Re: The Ancients Bicycle® Playing Cards Deck - KICKSTARTER
Project Update #6
"After speaking with United States Postal officials yesterday, it has been brought to our attention that there are certain shipping restrictions and prohibitions established regarding playing cards. Yes, who would have thought this was even plausible? Due to these restrictions the overall success of the project at this point would be compromised considerably. That being said, the project cannot be put on hold so, regrettably it will be canceled...for now. While this was not the expected outcome, it has been a learning experience, and nevertheless very enlightening and informative.
The project will be restructured and relaunched when all shipping restrictions have been thoroughly researched and defined. All your feedback and suggestions have been invaluable. Everything will be carefully evaluated internally to improve upon and refine The Ancients before the project reappears. Thank you to each and everyone who pledged and helped us get so damn close, your interest and support is greatly appreciated and very humbling. It is you the Kickstarter community that inspires us to continue to improve, be better informed, and more creative. We will return, see you soon..."
Shipping restrictions??? I don't buy that at all.
Anyway, the project is cancelled

BULLSHIT.
You can mail unopened decks to Germany.
Italy, Spain, and Thailand say "no playing cards", I've never had a problem and neither has anyone else. Bureaucracy.
My guess is he wants more money. Watch his pricing and see if anything changes.

USPS shipping restrictions and prohibitions established regarding playing cards. Who would have guessed?
OMG! The USPS Mail police are at the doorstep of United States Playing Card Company….

Re: The Ancients Bicycle® Playing Cards Deck - KICKSTARTER
I have helped fund many KS card projects, and none have ever had a problem. The only thing that I can figure is that these are uranium coated.
Lame excuse. I doubt that you will be back but if you do surface again, don't look for my dollars to be there.

Re: The Ancients Bicycle® Playing Cards Deck - KICKSTARTER
There's massive international shipping changes coming at the end of the month from the USPS, not just the rate hike. I suspect it's mostly the rate hike that killed this though.

According to the USPS, retail on small flat rate boxes/envelopes will increase from $16.95 to $23.95, mediums from $47.95 to $59.95 and large from $60.95 to $77.95, internationally.neongrey wrote:There's massive international shipping changes coming at the end of the month from the USPS, not just the rate hike. (Canada increases to $19.95/40.95/53.95)
New prices start in a couple of hours.....

Re: The Ancients Bicycle® Playing Cards Deck - KICKSTARTER
I think this has more to do with the increase in price for international orders rather than restrictions. I have had minor complications sending to Thailand and other fellow KS had the same issue with another country. I personally saw the actual restriction on the post office's computer when it came up saying "no playing cards" (not sure if they were allowed to show me but she was new lol) but there is definitely an easy work around. Overall, I doubt that's the definite answer to the project's canceled state. I'm voting shipping rate changes not being factored in.

Holy crap, that's almost a 50% increase!hikeeba wrote:According to the USPS, retail on small flat rate boxes/envelopes will increase from $16.95 to $23.95...
I predict even less deck purchases in my future
Re: The Ancients Bicycle® Playing Cards Deck - KICKSTARTER
Yeah, I'm waiting until after the USPS rate hikes are settled to do any transactions... With what I saw for the hikes on international shipping, I'm not even going to bother with it, which is sad as I was starting to warm up to the idea...
But related to the cancellation of this deck... it seems awfully fishy to me...

If he would have said "the rates are being raised and I can't take a bath on this", I would have been fine with that.
I have no clue though as to what he actually said, it doesn't make sense.

I agree completely. It was strangely worded.
That is, if that is truly what he was referring to in his explanation.
