, and ultimately decided to go with the element symbol repeating as a covalent bond. The different weights of the typeface were used to help give a level of depth and movement to the design. It looks quite nice in motion for different flourishes such as under pressure.
As for the tuck box I 100% agree, I would love a more matte cardboard stock. The black would look so much better on it as would the blind embossing. The matte tuck case is currently one of the stretch goals.
Thanks for your input

I neither hate nor love Supreme, but I respect how they use of a simple logo help to build a brand that many try to mimic.shiroo56 wrote:Or Helly Hansen (HH) for that mattershermjack wrote:Agreed! I was very conscience of Helly Hansen's logo, and was sure not to make the type ultra thick. I think the dots representing the covalent bond between the letters also helped.
Overall the idea was to subtly incorporate the different design elements used on the deck into the court cards. I agree with some, it stands out more that others, but I didn't want it to become completely lost either, or else, whats the point right? I still have mixed feelings with how ANYONE treated the text in their Dan & Dave collaboration. But, to each their own.

Re: The Hydrogen Deck / Live KS
Using the periodic table a series does open up a lot of possibilities. I have thought about the same thing — making a radioactive element with glow in the dark ink could be really awesome. Or maybe ink that is sensitive to UV light? Anyone know if its been done before?MagikFingerz wrote:No. 92 does, AND it comes in a lead collector's boxshiroo56 wrote:Does deck no.15 in this series glow in the dark?

I believe Gio over at Thirdway Industries has done a few decks that have some special blacklight features. I think the Lunatica set has it? Very fun deck and on my wishlist, though I'm sure many folks here can confirm or correct my guess.
That would be a cool direction to go with your element series, to highlight some of the more popular elements, rather than a run at all of them.

Re: The Hydrogen Deck / Live KS
I think the periodic concept is great, but you might want to pick out a handful of iconic or unusual elements you can play with. The next planned deck which is H2O, I'm afraid it won't gather so much attention since water has been done many times over in cards...

The plan was always to highlight the more popular elements in the series, I think it would be so boring to go in order. Especially with what the plan is with the tuck cases. I'd like them to be somewhat interactive with one another.

Re: The Hydrogen Deck / Live KS
I may have been misunderstood, the next element I have planed is oxygen, not water. I chose oxygen to help show off the versatility of the tuck cases. When two hydrogen tuck cases are placed next to an oxygen tuck case it represents the molecule water.Decknowledgy wrote:I think the periodic concept is great, but you might want to pick out a handful of iconic or unusual elements you can play with. Lunatica (and also Monolith) use Neon Pantone Ink, who reflects blacklight. Lunatica has neon ink both on Solstice/Equinox tucks and the cards.BaconWise wrote:I believe Gio over at Thirdway Industries has done a few decks that have some special blacklight features. Actually, Tragic Royalty has been around since 2008, if not earlier. Not sure because that was before I began collecting.shiroo56 wrote: Bicycle released the "Tragic Royalty" deck last year with special glow in the dark inks.
