Good idea. Some good elements in the design.
But
Standard courts, all decks are just a color change. Passing hard.

True and a bit of a shame, but I have a friend who would freaking love these; going to be her wedding gift, assuming they all get funded.Räpylätassu wrote:[...] Standard courts, all decks are just a color change. Passing hard.

Re: COMPOSERS" Playing Cards - Ludwig Van Beethoven [1 of 7]
Pity they couldn’t have turned each of the composers (+ 5 more) into a custom court card. Then you’d have one great deck instead of 7... mediocre ones. Easier said than done though :/

Re: COMPOSERS" Playing Cards - Ludwig Van Beethoven [1 of 7]
The backs and pips are not bad at all really, but this has exactly nothing to do with any composer at all and in reality is a series of seven cheap recolor jobs. This would be a nice deck to pick up at the drugstore for $5 if it were printed by USPCC. But printed by NPCC, it's just junk.

If this was one deck with different composers as the courts, I think I'd be probably be in.dawn wrote:Pity they couldn’t have turned each of the composers (+ 5 more) into a custom court card. Then you’d have one great deck instead of 7... mediocre ones. Easier said than done though :/

Re: COMPOSERS" Playing Cards - Ludwig Van Beethoven [1 of 7]
Thanks for the post @badpete69, was just about to do one myself for this project.
I think it should be noted it's not as easy as it sounds getting printing done by Bicycle, and NPCC cards are not-junk, some amazing cards have been produced over there in Ukraine, e.g. those from Nicolai Aaroe, e.g. Indictus and many others.
For up and coming artists and producers, Minimum order quantities of 1,100 decks by USPCC can be very risky and very-expensive, NPCC have a Minimum of 500, this actually makes a huge difference and lets producers get into a crowded and highly competitive market such as Playing Cards and gives them a chance to create their dream deck(s).

Re: COMPOSERS" Playing Cards - Ludwig Van Beethoven [1 of 7]
I own most of Nicolai's decks despite being printed by NPCC, I've even paid a premium to purchase the out of print decks that now sell for quite a bit. They're "art decks" that are worth owning for the sake of looking at, and to be fair to NPCC the tucks look great and the printing quality is fine too.Buyworthy wrote:NPCC cards are not-junk, some amazing cards have been produced over there in Ukraine, e.g. those from Nicolai Aaroe, e.g. Indictus and many others.
But I think most would agree with me that NPCC card stock is second tier at best when it comes to handling. Your deck has standard courts and is therefore one I would treat as a deck to open and handle until it's worn out and would rather be printed by USPCC or Cartamundi, or at least LPCC/EPCC, rather than to simply own and think about what a wonderful thing it is and not care about the printer.
Your deck isn't bad looking for what it is, but it's no Nicolai. No offense meant. Art of that quality is what it takes to convince me to buy NPCC. If, as other have suggested, we were looking at full custom courts with portraits of well loved composers, I would probably not bother griping about NPCC at all and might even be a backer.

Appreciate he honest feedback, but I must say, "this is not my deck or project".
But... re: Bicycle cards (USPCC) finishes etc, yes they are the world leader, if it's a finish you're after, then they have a lot of history and experience behind them. NPCC nowhere near as much, but they're a great team over there and do work hard, especially in areas such as tuck box customisation etc.

Re: COMPOSERS" Playing Cards - Ludwig Van Beethoven [1 of 7]
Well since there is a theme going on I'm ok with this. Happy to get a Bach as my favorite classical musician, but keen on Brahms' purple-goldish color scheme. But to get there, there's no other option than to get this backed first.

If this was a full set with a wood box or carat case, I would be in.

Standard courts do not bother me in the slightest. But as soon as I see NPCC I'm out.

Re: COMPOSERS" Playing Cards - Ludwig Van Beethoven [1 of 7]
Composers just reached over 100% funding - Thanks everyone who help and backed the project.
I know he spent many painstaking hours considering the design and working out what suited this theme and the composers themselves.
The choice of standard styled courts, the choice of printer (being in Europe) which he has gained experience with his previous projects, the selection of custom and luxury tuck and outer case finishes and the extra accessories.
I'm Looking forward to seeing this project get to print and onward to the next 6 in the series - Thanks again to the supporters from UC.

The recoloring is different on the "shoulders" making them one way too. Pass.Räpylätassu wrote:Good idea. Some good elements in the design.

Move on, nothing to see here.
