Samedi - voodoo themed playing cards!
Re: Samedi - voodoo themed playing cards!
How do people feel about Expert Playing Card Co vs USPCC?
WIth Expert I can get foil tucks at half the cost of USPCC which makes it MUCH more attainable.

Re: Samedi - voodoo themed playing cards!
EPCC is capable of producing truly excellent cards, but I implore you to insist that they use their Taiwan facility. Even then, you have a choice of finishes and stock, and I know we each have our different preferences, but please avoid their China facility and please avoid their "JN" or "Studs" finish/stock. I personally favor their Classic finish/stock.
Also, you may want to investigate Cartamundi and their cold-foil options.

Re: Samedi - voodoo themed playing cards!
I really loved EPCC for awhile there and then it just dropped for me. They don't feel right. They don't handle right. They don't age quite right. It's not that I hate them, they just drop out of rotation for me very quickly. I've got USPCC generic casino decks that haven't left my desk in months while open EPCC decks don't usually last more than a couple weeks.

Re: Samedi - voodoo themed playing cards!
Probably every single person here knows.more about that question than I do. I am a collector. I don't dabble much in cardistry or magic. Perhaps in the future. So card handling doesn't matter as much to me as aesthetics.
I'm sure it is a balance as a designer. If they aren't visually appealing, there will be some that don't buy. If they don't handle well, there will be some that don't buy.
I would prefer more tuck features than card handling. Again, that is a noob opinion and may change in the future as my knowledge grows.

Re: Samedi - voodoo themed playing cards!
Great points, I’ll consider them!
A further question - go does one estimate worldwide shipping with cards?
Domestic (US) is flat rate. However, the rest of the world varies greatly from several hundred to nearly 1000% of US shipping. Can anyone give me a rough idea of where most of my buyers will come from for this kind of item?

Thanks Chris. The deck looks very promising. A couple of things from my side:CCMadden wrote:Exciting news!

(1) I think that someone already mentioned it in this thread but why is it that the KoS is the same as the back of the cards - it is a tad confusing
(2) in terms of stretch goals, I would make the embossing of the tuck one of the earlier goals. Your deck would look so much better with the embossed tuck
(3) the funding goal seems a tad too high for me. I am sure you have done your calculations and all that but for the first time creator, clearjng over US$13k may be a bit of a challenge.

Re: Samedi - voodoo themed playing cards!
Sorry, one other thing. If part of the reason for the high finding goal is the cost of printing, perhaps it would be worth getting estimates from LPCC/EPCC who should be cheaper.

Re: Samedi - voodoo themed playing cards!
I really like this deck. Really like it. I am sad to see the foil and embossing of the tuck at such a high level.
That purple gilding looks so good! This was a much better choice than gold for this deck. I like gold and silver gilding, but these colored foils just pop!
I hope this makes both stretch goals. They are pretty high though [emoji853]

Also, the KoS and the back are different now. They do appear similar, but the center of the card is different. I think it is great that this designer posted here a while back and has asked for and used input from the community.

Re: Samedi - voodoo themed playing cards!
Super excited to see this deck become reality, my one complaint about it is that I think the tuck would look waaaaaaay better matte. Also I think you should reword your part about the gilded decks in the add-on section. As is it indicates that deck gilding would be an add-on rather than indicating that specifically a gilded deck would be the add-on. For a hot second I wondered how you intended to offer deck gilding on an individual basis as an add-on but then I realized what you meant. Now I'm sure most are cleverer than me and won't be momentarily confused by this but just to save yourself from some confusion it might be worth changing.

Re: Samedi - voodoo themed playing cards!
I see what you mean but, for me, they are not different enough. I know that the deck is called Samedi but I am not sure i would want to put him on the backs - a simple geometrical pattern may look better. Just my two cents.STLBluesNut wrote:Also, the KoS and the back are different now. They do appear similar, but the center of the card is different. I didn't think of this initially, but I agree that matte would be better, especially if foil and embossing get added.CupcakeBaron wrote:Super excited to see this deck become reality, my one complaint about it is that I think the tuck would look waaaaaaay better matte.

Ha, good note on the gilded decks. It made sense to me, but I can see about clarifying it if people have an issue.
Now that you mention it, a matte tuck WOULD look great! I’ve contacted my manufacturer to request a quote on that. Thanks!

I’m sorry the change didn’t solve it for you, but I really do appreciate both the suggestion and the continued feedback.Magic Tapp wrote:I see what you mean but, for me, they are not different enough. Hopefully I can still manage to win you over with the foil and gilded edges!

Re: Samedi - voodoo themed playing cards!
Great news!
After quite a bit of number crunching and changing of some logistics, I’m able to bring down all of my stretch goals and my base funding goal!
I’m also changing the Early Bird tiers to end 24-48hes after the start of he campaign (which is processing now) rather than at a limited number.
Thank you all so much for your help and insight!
I will very likely also be changing the tuck box to matte, it depends on what my manufacturer comes back with.

I'm in for 2. I see the tuck box remains glossy sad panda. I hope this deck reaches it's full potential of embossed and foil tuck box.

Just because they changed some line work between the heads means they used the same design. It's lame and lazy.

Yeah, this happened with another recent launch by another new designer. I assume it's just folks new to the process; no big deal.
Chris, best of success to you with this project! I'm in for some decks and a coin. I like that this project starts off with USPCC as a given, and adds metallic inks and tuck embossing and foil as stretch goals (at very reasonable dollar values, too). That strikes me as a good way to go about things.

Re: SAMEDI playing cards by USPCC - LIVE NOW!
2p - I think that it is specifically the KoS that looks almost identical to the backs and I have pointed that out before. I would not be as harsh as you on this but I agree that there should be more than a subtle difference between one of the court cards and the backs.TwoPiece wrote:If I can't tell the difference at a quick glance, then they're the same.STLBluesNut wrote:They are similar, I will concede that, but they are not the same.TwoPiece wrote:
