Kickstarter Black List

Unread post by akicer »

Want to create a list of creators on KS that bakers should think twice before put their money in.

(I failed to find a thread so I created a new one, MOD please feel free to merge if there's already a topic on this)

Guys please help build this out, it will be helpful for all the backers including ourselves

1. Natalia Silva (no updates since 2018/10/31)
2. Cellar Window (no updates since 2018/02/24)
3. Ember Waves (no updates since 2017/09/21)
4. Hector Roberto Perez Bejarano (no updates since 2018/10/23)
5. SVI GROUP (simply the worst)
6. Bill Davis Magic (looks like another SVI, not as bad though)
7. Nemesis Factory Cards (switch printer without notice in campaign, no refund even he promised he will)
8. Giacomo Rivano (KS name: glitchcarD/Tenchu's Factory)
9. Skymember Presents (aka Origins, follow thread starting here: viewtopic.php?p=220616#p220616)
10. VXD (no updates since December 2022) -- follow-up: co-founder of VXD is deceased, so that's that.
11. Doc's Playing Cards
12. Marvelous Decks

1. Natalia Silva

No response and update in couple of her recent projects. Almost surely the projects are pure scam

Well this one is quite old, but not delivering the last 4-5 projects as well. Don't think he will show up again but just put the name here

I've currently got concerns about Hector Roberto Perez Bejarano.

This project: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/15 ... ed-edition" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Last updated October with a statement that printing would start in December and they'd update at that time. It's nearly the end of February with no update even though the creator logs in almost daily. They were last logged in as recently as yesterday.

Don't know if they'll ever come through on this project or if they'll create another, but at this point I wouldn't back another due to the disappearing act and lack of communication.

4. Joker and the thief (jtplayingcards)

They are actually okay until the recent debacle. They replaced the "limited letterpress collector's box" with a cheap cotton bag, without notifying anyone until the backers receive the item. Their responses are also disappointing.

I have added the creator to the list above (assuming potential scam), thanks for sharing

Cellar windows Fuego and Don Quixote v1 decks were actually delivered I own them both in fact... also as far as the red enigma deck from hector I backed his previous black version and I was eventually delivered after much delay so don’t give up hope!

I have also been screwed by backing recent cellar window and Natalia decks though. I would agree to avoid all these creators until they deliver on outstanding decks. The exception being JT where I would advise only backing at basic deck levels because they do produce nice decks and have only had issues with promises for special edition tiers.

We should be careful about calling out creators just for delays, no matter how long. Reserve a blacklist for undelivered decks, bait-and-switches, things like that

Agreed, but how long is it from "delayed" to "undelivered?" Technically speaking Natalia's unfulfilled projects are "delayed," for example, because she announced a few months ago that she still intends to fulfill the project. Is being a year past the original anticipated fulfillment date enough to cross the line? We used to keep a "wall of Shame" to track these kinds of delays that ventured into the land of "not likely to be fulfilled," but then there's folks like Lotrek to cross that line, but nobody (so far) is apt to say he's failed to fulfill a project. Then, there's the Asylum project which *did* appear to be dead and gone but then managed to get fulfilled (the playing cards, anyway) after three years or so. And Mana, likewise.

I'm not criticizing; I'm posing a genuine conundrum. Should project creators you put on your list be flagged as "unresponsive after XXX months?" Or, "last seen in the month of XXX, year XXXX?"

There's also another person I'd put on the list not so much because she owes me decks (although, she does) but moreso because she sabotaged the playing card design company that she participated in with her then-husband, ruining her credibility and tanking the company in the process. Do we warn people away from her, as well? (Again, not a rhetorical question.)

This was actually a really good idea, akicer.

I think we, as a community, have to make sure that the list remains close-to-unanimous. I think rousselle poses some important questions. Right now I don't disagree with any of the names up there.

I think so.We can always post on what they do, and let people decide whether they wanna keep supporting them. More details?

For something like this to be taken seriously and not make us into some sort of Playing Card Project YELP'ers, I would like to see it being as purely objective and factual as possible. Those "suggestions" doesn't seem necessary for each project, people should always "think twice" and are perfectly able to make up their own mind after reading this.

6. SVI GROUP

Oh how can I forgot about our dear SVI group! (UC member Wanderer, and potentially lots other IDs)

What they have done is horrible. They are insulting collectors in all different ways they can.

Check out this thread :http://unitedcardists.com/viewtopic.php ... 431039b29c
And this one: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=11177
And this one (they created couple account and talk to each other??? ): viewtopic.php?f=8&t=9627

Personal comments:

They do not deserve to be in the playing cards world, or even anywhere. Whatever they created, I won't waste a penny on it.

I formally nominate "Bill Davis Magic" to the Black List.

Jerks off Daniel Madison. No integrity. Flames our fantastic community. Warned about being banned. Topic locked. About as close to SVI Group as you can get.

I hesitate on putting Bill Davis Magic on this list. I really prefer to leave it mainly for those that don't deliver their rewards or magically transform them into ... well cloth bags. You do have a case in regards to SVI, so we have made such exceptions in the past.

So... If Quebec declared war on the USA, would you also hesitate putting them on a list of the United States to avoid supporting..?

He has literally smeared this entire community and deserves NO support from any of us. Strength in numbers.

I personally agree that Bill should be added to the list because of his ego, arrogance, ignorance and rudeness to people who's giving suggestions to him. Though I doubt he will get better at designing anyway (and thus it's unlikely he will get much support from this forum anyway), I do think he deserves a slot here. I will simply add the link to that thread here, and let every potential buyers judge by themselves if they want to support this guy

Re: Kickstarter Black List

I submit Nemesis Factory/Claude for the blacklist. The saga is well documented here for the Enuma Elish deck - switched printers without notice, failed to issue refunds, and at this point, apparently also failed to deliver cards to anyone who had the nerve to demand a refund (in addition to not refunding their money, making it a straight ripoff).

Switching printers is bad, but potentially a rookie mistake. Refusing refunds is shitty; not mailing paid-for cards to those who dared ask for one is thievery. I didn't get burned, but just seeing the thread here I wouldn't do business with this guy if he were selling ice water in hell.

EDIT: These decks are now being sold on the aftermarket, so what excuse does Claude have for delivering neither refund nor cards to the people who gave him their money to make his payday come true? Claude, you are a slimeball thief. You may not have stolen from me, but I don't watch someone rob others and turn a blind eye. The fact that you spitefully steal from those who confronted you makes it a dozen times worse in my opinion than if you were just some pathetic con artist.
