Complaining about his style getting boring is like complaining that your favorite sports team has won the championship 5 times in a row with the almost the same roster everytime.
Not complaining, just experiencing style fatigue. If I didn't love Gio's style then I wouldn't own every other one of his decks. But for the first time ever I'm sitting on the sideline with this one. If he released Odissea 2 years ago I would be in for all 3 decks easily. But at this point in time it's just not different enough for me to bear the financial commitment. Congrats on the success though, Gio! I'm eagerly awaiting your next project.

I agree with vasta41 here. Giovanni is a great designer and puts a lot of thought in every single deck he does, and for that he has my most sincere appreciation, don't know anyother designer that ties his decks so well.
For this set, once again Giovanni goes for the old formula, 3 is better than 2, which in this case is true, as if it were not for the limited edition I would probabily watching this campaign from the outside, unfortunatelly there's no way to get the Mythica deck alone...

Hello UC!

Odissea is on fire :mrgreen: - in just one week we unlocked a lot of stretch goals and we're actually at more than 200% funded, with (very) few limited rewards left on tiers that includes Mythica. Since I know that many backers are also UC members, a big thank you to all the supporters!

There is a new valuable stretch goal - for the first time, I've unlocked two coins:

You can see more details on the update > https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/th ... ts/2193387" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also thank you for all the feedbacks/advice, I'll consider them for my next project!

Cheers

Re: Thirdway Industries Odissea - LIVE on KS

Hello UC!

Some quick info on Odissea - The campaign is heavily overfunded and closing soon - I am very happy and I want to thank everyone decided to be aboard. :mrgreen:

When the campaign will close, I won't use BackerKit and I won't allow preorder on limited items (Odissea Mythica, Coins, Uncuts). Those will be sold later, when the Kickstarter will close, at retail price (much higher). As always, I try to give the best deal possible to KS backers ;-)

An important info for some members - I've decided the printer, I'll use USPCC + Gamblers Warehouse Boxes. This choice is for many factors:
- Since the project is huge, I prefer keep everything in the USA. It would be much faster and I want to avoid to ship via sea 7500+ decks :-)
- Metallic inks of USPCC are incredible: I had another confirm with Delirium Ascension. Odissea series have plenty of metallic
- USPCC registration isn't perfect, but shouldn't be a big issue with Odissea - the courts are not too close to border.
- Gamblers Warehouse did an awesome job with Delirium Absolute box

I will announce this in my final update, but since this is mainly an information for playing cards experts, I thought it was a nice thing tell here first.

If you was on the fence, especially if you want Mythica, please pledge before the campaign will ends > https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/th ... ying-cards" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Other useful info

- files are almost ready. I'm trying to send them to USPCC / GW very soon, so we can have those as early as possible. I hate wait :uggrin:
- I am planning some surprises for the end of the campaign, one for all backers and one for all the highest tiers.
- When the campaign will be done, Minerva and Neptune will be available on my website... I will use it like a sort of BackerKit > https://www.thirdwayindustries.com/product-tag/odissea/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thank you again for the incredible support!

I would like to comment on this argument, not as a Giovanni's friend, but as a fellow project creator. Being consistent with the style is a good thing, because you create a trend, a company image that "sells".. Actually I have the opposite problem: since I work with many different illustrators, the style is not the same, and that's confusing for a small new company like Passione. Love is a Smoke, Teliad, Inferno and the unfortunate Pizza are all different. I bet that if Passione launched "Purgatorio", the next in the Inferno series, things would have been different.

Oh and BTW, Vivaldi, Pinocchio and Liberty, our next projects, are all different.

The market speaks and says that Giovanni is right, it would not be wise to ignore that.

Printing these with USPCC makes me happier, considering that most of Gio's deck have been printed elsewhere. Despite being close in style, having new decks with different stock and finish definitely makes it a plus. It can give us better comparisons between the printers, too, because of his artistic style being fairly consistent.

Oh that's my fault . "Argument" is a false friend word for us, we often make a mistake and use it as a synonimus of "conversation" it has no negative meaning in Italian lanugage :)

In Latin derived languages, to present an argument, simply means to introduce a new fact or opinion in a discussion.

