Ellusionist Red Hellions Secret Release (Secret Menu #003)

So Ellusionist is finally releasing their Red Hellions deck. (Black tuck, red backs) David reviewed it back in July on his MO channel. Secret Member release as of today 18 Sept, general release in Oct. Cartamundi B9 as David reviewed it. Any fans better go get it before it sells out like the V1 Hellions. Only 10k decks were ever printed!

a re-colored edition of the Red Hellions deck has been pre-released on Ellusionist's Secret Menu #003 for Hellions members.



according to Ellusionist's IG post, 10,000 were printed by Cartamundi and the general release has been announced to be sometime in October.

lol, I asked the exact same thing on IG cuz there's literally no mention of there every being one anywhere - like did they really just skip over "Drop #002" to push these out before their October release and think that nobody's gunna notice???

So according to E's latest email the Red Hellions are noted as "Madison's last deck." I'm taking bets that that will most certainly NOT be the case. Months later someone at E will "find" a box in the back of a warehouse that contained previously unreleased Gold Hellions!!! Super rare and limited to only 10,000.

I have always thought their marketing strategies were annoying. I've found myself rolling my eyes for the past 10 years with almost every email the send out. But the joke's on us because whatever they're doing is working. I'm sure they're doing quite well for themselves! I can tell you this though- if I ever need to hype anything for any reason I'm hiring E to do it.
But what I don't understand is how they aren't scouring KS for new playing cards and asking themselves, "why don't we do something like this?" They arguably started this whole playing card trend but they seem to be stuck in the past, yo.

If what you are doing is consistently bringing in the money, keep doing it. Have a Plan B in case the money pipeline starts to sputter, and innovate to the extent that your business model allows, but Ellusionist isn't in the playing card business, as such (their branding, "Ellusionist Playing Cards," notwithstanding.) They are in the magic accessories business, and I'm guessing as an outside observer that they are doing okay.

Why do I guess this? Because they continue to release new products at about the same pace as they always have. Their experiments continue to be more aimed at the magic playing card market than at the cardist/collector market, per se, and continue to be slow, steady, and modest in scope (most recently, the "reload" decks and a deck of double-backers for their "Keepers" line,for example).

It wouldn't surprise me if the folks at E do keep an eye on what their direction competition (like Theory11) is up to, and trends in playing cards in general (via Kardify and 52+Jokers and UC and KS, etc.) But, to the extent that they know who their customer is, the evidence to us outsiders appears to indicate that they continue to be doing an okay job of extracting a decent amount of cash from a decent number of wallets... occasionally including mine.
