Honestly you should probably pop in all your other courts before deciding on this one instance. I personally love the black border with this King but looking over your other courts gold would work out the best imho for the majority of illustrations. I'd also have to think that whatever border color you end up picking ends up being your full face color for your regular number cards so maybe look over how a full hand would look?
vasta41 wrote:My vote will always be to match the back border color with the front border color.
Either way it's going to be a killer deck but I could not agree more with vasta. You can keep the back design black and pop a gold border on it if you end up doing gold faces but whatever you end up doing make sure edging matches. (Just my own personal OCD lol).

Super pumped for these. Great job man.

I heartily vote version A. That gold is indeed sexy and unusual. The black seems plain.

You make a good point about the number card face color matching the border of the courts, Alex.

Off topic: I can't freaking wait to receive Apothecary Part 2. Absolutely gorgeous campaign.

You lose the pop of the gold line on the hearts/diamonds whitish top part it looks great with the black border lower down so B for me.
Move on, nothing to see here.

Since the back color is black, I definitely prefer the front border to be black as well, so version B for sure.

HMMM.. hard decision
"A" looks really good at the KoD but does that gold border look good at all face cards ? especially for the red number cards.
I would like to see the deck with gold border, that would make this deck even more special.
On the other side i'm not a big fan of decks that have different borders for back and face cards then "B" would better.

Don't know. ABBABBAAAB :?

We're never going to agree on everything, but I suspect that the actual end result will be closer to "C" - i.e. somewhere in between or around the corner from A or B.

Hi all!
I might do both, it depends by the costs.
The plan is to finish the deck, make a couple of decision and get the quotations from the producers.

All options are open, but uspcc's imprecise registration scares me a bit.... I will see.

Here is a nice rendered fan by Nicolas Molines (Instagram) :)

Today I worked on the pips and even if I said that I wanted it indexless, I found this tarot-like layout that works quite well.
The standard index is gone of course, and there is no small pip under the number as you can see.
I let them "rest" for a while and work on the jokers and the rest.

Image

As you know, this is not a functional deck. Of course you can play with it, but in another way. Poker players are going to pick another one among thousands of designs :)
To me is important to keep the design consistency, keeping readability and quality.
This old deck designed by Thomas Crehore made in circa 1820 was my starting point.

Hello!
another weekend is over and I more work to show: the ace of spades for the white version.
The one for the black version will be a bit different (just the layout).

I hope you like it. Disregard the printing resolution, it is my inkjet. :)

and here is the variant for the black version, called Cartomancer.
I improved the design, better readability with a night sky and more symmetry :)

Jokers! golden background for the black version (Cartomancer), white background for the classic one (in white).
I am working on the tuckbox at the moment and on the campaign structure (rewards and prices). I am waiting for quotations and I hope I can launch in a month or so.

I hope you like them :)
