These sucks? wtf? Just, because its not for you (for gameplay) it doesn't mean the deck sucks.

The deck is great and the reason why its an alphabet deck instead of poker one. Its not one of the Elite series like the others and this deck is for magicians and mentalist only... not for gameplay.

"Playing cards" that I can't play with, by default, suck. I'm sorry that this logic has eluded you.

In the comments on TheGentlemanWake's latest video, he asked for viewers best deck of the year. I believe that DMC Elite's so far have more votes than House of the Rising Spades :o , so there are more than a few that disagree with you. Just say'n.

These are not DMC Elites, Brad.

Got it. Still surprised by how many considered it the best deck of the year. Probably the most votes were for Chris Ramsey’s 1st deck. Everyone is entitled to an opinion I guess.

I think they sell something similar at the educational supply shop for $3. I enjoy alphabet decks and the DMC Elites are great cards, but damn. $20+ shipping for a deck that shows off a standard looking font. Thats a big pass from me.

The DMC Elites are fine decks. I don't have Ramsay's 1st Deck, but it looks nice. Neither are a fifth as nice as THotRS, though. Baffling.

DMC Alphas aren't actually playing cards... so its obvious that you can't play with them.

You can't say that this deck sucks, because you can't play with them when they weren't mean to for gameplay. Logic.

okay guys, let's not derail this thread into a debate what is and isn't a deck of playing cards again... we already agreed to disagree before and I'm sure the argument wouldn't yield any difference in such strongly held opinions anyways...

But to bring it back to these cards specifically; I would say that although a deck like this doesn't appeal to me and my taste preferences in collecting and/or use of cards for gameplay in particular, it definitely has its place and purpose for the needs of another person and I'm sure it appeals to them.

I'm actually really glad to see decks like this out there and being produced; it offers something different to a very particular group of consumers and is quite well done for what it is and what it's designed to do.

with that said, the price however is pretty steep, IMHO... :?

The price is higher as usual for several reasons.

1. This time the deck is printed by USPCC instead of Cartamundi which means it should cost more to produce. DMC has to sent his decks to UK (higher shipping cost) and pay customs taxes unlike Cartamundi (Belgium).

2. All these trick decks for mentalism/magicians cost more than they should. Although they are not really special. The reason is simple. Its, because there aren't many people out there who would buy them.

Great examples are the gaff bicycle decks, ESP for mentalism etc.

3. There's free "Passport" which is a mini-book where's is explained what effects/magic can you do with the actual deck. So what you are paying for is a magic trick inc. gimmick (deck).

I actually got a couple for my collection. Just something different. I agree it is a bit expensive, but an interesting change for my collection.

all very good points; also, I apparently hadn't realized it came with a mini-book - cool and definitely helps justify the price, even just a tinsey-tiny bit :)

I knew this was going to be part of a retort, so I had this response cocked and loaded:

They're being advertised as "playing cards" and "the evolution of playing cards". If they're not playing cards, then don't advertise them as such. That's the primary problem. They also give the appearance of their own playing cards. It's a marketing tactic to get more buyers in the hopes that those not 'in-the-know' will have a small return rate when they discover they're not actually playing cards.

Therefor, it's not "obvious that you can't play with them". You have to expect that they're not playing cards for such to be "obvious". Instead, you have to gloss over the obvious, and read the small print to understand what these actually are. It's bad business.

Whether they advertise the deck as playing cards (they mentioned this just once) or not doesn't matter.

What matters is that Alphas are not playing cards and I can see that you know that as well (and that matters) so what you wrote doesn't have to do anything what I said before. You just described that their marketing sucks and business.

Nvm I tried.

It does matter. Fly-by consumers will purchase this deck thinking that it is a deck of playing cards. Advertising this deck as "playing cards" is not being transparent. It is, at best, translucent.

Yes, I know that the DMC Alphas are not playing cards, but not everyone does and will. What I wrote is 100% relevant. Their marketing/business claims that these are playing cards. As a deck of playing cards, these suck.

As a deck of whatever this even is - I don't know. To me, it's just more poop.
