Re: Furious Playing Cards Printed by USPCC live on KS
I give them credit for trying yet another different tuck design. There's only so much you can do with a tuck and I like that they're pushing the limits. And $14 shipped for a USPCC deck with a funky tuck isn't all that bad. But the card design is lacking here for me. It's a little too minimal, which I'm sure is the goal they're going for. So even though I wish them luck I'm out this time. Just a little 2 fast and 2 furious for me.

I went ahead and snagged a two-deck EB slot, but not sure I will ride it out. The tuck is interesting, but the price to my door is a bit more than I would like for a really standard looking deck. I mean, they could have hired someone to at least doodle on the faces or something.

I don't think they could get the licensing from Universal, but the only thing this deck is missing is Paul Walker as the KoC and Vin Diesel as the KoS.
This deck might be 2 fast, 2 furious for me. Maybe.

Oh, wow, I didn't even click on the campaign page, until now. Yeah, nailed it.
The carbon fiber effect on the tuck gave it away.
I haven't seen this much rice since I helped my buddy swap the b18c head on his b16a2 civic.

I thought Palo Alto Productions and Roger Corman produced that 1955 John Ireland/Dorothy Malone classic flick.....ICantShuffle wrote:I don't think they could get the licensing from Universal, but the only thing this deck is missing is Paul Walker as the KoC and Vin Diesel as the KoS.

Huh. My first impression was that it looked like a knock off The Flash deck.
I agree with vasta, design is too minimal to make an impact and to warrant adding to the collection.

Yeah, I would agree, but the tip off was the Carbon Fiber, which wasn't invented until 1958, and not used in manufacturing until the mid 1960s.I thought Palo Alto Productions and Roger Corman produced that 1955 John Ireland/Dorothy Malone classic flick.....
It's clearly meant to emulate this look:

Tuck gimmick's interesting and kinda cool. Racing lines on the cards with recoloured courts and standard JAB treatment. Pity they didn't give a more Furious treatment to the courts, like sunglasses, leather jacket, Dom's wife beater and cross. Give it a close enough look without violating any TM or license. That would have really made it different enough for me to back.

Re: Furious Playing Cards Printed by USPCC live on KS
Eric,
Yeah, I'm kind of disappointed that they didn't do that myself. The deck just kind of hints at its theme-- enough that you can detect it without the campaign page, but really falls short of actually doing a good job of representing the theme in the deck. I would've taken a different approach to the back design.
I also would've done a custom joker, with NOS bottles, steel braided hoses, AN fittings, and maybe some turbo "snails" thrown in the design. But, meh, I'll forget about this deck once this thread dies, to be honest. Maybe another joker with the '70 Dodge Challenger and the supercharger sticking out of the hood.
You know what? Maybe I'll just produce my own deck and call it "The 1320." Yeah, that's a good idea.

Also, and a minor quibble given the issues discussed, is that full bleed on the face side (other than a single colour all the way round of course) makes it unsuitable for use in an actual game of cards.
