As much as I like foil, I think it looks a tad out of place here.

Re: Invocation - By Kings Wild Project - Kickstarter
When using cold foil there are only Silver and Gold (or holographic silver or gold) that can be used as a base. I CAN, however, print CMYK or spot colors on the top of the base foil but the moment you print color on top it really "dulls" the impact and reflectiveness of the foil.

Montenzi printed over the cold foil for his NEO:Wave Ultra version, and it came out great. I didn’t notice any dullness. If you don’t have his deck, I could send you one. That deck is hands down the best use of cold foil on playing cards to date.
The monochromatic/bichromatic look is just not getting me excited to be honest.

I will through around some ideas I have to bring in some color.

Re: Invocation - By Kings Wild Project - Kickstarter
Gold foil on all corners is just too much for me. Perhaps just 2 corners? Probably the corners with the indices. I also agree with Brad . You could look into putting the colours on the courts like you did with the Aces. That really makes the Aces stand out more and not get lost in all the lovely detail work. Not too much, but just enough colour to make the courts stand out as well.

Hmmm not feeling the pinks. Something about it is causing me to suddenly notice some NSFW imagery hidden in the ace designs, I thought perhaps my mind was just buried deep in the gutter so I showed someone else and they saw it too rofl.

I see alien heads in cards. Now what is it you all are seeing in cards and what does it say about your subconscious? Lol
I am beginning to feel for card designers. I am with you Picard. BTW, I understand there are plans for Patrick Stewart to come back and reprise his role as Picard.

Also, is it just me, or is every thread getting derailed in 2019? I'm not complaining; it's hilarious.

It is probably because we were really spoiled for choice with all those fantastic decks in 2018 and are now getting restless waiting for the next great deck to come out.TwoPiece wrote: Also, is it just me, or is every thread getting derailed in 2019? I'm not complaining; it's hilarious.

I myself really like the new color palette - it feels richer, less stodgily traditional than the bare gold and red - but now I can't unsee this.PipChick wrote:yep; I see it too - just a clittle bit too much pink...CupcakeBaron wrote:Hmmm not feeling the pinks. Re: Invocation - By Kings Wild Project - Kickstarter
JR posted on IG:

Copper Edition anyone?? I wonder if the cards for this deck will also be the same as those JR showed in gold cold-foil or if he's going to print using copper cold-foil to match the theme... JR did mention that only gold & silver can be used as a base and spot color can be applied on top, but that it'd dull the shininess of the foil:
But, after seeing his exploration of color in his last post, I'm not sure anymore of what direction he'll be going in but I'm definitely excited to find out
perhaps more pink...??
lol
side note: I'm not sure I like the inclusion of 'the' in the deck's name... I find 'Invocation' to be strong enough to stand on its own and is more impactful IMHO. Thoughts?

However, in the case of copper, a dulling of the foil might actually work in his favor of achieving the copper look because unlike gold and silver, it isn't really all that shiny anyways...JacksonRobinson wrote:When using cold foil there are only Silver and Gold (or holographic silver or gold) that can be used as a base. Agree with PipChick on name of the deck. "Invocation" alone is sufficient, perhaps will look better in bold rather than the thin font it currently is now.

Re: Invocation - By Kings Wild Project - Kickstarter
What would you rather see for this project?
Option A: Cold Foil on Backs and Faces, on one edition, traditional printing on second Edition, printed by Cartamundi
Option B: Metal Luxx on Backs only, on one edition, traditional printing on second edition, printed by USPCC
Option C: Cold Foil on Backs and Faces of both Editions, printed by EPCC
Give me your thoughts and why if you please.

I second this option. The cold foil from Cartamundi is really spectacular but I like the feel of USPCC cards for cardistry.hsbc wrote:Cartamundi cold foil for sure. Between USPCC and Cartamundi, could you use one for one edition, and another for the other? (see Rising Spade)

Re: Invocation - By Kings Wild Project - Kickstarter
I shall be fine with either option A or option C as I am not a great fan of Metalluxe. I would naturally prefer Cartamundi over EPCC but, to the extent feasible, a Cartamundi/USPCC combo would be ideal.

Re: Invocation - By Kings Wild Project - Kickstarter
Carta Mundi's finish and cold foil is awesome, but their stock is too soft and may prove to be not so durable in the long run. If the back design is going to be multi-colored, then I would go with Option A. But if the backs are going to be monochrome, then absolutely Option B with USPCC MetalLuxe. I wouldn't even consider EPCC. I feel at the end of the day, the true tipping point for most will be cost, so in that sense Carta Mundi may be the way to go.

Re: Invocation - By Kings Wild Project - Kickstarter
I have examples of Cartamundi's cold foil and USPCC's Metalluxe, but I'm not familiar with EPCC's cold foil. Are there any decks out there that feature this? If so, I'd like to compare that/those to the other decks I have to make an informed decision.
That said, while I'm fine with any option -- as long as EPCC is using their Taiwan manufacturer and not the one in China -- if you're going to have a deck without foil, can you at least do metallic inks on the non-foiled one?

The registration and the contrast that comes from the cold foil of Cartamundi I’ve seen so far is impressive. Especially when it’s used like Lorenzo did w/ HotRS or with any fine line details which I think you have here. I think there is still a lot of untapped technical potential for even more impressive visuals w/ cold foil over hot stamp.
