Or if viable competition appears.

Needless to say, I'm not holding my breath.
That brings something to mind I've been thinking specifically in reference to Kickstarter. I think we all need to get together and start a really (loud & noisy if necessary and they as usual chose to ignore us at first) petition for them to make a new policy that "No one should sell anything online or commercially at all until the backer pledges are fulfilled". I know it's a double-edged sword, and certain projects I'd just as soon not mention never would have gotten delivered if you couldn't, but it would at least send a clear signal to the projects that "we've had enough" of this crap. I got my Pharaoh & Pharaoh Foil order a few days ago, and I still haven't seen my KS 'reward' yet. I'm a person that just doesn't like to point fingers, but something has to be done. Is our reward having to wait until everybody has enough money to get us the cards we already paid for? If it wasn't for the backers, there wouldn't be any to sell. Even I - the optimist in the crowd (usually) - am starting to become a bit jaded.

ratledge - Are you saying I can't underbid my Kickstarter to make sure I get funded and then I realize I have no money for shipping and then open my own store and sell decks of cards the first day I get them. I could even throw a couple of them on Ebay and snipe for high bids and then maybe I could offload a bunch of extra bricks to resellers to raise money for domestic shipping. International backers Haha. Then if I can't fulfill all the domestic shipping I'll just fulfill the ones that bitch the most. --Business Plan--

Russell has been getting beat up pretty good by everyone, including myself and deservedly so. He is a perfect example of why deck creators should just work with an established reseller to sell their decks. Russell has no idea what he is doing outside of creating the artwork for a deck. Why sell your deck for $7 when the market was willing to pay $10? Not to mention that he dragged his feet, like most KS creators, then got himself in a mess when USPS had a huge rate increase. In the end, most creators should focus on what they do best and that is designing a deck and let someone else who is more experienced in business handle the rest. Randy is a perfect example. He creates the deck and then lets someone else handle everything else. Is his gross profit before expenses less? Yes but his net profit (That is what counts folks) is way more because he spends his time designing his next deck instead of trying to pack and ship everything out. I guarantee you at the end of the day, Randy is making more per hour doing it that way than someone who is handling the whole project from soup to nuts. All of these failures are simply because the designers are not smart enough to figure that out. They are just too greedy and get what they deserve.

Thanks!

$10 or more now. I agree, they should find a good "fulfillment" company or let somebody else handle the soup to nuts part, and stick to designing, which is what they are best doing.

I can't imagine that Erik ("AlbinoDragon") would even consider trying to self-fulfill those 11,334 backers' pledges for "The Name of the Wind", and he can afford it with over 1/2 million for the biggest selling playing card project ever on Kickstarter by almost 3-to-1. Looks like he'll be breaking the $100,000 level on this "Princess Bride" project, given about 2 1/2 days left he's already showing $95k.

I noticed that I already added one to the "Top 10" (in the $75K+ level) today when I updated the first of those two lists, and adjusted the format slightly. I'll get busy and start adding the new projects this afternoon. I also noted that it's a never-ending process, by the time I had added the six I pruned from one to the other last night, there was another one funder overnight, and two more with just hours to go. Let's see if I can find them all, I'm certain to miss one I suppose.

I think we're too quick to jump on people, frankly. I expect that everyone will get their decks, and understand that it's frustrating when you see something like this if you haven't gotten your KS reward yet. Maybe they should make a policy there that you're not allowed to take commercial orders until you have fulfilled your KS orders? Just thinking out loud. It's worth a thought.
The original delivery date was Dec 2012. Which means these will very shortly be a year overdue. After a year, anyone who is *not* jumping on top of Russell and CCC needs to be checked for signs of intelligent life. Heh.

Regarding your other thought - it's probably a good idea. In fact, I've been thinking for a while we need a Kickstarter Bill of Rights. But I can't see any way of actually getting KS to adopt it, so it seems like a dead issue. The only way I see KS changing is if Amazon ever gets pissed enough to threaten to cut them off. Or if viable competition appears.

Needless to say, I'm not holding my breath.
As much as I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, I've had my pair of Quicksilver decks for more than a month, and I didn't join Kickstarter until late August of this year, so I didn't back the project.

Tells you something, I hope. He tossed in an extra of the "Heraldry" (Azure) decks, so I can't bitch much. I notice both of those ("Heraldry") are sold out, now.

As far as a "Kickstarter Bill of Rights", I'm fairly certain that ain't gonna happen. Maybe join in the conversation on this thread: http://unitedcardists.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2597" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I suppose anything can happen. Pigs have flown enough this last year. I would wait until your decks come before I celebrate. He obviously is shipping, albeit maybe selectively - as noted before, the squeaky wheel gets greased first. I'd make some noise!

I don't think that's possible, Jay. At least I can't thank my own posts.

Btw, I've heard that if you thank your own posts too much you might... nevermind.

I received mine after ordering more Hornets since I wanted to get more while/if I could. They all arrived together - the Hornets and the Quicksilvers.

From what I've seen in the KS comments people have had their orders arrive slowly but steadily throughout most of 2014, so maybe there's a chance this project will be completely fulfilled eventually. I was one of the lucky ones who received my pledge package before the whole controversy began, I'm glad it looks like things might bet resolved for the rest of you too.
Yes, I might be the guy you remember from that thing at that place way back when.

Nice find, Victor. Thanks for posting.

I edited the original post to reflect the fact that this has long since passed out of relevancy as a KS project.

As for Russell... all I can do is shake my head. He was a good card designer and, at one point, played an important role in this community (he did run UC for a while, after all). It's too bad he couldn't honor his commitments, and on so many fronts.
