Askja Med Tvennum Spillum

Unread post by Räpylätassu »

I found this deck on the amazing playing card site that Eric Lee provided. It's an Icelandic custom deck from 1997, printed by Cartamundi. The court cards feature old Norse gods. The deck was designed by Brian Pilkington.

I dream of a world where wars are fought only by having dance offs. I also dream that a Finnish playing card designer would exist. The former seems more likely to happend.

Maybe someone who speaks Icelandic better than me will correct me, but "Askja Med Tvennum Spillum" seems to me to mean "box with two decks" ... so maybe you get two decks. Or maybe not.

Also I note that both of those Icelandic decks just linked are listed on that site as "reprints".

I wouldn't read that much into it, the Icelandair decks are also listed as "reprints" although they are a continuous print. It might be that this deck was printed several times...? I wasn't able to find much information on it online.
