Re: The Gentleman Wake presents The Parlour by Stockholm 17
If I could ask a question. I don't want to derail this thread or overshadow the great deck GW and Lorenzo are putting together.
What is the difference between cold foil and metaluxe? They look very similar. I am assuming it may lie in the application process?

Re: The Gentleman Wake presents The Parlour by Stockholm 17
I don't know the full process differences, so I am probably not the best person. MetalLuxe is hot stamped "similar" to what Lotrek does, although not nearly as accurately as Lotrek. It has been how I think most foil has been applied for playing cards and tucks. The process Cartamudi uses is cold foil. I think the foil is applied or even printed onto the cards similar to other colors. Whatever the process, it has a consistency and and accuracy not easily achieved by hot stamping the foil on the cards. I understand from Lotrek that the cold foil does not have the same high refraction achieved in hot stamping the foil on the cards.
Personally, I have really been pleased with the results of the cold foil decks I have from Cartamundi. I am also not sure how it is done, but in the case of the NEO Ultra decks, the foil process allowed for the color to change across the card, so it did not need to even be a single color.
While the handling of Cartamundi decks are very good, I still think USPCC puts out the best handling decks.
Edit:
I did a bit of google searching and found that Cartamundi uses the Eagle Systems cold foil process. Below is a link to an article about the process. Interesting stuff for a card geek like me.

It mentions how they can apply multiple colors to the foil in the above article.
Also, this process is also available in the US at Cartamundi's Dallas printing facility. I don't know if they do playing cards there though.Customers can have multiple colors of foil because you colorize it on the press while you’re printing.”

Re: The Gentleman Wake presents The Parlour by Stockholm 17
What? the Koh Isn't holding a video camera or deck of cards? 1 court holding a video camera and another doing cardistry is a must! Put stubble and glasses on a king, Poe's makeup on a Jack! Come on man! This is supposed to be the TGW Lorenzo designed deck not a lame Madison recolour deck or T11 halfway magnificent but ultimately letdown deck !
Seriously, though, I totally get the look you want of near standard for magic use, but you can be clever with more subtle details! But Lorenzo may already have done so with the other courts.
And the QoS as the Lady Wake in the "Ring" makeup and holding a cup of coffee! Hey, if not, that would make a great gaffe card!
Original holding a full cup of coffee, the gaffe in Ring make up and holding an empty cup! That'll still make for a great magic trick.

I was thinking having the KOH doing a card flourish or a card reveal would be a good gaff card. Your other ideas are good too.

Re: The Gentleman Wake presents The Parlour by Stockholm 17
All great ideas to be sure. Lorenzo is still working on a few small details for all the courts. But I think the big reason to NOT go to heavy with allusions to the show/channel would be to make sure that any newcomers to the brand wouldn't be confused by having a zombiefied lady wake on a court card. The reality is there will be a large contingent of people who may just stumble across the campaign and back it based on how 'relatively' standard it looks. The details will just be cool items that fit the motiff. Additionally Lorenzo's following will also come aboard. In that way launching a deck can also be strategic, as it increases notoriety of what we're doing over on youtube.

Re: The Gentleman Wake presents The Parlour by Stockholm 17
Probably some/most, whatever percentage of Lorenzo's followers will be on board. Lorenzo's followers/fans are his because he makes sick ass decks with sick ass courts. You will probably have the Ravn contingent for sure.
I'm on the fence so far, like the backs, joker and ace, but it needs to be one heck of a tuck to get me swayed for, for the most part, standard looking courts. Maybe some sweet sweet foil on the cards would do it too. Well, that definitely would lol.

That Rhinoceros Beetle is like seriously my absolute favorite element of the back design and I'm glad to see it's been highlighted with the foil in that rendering - super cool!

