The eternal Ham and Cheese Sandwhich debate
Ham and cheese sandwhich. The classic snack and the biggest divider in human history: Which goes on the bread first; ham or cheese? This thread is opened for debating about this subject.
I personally put the cheese first and the ham on top of that. Anyone doing it the other way around is a heretic in my eyes and should seek for a cure for this inhumane sickness.

Re: The eternal Ham and Cheese Sandwhich debate
When I lived in London and worked at a building in St. Catherine's Dock across the street from the Tower of London. There was a small sandwich shop downstairs I would go to several days a week to have them make me a specific sandwich. A ham and cheese sandwich on toasted wheat bread. After months of this, the guy that made my sandwich said out of curiosity he decided to make one for himself and try it and was surprised that it really was tasty.
BTW, the ham goes on the bottom and the cheese on top. It is called a "Ham and Cheese Sandwich" not a "Cheese and Ham Sandwich". It should be obvious which goes on bottom. Of course, if you made it incorrectly and then flipped it over, I guess I could forgive you the mortal sin. I am glad we are delving into serious topics here. Very controversial subjects to which there is no turning back. The lines are drawn.

You put the cheese on, then throw the ham in the trash, and finally grill the cheese sandwich.

I have to agree that anything without bechamel automatically loses to anything with it. That's just science.

NO, you just played yourself. Ham goes on top, because it's called the Ham and Cheese Sandwhich. Starting from the top: 1. Ham 2. Cheese 3. Sandwhich (the bread)Bradius wrote: BTW, the ham goes on the bottom and the cheese on top. It is called a "Ham and Cheese Sandwich" not a "Cheese and Ham Sandwich". Re: The eternal Ham and Cheese Sandwhich debate
if its cold out and you want to warm your sandwich and make a little panini you want the cheese to melt onto the meat and into the center of the sandwich, NOT into the bottom slice of bread where it just squishes out the sides and makes the bread soggy. This is why cheese must always be on top. This applies to all sandwiches. Veggies on top then cheese then meat. so the cheese can melt onto the meat and the veggies stay fresh and cool on top.

The cheese goes on top so when you toast it, it melts over the ham instead of getting the bottom bread slice soggy. It is science.

Re: The eternal Ham and Cheese Sandwhich debate
Yeah, heathens.
Everyone knows that the meat comes first in the sentence, because that's the layer one places first, then put the cheese on TOP, bro. You don't build a skyscraper from the capstone down, so it is with sandwiches.
Pastrami and Provolone? Pastrami goes first, then the cheese on top of that.
The only exceptions to this rule that I can think of are when the whole point is to sandwich the meat between cheeses, like on a Reuben or a properly made MONTE CRISTO. Bauru, too, but Bauru challenges all known sandwich physics by sandwiching cheese in-between slabs of meat.
Another argument ended by empiricism.

Francesinha
I think you are forgetting the rest of the ingredients...
I think the order of the ingredients is pretty clear in the picture.
If you come to Portugal don't forget to try one. The better ones are in Oporto

Re: The eternal Ham and Cheese Sandwhich debate
I can't believe this is even a discussion, of course cheese goes on top when not toasted, when toasted I put the cheese between the slices of ham to create a cheese magma pocket. What's next, arguing about whether the salt & pepper goes on the bread, the ham or the cheese? (I put it on the buttered slice of bread so it's stuck in an even distribution)

I had not thought about putting the cheese between slices of ham, but that makes sense. You have my vote. Now I have a craving for a Schlotzsky's Sandwich.
