Deck arrived today. I didn't open it yet but by shermjack's list it's:

Astral White with Gold Tuck (King) – Gilded deck with red filter on both sides.

As much as I love Alex's work I wish he put red and blue filters on every deck. Now I'm going to miss out on half the effect until I dig out my 3D glasses from another deck. Gilding a bonus for buying a random deck though.

I reached out to Alex a while back to confirm exactly what was available.

This was his reply:
There are 6 decks. Half gilded half ungilded. The red gilding is fixed to the white/gold/red deck. The blue gilding is on the white/silver/blue deck. The holo is on the black/silver/holo deck. Hope that helps!

Wow, just curious, how much are they selling them for? One Malaysian online store bought the full set and sold them at the single deck price with shipping, so it was a great deal for those who missed it.

Are we sure this is 100% accurate? Specifically, I think the King and Queen decks are reversed. Looking at the website, Alex clearly has the Queen under the White w/ Gold Tuck and the King under the White w/ Silver tuck:



Also, looking at the above image, the piece used in the White/Gold tuck looks like a queen (typically a more pointed version of a crown) chess piece whereas the piece used in the White/Silver tuck looks more like a king chess piece.

This also affects the listings in P52 as they should be switched.

I'd say the picture is correct.

There are a tremendous variety of chess pieces available. I think those were just Alex's design choices.

But I'm interested to hear it from the man himself.

Hmmm, I might be speaking out of turn here, but it looks to me as though Alex has interpreted a set of modern Staunton pieces for his illustrations, which traditionally has 2.5" pawns, 3" rooks and knights, 3.25" bishops, 3.5" queen and a 4.5" king.

Thanks. That was pricey, but then shipping to Aust is higher. Mine was roughly USD48 for gilded, USD34 for regular.

Update: I went past again today. I put the other 4 decks in the series aside and made a layaway of it. Change out of US$300 [total] once the haggling ended.

And shermjack, I'm a bard games nerd on top of being a card nerd. Quite OK to be confused.

My apologies for the error . I do not play chess regularly and I probably got the pieces mixed up...I would assume that the image from Alex's website is correct.

Sherm, nothing to apologize for. It was the little bit of OCD in me that just wanted to make sure we get it right on P52.

Picked up my set yesterday. Reinforces why Alex's decks will be among the first to go should I ever fall on hard times. These are GORGEOUS. Only disappointing thing [which I'm not *that* upset about really] is the hodge-podge numbering to make up the set. But that's the added cost of not buying direct.

I have a set that was purchased at the Convention and the numbers were all over the place too. I actually switched a couple out with ones I bought during the main release that had matching numbers. I am not so sure number matching was so careful this time. The tucks and cards though are amazing. I am glad I picked up some extras to open.

My only gripe as well. Always a backer, yet always with a hodgepodge of numbers in my sets.
