LanceTMiller wrote:We need to find a delicate balance between an abstract design that evokes the Vegas lifestyle mentality more so than it just being about clubs / parties / casinos, or any singular topic. When people think of Vegas, they think of the glitz and glamour, the shows, the lights, the excitement and energy that comes from escaping reality even if it's only for a little while. It's a challenging project to be sure, but it will be a great exercise in design balance and craftsmanship.
You nailed it - Incredibly impressive!
MagikFingerz wrote:The only critique I have is that there's a bit too much "frame" - the outer frame (the small circles and the outermost line) could IMO be removed and the remaining design could be enlarged. Too many or too "thick" frames doesn't do the "main" artwork any favors, only makes it smaller.

But other than that - hot damn!
I agree with Tom here. Even if you leave the outer frame alone, you can still go thinner on the outer white border.

I'd like to know which portions of the back design will have the diffractor treatment. Lance's sketch alone hints at the awesomeness ahead, and its almost mind-blowing to think about how much better it will be with the diffractor foiling.

Exciting times...Lance is lighting a fire under a box of explosives!

Regarding eventual diffractorising areas for this edition (and in some cases in combination with gold foiling areas)....we have a few general rules on this. Inanimate, inorganic areas are allowed, while animate and organic parts are not. It makes no sense in my mind to apply the diffractor enhancement to faces or other parts of any humans or animals. All inanimate artwork objects are fair game....as are frames. The other thing is that 2-D areas are ideal, whereas 3-D areas are not (due to the holographic foil itself being 2-D in appearance). On top of this - holographics shine brighter against different colour backgrounds, so this is always another consideration. Sinjin - This should give you an idea, but the answer is, we have not fully decided just yet.

N.B - 3-D diffractors are in the long term pipeline. They are FAR more difficult to make (i.e a full 52-card size origination composed of hundreds / thousands of smaller 3-D holograms) and register perfectly to the underlying inks. Custom originations of holographics also cost a fortune! But it's a further exciting opportunity as we progress with Diffractors.

Glad people are loving the artwork by Lance......it's a revelation for me I can tell you. So glad I reached out to him!

I am a proud owner of every Lance Miller deck except Fox Targets (gotta get my hands on those) and Truth and Lies, if you count those. But this will be no exception. Can't wait!

Glad to hear it Vasta! Cheers, we'll be very grateful to have you and all other backers on board again when we're ready to launch again.

On that note - although I don't want to shoot myself in the foot again by announcing an exact launch date too early and then changing it, the launch is currently planned for the first week of November.....Diffractor D-Day.

Digitizing underway.

The question is: Which parts of these artworks are going to be inks and which parts are transparent holographic only?? You'll have to wait until launch date to find out ;) Lance is helping to really bring out the unique possibilities with Diffractors.

Enjoy the sketches for now....

I’ll settle for some of that sweet sketch paper. Is that from the Kickstarter project from a few years back? Where can you get it now? Tomlinsonplayingcards.com is no longer active.

Hi folks, I'm cranking away on this project so, not much time to stop in. I've been feeding a lot of progress shots to VXD and letting them post on my behalf.

There will be at least one, (perhaps multiple?) Time lapse videos, so you can join in on the process and see how I go from sketch to fully rendered art for production.

Rest assured the border will not be as plain as it was shown in the early stages. Pretty much nothing on this deck design will be left to chance. ;)

I've been reading all of your messages and again thank you all for your support as we develop this amazing deck. No comment goes unnoticed or unappreciated. Thank you all so much for being amazing people who really embody the spirit of the custom card world.

Hi all

Question for everybody.....assuming about a 35-day project timeline, should we launch Vegas Diffractors on:

1) 9th November 2018
2) 1st January 2019

Thanks

I would have thought that the 9th November would be better for two reasons. Firstly, I assume that your deck will come with a hefty funding goal and, therefore, it is important that the campaign gains funding momentum (which would be difficult to do if you launch on the 1st). Secondly, and more importantly, I reckon that on 1 January you would find that many of your backers would find their wallets empty, what with the Xmas shopping and all.

First I think that a 35 day campaign is way too long! Then both dates are too close to other major events (Christmas promotions, black Friday,...) so in my opinion you should launch by the end of January!

Thanks for some thoughts there people. After a few more talks on the subject, we're gonna stick with our original date, which was:

9th November

and I agree that actually maybe 35 days is unnecessary....gonna plan to end it on December 5th (a date that means quite a lot to me personally).

Cheers

I know it's already decided, but just wanted to give my feedback. I would have preferred mid January. In November, I will be Black Friday broke.

I am fine. I will just not buy some other stuff. This is one I have to put in. Honestly, I am not planning on a Black Friday binge this year. Maybe that is wishful thinking on my part, but still...

Vegas Diffractor Playing Cards - PROMO VIDEO OUT

Unread post by VXD »

Thanks for the replies. We're going to stick with what we originally aimed for of 9th November. It's not the best time of year, but waiting until January has its disadvantages too, so we're gonna go for it.

Thanks Brad - always appreciate our previous backers support.

Cheers and hope people will be here to support this deck - I still feel there are so few VXD units out there, that it has not been able to even be seen by 95% of people so far.

We have upped our game this time too!....;)

Cheers

Roopey my dear friend

We have been here before (see old threads)....there is a very good reason we don't do CUSTOM INK Artwork.

One day maybe, just for novelty, but it is against our business plan for the foreseeable future. You'll have to settle for the CUSTOM HOLOGRAPHIC Artwork ON the court cards, I guess ;)

Glad you like the look....it was extremely hard work, again.

It is a great improvement. I like how you are really taking advantage of the diffraction technology in the design. I can't wait for the Kickstarter and to get these in hand. I must have a deck to open and enjoy. :ugdance:

Okay, maybe not what we might consider custom courts, but they have been modified to take advantage of the diffraction technology. I agree it would be nice to seem a more custom design. Perhaps in the next design.

I would definitely like to get one of these decks as well!

Excuse my noob, question or comment. This is billed as diffraction technology but it looks to me, by just the video, like a holographic foil. What is the difference?
