I liked the backs. The courts were custom, but didn’t inspire me. $12 plus $5 domestic shipping for 1 deck is keeping me away.

Yep. If the price was right I would buy it. A nice custom deck for everyday use, but not at that price point.Bradius wrote:I liked the backs. The courts were custom, but didn’t inspire me. $12 plus $5 domestic shipping for 1 deck is keeping me away.

Awesome backs, not bad courts, love USPCC printing, and the tuck is *okay* but could stand out more. However $17 for a no-bling deck is too much. With a blinged-out tuck or MeatlLuxe back I'd be in but as it stands I must be out.

Re: Black Tails Playing Cards: Live on KS
The faces of the court cards feel stylistically inconsistent to me: compare the more realistic facial proportions of the QoH to the caricatured exaggeration of the QoC. I can see the artist wanted to portray a variety of facial features in a way that was consistently simple, but it's led them to make some choices that I don't think work; the bushy beard of the KoC, for example, looks flat and amateurish. (And something about the face of the KoH lands squarely in the uncanny valley for me, though perhaps not for others.) I do like the colors selected, but that's about it.
The back, to me, feels like a simplified amalgam of the ones from Bona Fide's Alexandre Dumas decks - the ship's wheel of the Count of Monte Cristo and the composition of the Three Musketeers - but that's honestly probably just bad luck on their part.

I was digging the cards until I got to the custom courts. They remind me of the ones on Ellusionist's Madison and Ramsay decks which I loathe. What a shame.

Dude, when USPCC perfects MeatLuxe printing, I'm *all over* that action. Coming soon in three flavors: Bacon, Filet Mignon, and, of course, Chicken.vasta41 wrote:...With a blinged-out tuck or MeatlLuxe back I'd be in but as it stands I must be out.

Finally, a deck all of you mint-in-cello deck lovers will want to open as soon as possible....rousselle wrote:Dude, when USPCC perfects MeatLuxe printing, I'm *all over* that action. You better hope they release a LE Lamb flavor, though; it goes better with mint.

Re: Black Tails Playing Cards: Live on KS
Why not chicken and bacon together as one flavor? That way we can have the third flavor be reindeer. All the flavor in the meat, no fat whatsoever. Trust me, it's amazing.rousselle wrote:Dude, when USPCC perfects MeatLuxe printing, I'm *all over* that action. Re: Black Tales Playing Cards: Live on KS
Vanda almost did bacon scented cards for their Bacon deck. I ordered one and was very disappointed when I got it and it didn't smell like bacon. I asked on this forum why that was and come to find out the small sample they ordered stunk up their whole factory and it was very overwhelming. So even though I'd still like to see scented cards someday (I'm sure Lotrek is on it!) I'm rather glad that deck isn't stinking up my collection.

This is another one of those decks where the creator looks like he/she's using their friend's faces for the court cards. They always look out of place, and this is no exception.

Re: Black Tales Playing Cards: Live on KS
Relaunched.
Looks like there were some changes made, including price. Deck is still $12, but the shipping is free within the US. Also, no longer listed as "Chapter 1: The Arrival."
I'm backing because I like the colors in the deck and the back design (Cannons and a Helm wheel? More please. Reminds me of a tattoo I wanted when I was an E-3, would've regretted the tattoo, but entirely appropriate for the back of a poker deck). Still USPCC printed with linen finish.

5 years ago I would have been all over this deck! Now, compared to all the amazing playing card art out there, this one just doesn't float my boat...
Keep it Sizzlin'!

Re: Black Tales Playing Cards: Live on KS
I was originally backing the other deck, but this one has decidedly fewer skulls. I really, honestly, would like a tall-ships themed deck that is done in a hand-drawn/naturalist style, not necessarily pirates, featuring a nautical take on (living) court cards. This looks like the closest I'm going to get, unless Jackson Robinson finishes his Armed Services themes decks. So many things you could do with a Navy themed deck.
Not to knock anyone's tastes, I generally try to stay positive, but I'm getting tired of the undead/Cthulhu/steampunk churn lately. Not just with playing cards, it's plaguing the table top gaming scene as a whole (board games, miniatures games, RPGs).

Re: Black Tales Playing Cards: Live on KS
This would also make me testy at the very least, but I also understand how it could make someone gonad.Merlebird wrote:rousselle wrote:Incidentally, the Pirate deck is in another thread.
Also, this deck, while not terrible, is just.... 'oooo-kay' - and although the courts are custom, the designs are a bit too mediocre my tastes - the price is a huge improvement which might be enough for to get this funded; but i'mma sit this one out for now.
and maybe it's just me, but do the hands on the JoS look a teensy-weensy bit too miniscule in comparison to the others...??
Also, THIS^ I can't stand to see yet another board game with these themes also... total oversaturation, and I'm totally over it - ugh!ICantShuffle wrote:Not to knock anyone's tastes, I generally try to stay positive, but I'm getting tired of the undead/Cthulhu/steampunk churn lately.
