Jedi of the Old Republic - Live KS
Hi all, thought I would share this project here. The creator has had a previous successful project (The Dark Lords of the Sith, http://kck.st/2K29HJY) but I couldn't find any posts about it.
Personally, I like the theme and that the creator has done custom art for every card, but the rest seems a bit underdeveloped. The printer (PrinterStudio.com) and tuckbox weren't added until I PM'd him.
What are your thoughts?

sinjin and magistrate probably have a more nuanced opinion, but you can't copyright a single world like "Jedi" and "Old Republic" is a common term.
Now, if the deck was called Knights of the Old Republic, you might have Bioware and Disney dogpiling you.
Also, I think EA and Disney have done something with the licensing, where a lot of the old Extended Universe stuff is now "Legends" and not canon, so I don't know if they mean to relegate that to the public domain or what. I would think Bioware still holds license to the logos and stuff used, though. The problem is that he's specifically naming characters and stuff, and I believe Bioware owns those since they created them.
I like the theme, but I don't like they way it is executed in this deck, or his previous sith deck. So, it's a solid pass for me, regardless of legality.

I'm not sold on the "look" of the deck with a character on every single card. I"m passing on this one.

So, there's this: http://ventionbooks.com/blog/jedi-term-trademarked
BTW, I'm not a lawyer (although, as a writer, I'm very interested in IP law), but yes, you can trademark a single word. Just ask Kodak. Or, read this: https://secureyourtrademark.com/can-you ... e-up-word/

Ah okay, so it does have to be a made-up word in order to trademark.
For some reason I was thinking that Lucas got the word Jedi from Hebrew or something.

It doesn’t have to be made-up word. Yes, George Lucas repurposed several Jewish words, including Yoda (to know). Heck, so did the US government with NASA, which means “to lift up”.

These are the 2nd most disgraceful thing ever to Star Wars.
#1 is The Last Jedi.
