Bicycle Rider Back vs Bicycle Standard w/Rider Backs
I asked our resident Bicycle expert this question but he was not sure on the answer. Is there a reason why there are some Bicycle Rider back decks called " Standard" and some other called "Rider Backs". Both have standard faces and rider backs, so why the different tuck. I was about to list on ebay one of those Standard decks and now I am curious to know why the 2 different names. The standard deck I have is dated 2010

I really think it has to do with making the tucks look a little modern, and the name change to appeal to a wider market.
The common playing card player wouldn't even notice that these are not labelled RiderBack.
But someone in a walmart or other retail store and the see "standard" playing cards... standard for playing regular card games.
I'm just guessing, but it makes sense to me
I'll reach out to the Bicycle team and see what they can dig up

Re: Bicycle Rider Back vs Bicycle Standard w/Rider Backs
When I started to do magic I tried to find whats different between Standard and Rider Backs. Some people said that Standard ones are more slippery.
Honestly after trying both of them the Standards feel more slippery than Rider Backs and also the finish on Rider Backs last longer. I notice it especially on fans. I can spread the cards more even as well.
But I might be wrong all these things are actually just a "feel", but some people say the same.

I think the "standard" are mass produced for major retail and printed on the web press. The "rider" are custom ordered and distributed by Murphy's Magic and are printed on the sheet fed press. Some of the rider versions only contain 1 joker to allow extra gaff cards.
