Re: The Parlour Playing Cards (TGW) -- LIVE on KS
We deliberated on this for quite a while. Here are some of the truths we arrived at. Again open to change. And we of course love feedback.
1) the deck exclusivity will be reflected in the price. It won’t be a cost-prohibitive— we’ve been reasonable on pricing thus far and that won’t change. However this is an expensive deck to produce. And it will be priced accordingly. This will naturally eliminate a good number of backers who just aren’t interested in this kind of deck or who will find it out of a price range they want to spend.
2) currently 300 brick backers roughly. Which is an astonishing number. Brick backers will get the option to add-on the LTD deck at a discounted price. This a) will incentivize non brick backers to upgrade and b) maintain the feeling of high value already present within the tier. We are being very liberal in accounting for 150 additional brick backers. 450 total. That leaves 327.
3) we will introduce some collectors tiers that include the trio PLUS the LTD deck. There will be no way to buy the LTD deck on its own. There will be a minimum backing amount in the form of this collectors tier. This will also limit the number of folks who disingenuously create/use duplicate accounts just to buy limited decks. At the elevate entry price point this too will reduce the backers.
At the end of the day we anticipate 777 to be about right although this campaign has surprised me beyond words.
We didn’t discuss day one backers having “first dibs”. Not sure how that’s even handled logistically. If someone can explain that’d be great. How did Asad do it? I have the foil frost and I don’t remember. Lol

My main issue is not wanting to lose my early bird discount due to having to change tiers to a new 4 deck tier in order to get one of each.

Re: The Parlour Playing Cards (TGW) -- LIVE on KS
Thanks Omar - that is helpful to know. As regards your question, Asad did have a specific Day One tier and the limited deck was first offered to those Day One backers. Now, your campaign did not have one but surely KS should allow you to determine who pledged in, say, the first 24 hours of the campaign. Or the other option would be to first offer it to your EB backers.
As for the logistics, I hear what you are saying but, not least because how successful your campaign was and continues to be, I think you would be surprised as to how many backers would opt for that collector tier so you may run out of the LE easier than you think. Just a food for thought.
Oh - and congratulations again on a very well run campaign. You and Lorenzo should be very proud.

Ooof... $70 in Randy's campaign, $54 in Jody's, and $2XX in this one, all within 3 days, if I upgrade... Yep, I'm leaning towards upgrading to a deck and adding a red, blue, black, and a LTD... I think I'm gonna. I need to think this through

Re: The Parlour Playing Cards (TGW) -- LIVE on KS
I'm not a big fan of LE to begin with. That being said, what you propose might work to avoid frustration. Not 100% sure though...
One alternative might be doing like Lotrek for the Silver player Arabesque: taking every order from the KS backers, and that's it. That amount of decks will be produced, no more. It worked quite well, I think.
I get the symbology behind 777, but it might get in the way of the perfect bliss people seem to experience until now...

So obviously I'm the odd one out here But I backed for a single blue deck and added on a black... and of course I want the LTD deck as well Am I out of luck, aside from the set-of-four reward?TheGentlemanWake wrote:Brick backers will get the option to add-on the LTD deck at a discounted price... we will introduce some collectors tiers that include the trio PLUS the LTD deck. Re: The Parlour Playing Cards (TGW) -- LIVE on KS
As a day 1 backer I am against giving day 1 backers first dibs because this discourages people from buying more decks. I think brick backers should have first dibs to add on the LTD deck, but say one were to purchase 2 bricks, would they be able to add on 2 LTD decks? The problem is that if we limit it to one a person regardless of how many bricks they bought, one could always create a second account and redistribute their brick purchases.
Furthermore, if the collector's tier is less expensive than a brick, then as a hypothetical backer who wanted 2 bricks to begin with, he/she may end up dropping the second brick and creating a new account for the cheaper collector's tier.
I can't seem to think of a solution to circumvent this dilemma so perhaps the most appropriate solution would be to allow a LTD per brick?
As for hsbc's situation, I don't think there will be 777 bricks purchased, so perhaps having the LTD for a higher price for those who don't want an entire brick, although that would be tricky because it can't be too low so that everyone wants it and it can't be too high where it would just be more worth it to buy a brick.

I think your plan is solid and well thought out (as much as can be on a Kickstarter campaign). I will be in for a Ltd deck.

Is the limited deck going to be any different from the regular decks in terms of cards? Also, any hint on what colour it's going to take?

Re: The Parlour Playing Cards (TGW) -- LIVE on KS
+1 for this. Allows you to know for sure who wants one and commit to that number. Any excess can then be sold to brick backers on a 1st come 1st served basis. I believe Asad did something like that for the excess frost mints by giving the bricks orders the priority to order.Kurama wrote:I'm not a big fan of LE to begin with. This was going to be my first question as well so I'm glad you're taking it into consideration. But it also brings me to my two cents:TheGentlemanWake wrote:Don’t worry. I understand that you would want to reward all the brick backers because they have spent the most money and thus are supporting your project more than someone like me for example who is in for just one of each deck. You wouldn't be the first creator to reward these tiers and you won't be the last- I see it all the time and I think it's a worthy reward. 12 decks is a lot! But just because someone doesn't back 12 decks doesn't mean they shouldn't have an equal chance to own the LTD deck, does it? Custom brick boxes, stickers, coins, extra gaff cards, etc. I understand that incentivizing people to spend more is your prerogative. But I would hope that just because I only back 1 of each kind of deck for 95% of my KS pledges doesn't mean I'll miss an opportunity to own the LTD deck.
SUGGESTION 1: Someone else said it too but make the number of LTD decks limited to however many people pledge for one, limit it to one per backer (nothing you can do about multiple accounts) and if you want only offer it for 24 hours or something like that.
SUGGESTION 2: If you're stuck on the 777 number then offer them up in two batches (again, only 1 per backer) at predetermined times (to accommodate people in different time zones) which would randomize who gets to own one.
SUGGESTION 3: Keep the format that you suggested so long as everyone who wants one has a chance to pledge for it.

Man I hope we aren’t underestimating the demand. I can’t believe I just wrote that sentence. Lol. This is crazy! I’m still beaming with gratitude.
We will stagger the slots. We are tentatively setting aside 400 brick box LTDs half released in 12 hour intervals.
The rest will be allotted to collectors sets.

This seems like a good compromise between the two schools of thought: LTD based on $ spent vs LTD based on speed of purchaseTheGentlemanWake wrote:Man I hope we aren’t underestimating the demand. I can’t believe I just wrote that sentence. Lol. This is crazy! I’m still beaming with gratitude.

Re: The Parlour Playing Cards (TGW) -- LIVE on KS
There were only 250 of the Gatekeeper decks and they didn't sell out super fast. There were only 730 of the Silk decks produced in total and there are still a few left. Only 200 of the Burlwood Box sets by Alex Chen in his last campaign (I seem to recall those did sell out in a flash). While this campaign has way surpassed what I thought it would do for a semi-custom deck, I still think that if limited to 777 decks, they shouldn't sell out super fast. I guess though it comes down to price and quality. Which, to be honest, TGW and Lorenzo have been hitting it out of the park all day long on this campaign. In which case, suggest we keep close tabs and click fast. It is always best to be safe.
Of course, letting all that want the limited decks for a period of time is always nice too, or another option is to open it for a period of time and if not all of the expected number are sold, then open it until sold out or the campaign ends. If you want to still print the full number and sell later, I am cool with that too. I think though the real reason for the limit is the labor involved in the limited decks and they don't want to end up having to spend a year or two just making thousands of these limited decks.
Also, I think that the limited decks should be open to all on the campaign with another regular order rather than limited only to brick backers and/or those in EB tiers. Everybody should be given a fair chance to get a limited deck. Not everyone can back a brick financially or even due to space at home, but may really want a limited deck for a smaller collection.
Anyway, I am not worried, I'll fire up my four Kickstarter accounts if need be to siphon off what I need.
