[SMocito] My decks

Unread post by Smocito »

Today was a very good day :D
Grande.jpg
Apart from the Medieval decks that came from Kickstarter, all decks were bought from:
https://www.naipeszaca.com/en/

The book on the left was bought directly from the author (Fernanda Frazão), in Portugal, and it's written in Portuguese

We had several wars with Spain, we even shared kings. We once divided the world in half with Spain, everything discovered on one side of a line was ours and everything on the other side was theirs.

I check Naipes Zaca from time to time, as you can dig up some nice finds there, including old Grimauds. Which you appear to have, the Jules Verne and Jeu Louis XV, the later being one of my favorite Grimauds.

That Civil War Illuminated Poker Deck is also pretty damn sweet, my dad bought me one from the States a few years ago. Nice decks! :D

I dream of a world where wars are fought only by having dance offs. I also dream that a Finnish playing card designer would exist. The former seems more likely to happend.

I've discovered that Jeu Louis XV after your post here. Thank you.

They have some decks that I haven't seen anywhere else.

I haven't opened all the decks yet.

Damn son... Pretty nice. Besides the cards I love the knots display as well. I don't see a KWP Old Ironside though :D . Must have for every sailor, imo.

I've bought many decks since the last time I've posted here, I don't update this thread regularly but I received this Tchaikovsky deck yesterday.
Its not an outstanding deck. it's a nice enough deck and I've been doing this Composers collection. I don't think it will be finished anytime soon but I hope one day it will be.
(It spent over a month in customs, they love playing cards there, sometimes I think they spend most of the time playing with them)

The Branle deck is in this photo because it was also produced by NPCC. I think it's one of the most beautiful decks I have. I've gotten it in the first couple of months after starting collecting playing cards and just before it sold out. There are other versions of it some of them pretty expensive but I only have this version.

I've never met Roman, I bought several cards made by NPCC but I think I've never spoken with him.
I hope he and all his loved ones are safe and healthy and I hope this war ends as quickly as possible.

Here is something I've bought a long time ago.
More recent collectors may not even know these decks exist and they are missing some great decks.

Origins, Shadows of History and Rouen 1567 by Rick Davidson.

I hope Rick hasn't retired from designing playing cards. I think his last decks were the Abandoned for Dynamo.

This is one of my favorite displays I've seen. I'm hoping when I get my own space, that I can do something similar. What was your process like regarding conceptualization to realization?

Thank you.

It was an inconscient process.

I had a blank wall, several uncut sheets and the knots that I wanted to display. When I saw those shelves I thought they would allow me to place the two rows on each shelf.
I always thought that two rows, with one row of inclined decks and a second row of decks on top of those, would be a great way to display my collection because it would allow all deck faces to be visible.

I procrastinated for a while (the "there's no need to be reminding him every six months" part) and that setup just came to my mind. Probably because the knots board has a different shape than the uncut sheets and kind of forced me to do it like this.

It really is.
On my display, on the left of the Ultimate uncut sheet, I have the Shadows of History uncut sheet :)

You can start your search here (I think he ships from New Zealand but you should confirm that):
https://originscards.com/

You should check some of his other decks: the DeNovo (United Cardists 2018 deck), the Luxx, the Abandoned, and the Cobra.

Not all decks on the site below were designed by Rick Davidson

Origin Shadows is available here: https://www.playingcards.net/Shadows-of ... _2807.html

I picked up one of each of the Origins (there was one grail left luck would have it) from originscards earlier today along with the Rouen - also grabbed a pair of DeNovo’s

Still missing the Shadows Black Label, and of course the limited DeNovo’s but pretty grateful you brought the lot to my attention - didn’t know what I was missing :)
