Resurrected Deck from Peter Turner
Resurrected Deck from Peter Turner
Hi guys, realised I haven’t been on this forum for WAY too long, I hope it’s OK to post this: We recently launched a new deck with notorious UK mentalist Peter Turner, based on his design: The Resurrected Deck. He’d had this design for literally years and the project had been besieged by problems, which had meant it had never *quite* seen the light of day. He contacted me based on my work on the DMC decks and sent me the original paper sketches, and I basically rebuilt the deck from the ground up using the sketches as direction and a design guide rather than just copying them. I’m really pleased with the end result, and we launched them at Blackpool Magic Convention.
The deck is based on the iconic design of a spirit board, giving it a slightly vintage, creepy feel, and it incorporates Peter’s unique marking system. The card stock is good, they handle nicely (which I was pleased with because this is the first deck we’ve put through a new supplier) and the print is really nice. The faces are all standard but the Aces are custom, refined and rebuilt versions of the artwork Peter sent me. The deck is my favourite to perform with at the moment, the deck came out great. It was nice to be able to bring the deck back from the dead, so we named it the Resurrected Deck.

Who is the printer/manufacturer? (If you say who it is on your site, I apologize. I'm writing from behind a firewall at the moment, and can't visit the link just yet.)
This space intentionally left blank.
Re: Resurrected Deck from Peter Turner
Hi Rousselle, we are working directly with an independent manufacturer so it's not Cartamundi or USPCC or really anyone we'd ever heard of until we found them. The card stock is great quality, the trim is really nice on the cards, smooth edges, the box is really nice and the print is produced to a really high standard (which is great because the design is quite fiddly). I realise that makes it an unknown quantity for you to trust to buy a deck, but having done this deck and been delighted by the process and the product I'm about to pull the trigger on 10,000 next gen DMC ELITE decks with them: if I can trust them with that, you can trust them with this.

Why are there so few pictures of the actual cards?
Hint: We would like to see pictures of the actual cards.

The Ace of Spades-as-planchette is a nice touch. But what is that shape on the Ace of Clubs? It looks like brass knuckles

Re: Resurrected Deck from Peter Turner
I really can't wait for the reviews to come in about this printer because the mention of a new printers raise suspicions around here. "Why use a new printer when there are 3-4 other printers with an already established reputation?" "Is this printer really as good as he says it is?" These are just a couple of concerns I'm sure some people will have. Other people might be critical of my skepticisms and may think they're unwarranted on a public forum about playing cards. But I would like to point out that I will wait for the decks to be in peoples hands before I judge. I'm just embellishing on a curious decision.

Hi Merlebird, I'll post the four Aces. Yeah the Ace of clubs is a set of knuckles - the original sketches had something similar and Peter has got this tough guy biker aesthetic I wanted to at least reference, even though it isn't core to the deck.
Ref: the printer, sure there's a few established printers globally, but bear in mind I have dealt with and put projects through almost all of them and there's a reason I've kept looking. Happy with everything with the new supplier but of course I understand your skepticism.

Hi Pixels yes the court cards are standard. We played with a few different ideas but in the end this is a performance deck and I generally think the faces should be pretty standard to reduce confusion for punters.

Nice back, nice jokers. Way better tuck than V1. Courts... f*** off with that lazy excuse. Madhi performes with Faro inspired cards and never had problems. I guess Kellar won't have problems with his deck as well.
Keep your courts standard if you like them standard; no need to justify it with some pseudo "less suspicious/avoid punts"... etc

Re: Resurrected Deck from Peter Turner
Hi guys, I am the one who is hosting the new kickstarter, all the details of the deck can be found on the kickstarter page here -
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ab ... ject_build
Someone posted that price per deck is 29$ - The actual price 17$ per deck, which is cheaper than the original 'Resurrected deck' which retailed at $26.85. In response to the court cards, I am predominantly a magician more so than a mentalist - and I have absolutely no issues with custom court cards. I did however choose to model the deck on the original notes that came with the art work for the deck. There were paragraphs of text written by Pete and detailed Peter Turner's original vision for the way he wanted the deck - one of the notes was to have standard courts. He had been recommended this by R.Paul Wilson (after a lengthy discussion). i did actually have custom courts designed by Daniel Schnieder and was originally going to run with them, but in the end decided to stay in line with the notes and only made subtle changes to the court cards. I decided to change the eyes of the court cards to pay homage to the original (unreleased) trailer - Which can be seen by hitting the play button on the kickstarter. I took out the PT logos and replaced with them with Cross Keys and also removed Peter Turner's name from the Ace of Spades.
Most importantly, these are printed on Cartamundi's true B9 stock! Which is a vast improvement over the stock of the original Resurrected Deck.
There are only 7 days left on the project, only 30 of the red decks left.
Thanks for posting about the kickstarter -
Nathan