Perhaps the confusion is due to the similarity of the word between the languages. For instance, in Portuguese, the word is "argumento".
It's what the French call a "faux ami" (fake friend, when a similar word has a very different meaning)

Congrats, Gio!

I thought I'd chime in on a comment that was posted to the campaign regarding gilding. I just don't think that gilding would fit your decks. Especially since your style typically goes well with full-color backs. Gilding usually works better on decks that have a white border (a good contrast).

I think it'd be cool to see a Gio deck gilded in a non-traditional color. The Open Portals campaign, for example, is offering decks with cherry-red metallic gilding. That kind of bright, colorful pop would really pair well with Gio's more vibrant art, in my opinion.

@TwoPiece @Merlebird

Actually, I am curious about gilding - I was not very interested in the past, but lately I think it's one of the main features of decks I have never used, and I feel I'm missing something :lol:
I haven't decided yet if and when do that, but maybe I could try to gild some decks for "test". Let's see...

Anyways, thank you for the feedback, always useful :)

or maybe consider some neon edges like as seen on this deck - you don't see that very often and it would def fit the aesthetic of you bright neon-colored designs :)

Actually, many others in the past have gilded their decks in non-traditional colors (which I assume are gold, silver and copper like the Uusi decks), such as Gamblers, Alex Chin, Steve Minty and CPC, who have done various colored gilded decks, including blue, green, purple, red and even prismatic colors. Nevertheless, it is something that Gio hasn't done yet and I agree that it should be done! :ugdance:

I like the multi-chromatic guilding that the Bharata decks use, that would work with Gio's style.

I lied.

If you painted the edges of the yellow Lunatica deck neon yellow, that would look great (that's not gilding, though).

Also, if you gold-gilded the Pantheon deck, I would drool.

Those are very specific examples, though.

Ok those ideas have definitely my attention :-)

I was on the fence to gild something, those comments helped me to decide to pull the trigger. I will take some days for fix Odissea stuff and rest a little, then I'll start thinking about this.

Thank you very much for the kind comments and ideas!

portcullis wrote:Full disclosure: the limited deck and the EB price was enough to get me in. Had it stayed as a pair it would have been an easy pass.

I just wanted to add further to my comments yesterday, because I was discussing this set with a fellow collector who actually put me onto Gio's work and I blundered into my critique of Gio's work. I appreciate the amount of work Gio puts into every single card he produces, and his decks are becoming increasingly intricate and there has been a significant progression in terms of technique but there's really been no evolution in terms of the art style since Dedalo. But that's one opinion emerging from the garble.

My other gripe is that, to put it plainly, I'm ready to see something really different from Gio. As great as these classical mythology-inspired decks have been, you don't go to Subway solely for a ham, cheese and tomato toastie. I had the same complaint of Natalia Silva a while back and she pulled Avalon out of nowhere after several variations upon the Dia Los Muertos theme. I know it's been done before by others, but I'd really like to see Gio's take on a high medieval-themed deck: Joan of Arc or the Bayeux [Tapestry] Embroidery or even something Angevin. Heck if it was able to be done I'd even take a Shakespearean-themed deck from Gio. None of those suggestions, however, should be in his signature art style.
I'm still laughing that even after all your ranting, you still backed the deck. :lol: I would like to see a different theme, still don't mind the artwork, but a new theme would be fantastic.

Hello UC! If you are an Odissea Backer, you should have seen my latest update ;-)
Based on KS and UC feedbacks, I've decided to make my first gilded deck, an Odissea limited edition called "Nec Plus Ultra".

For now, this deck is reserved to Odissea backers, with a special price only for them ($39 incl. shipping) - If it won't be sold out or too low stock, I will made a Kickstarter or a preorder for non-backers too (with an higher price). I will made max 500 decks, they're expensive as hell on my side =)
I've designed a simple but crazy tuck, gold foil on white pearlescent paper.

This is an experiment for me, so I've decided to use gold. If it will go well, I will use some crazier colors in future (need to check if they're available of course)
Gilding will be made by Gambler's Warehouse.

Hope you'll like this idea :-)

Thank you for the inspiration!

Gio