Re: The Gentleman Wake presents The Parlour by Stockholm 17
Lol. Yes, exactly like that. That is too good to pass up, at a reasonable price of course. The question will be, could one get the foily back deck without having to get the standard? Or will it be tied into a high tier or as an add on with purchasing the standard decks too?TheGentlemanWake wrote:You mean like this? (Mock up of course)

love it! Besides the back, do the beetles make any other appearances anywhere else in the deck - just curious because they really are my fav and could imagine how interesting a design may look with their shell open and wings expanded - as if ready to take flight! lolTheGentlemanWake wrote:I've taken to calling them the 'beetle backs'

I muuuuuuuch prefer that foiled mockup to the other backs. I'd love if it'd be possible to buy that outright even if it's at a higher cost.

Re: The Gentleman Wake presents The Parlour by Stockholm 17
We haven't made concrete decisions as of yet but we are leaning towards Cartamundi--which lines up with a lot of the feedback here which is great. The foil deck will almost assuredly be a stretch goal. It's just too much money to launch a campaign and we don't want the starting goal to look too high especially since I'm technically a first time project starter (eventhough Lorenzo's on my team and brings his experience launching many decks). Right now it looks like we will start with the wine deck only, add the navy deck as the first stretch goal (Lorenzo thinks this has a good chance--I'm still nervous! LOL), then we will add more features. Including of course the deluxe Gold foil beetle back.
The tuck case will assuredly be matte premium quality with gold foil. We are hoping Lotrek can do those. Similar to the beautiful work he's done with HOTRS and the latest RAVN deck tucks. There is also a card guard in nickel that I love. Here's a proto that Lorenzo had made.
We may have a custom brick box as well in a tier with 4 of each deck (red, blue, gold). But this would be beyond my wildest expectations. Im crossing my fingers.
As far as additional cards, we have the two jokers as seen. An ad card with artwork BUT youtube links for me and s17 and another as yet undecided gaff. Maybe a double backer. maybe something else.

The foiled back and the card guard is giving me HOTRS vibes. I'll be there when you launch. Has been your Youtube subscriber since day one so it's a no-brainer

Don't be nervous. Great backs, Lorenzo's knowledge on running projects, your likes/dislikes in deck design - especially tweaking custom courts, you should be all set. I'll be confident for you and the Beetle backs!TheGentlemanWake wrote:We haven't made concrete decisions as of yet but we are leaning towards Cartamundi--which lines up with a lot of the feedback here which is great. Re: The Gentleman Wake presents The Parlour by Stockholm 17
I am sure plenty will love these courts, they are just not for me. However, I will not let them keep me away from the gold beetle backs!
Please please do not give them an artificially low rarity and jack up the price. If the HotRS Cartomancer deck can cost $21 with a ton of foil and extremely custom courts, so can this. Please don't gate them by placing them in some collection set where you can only get it if you buy some collectors box, a coin and a lock of Shakespeare fur for some crazy price.
Please put the gold beetle back deck in it's own single deck tier. At a maximum as part of the 3 deck set or as an add on to any tier pledge.
Not saying you would do this, but I have seen this on a recent project and it is really irritating.

I am sure that is not his intention. He will want as many as possible to get his deck so he can expand his brand to as many people as possible.
However, if you like this post and comment below on the correct color of my eyes, I might put you in a drawing to receive a free deck (but probably not).

Oh yes, the courts are turning out nice. Magicians will like the reveal. Now I'm curious, what's the significance of the scarab beetle? Your love of Egyptian myth, family background, interest in entymology? It's not a common thing you see on backs.

Hey Eric, it's actually a rhinoceros beetle. More than anything i've just always liked rhino beetles. They are gentle giants. Tough little bugs. I have one preserved in resin in my study.

Still to be some tweaking. But I think these are standard enough to be magic and gameplay friendly. But unique enough to earn the term customized.

Not sure about the front text. Looks comical, not serious. The "For players, collectors, practitioners of magic" seems unneeded for me. I'd make the "twg" the central item, bigger too. Gold wrap around band is nice though.
My opinion only. Not a deal beaker.
