Re: NEO: LIVE on Kickstarter
You're talking about using a smooth finish?
So... For what it's worth, I'm really not a fan of the smooth textured cards. I have yet to find a deck where the smooth works out well. Textured (such as the linen finishes) cards slide better on the card table, and also slide better against other cards for fanning purposes.
I love the idea of playing with the stock stiffness / suppleness / density / thickness. I love the idea of experimenting with the coating. But, when it comes to texture, smooth (counter intuitively) does not make for good slipperiness.

Re: NEO: LIVE on Kickstarter
I agree with you about the smoothness and so would most professional soccer players. In 2010 the Jabulani ball was created for the FIFA World Cup and it's "skin" was nearly a flawless sphere, which you would think would be ideal (similar to a smooth playing card finish). But on the contrary- when there is less surface roughness, the ball doesn't travel as easily or as far. Players criticized it for it's terrible flight paths and unpredictability. So in 2014 when the Brazuca was made they added more "irregularities" on the surface (similar to dimples on a golf ball) which lead to better ball movement and more player praise. Here's a graph to show the difference between distributed sideways forces:rousselle wrote:You're talking about using a smooth finish?

In summation, Alan is right and there's science to prove it

No. It's just a smooth paper with post-processing. They create a texture. If you know the Diamon finish - almost no texture and smooth. But this one is in the middle (Diamond vs Classic).rousselle wrote:You're talking about using a smooth finish?

Phew! Okay, then. Excellent. Thanks for putting my mind at ease! And, thanks for the photos, that helps a lot with understanding what you're describing. Re: NEO: LIVE on Kickstarter
Thanks Allan for asking the question and Alex for the pictures which made things very clear. What I have seen is that the varnish or coating is also a very important factor and if you look around, you will find that almost every printer has a finish named linen available with them but it still doesn't match Bicycle's Air Cushion finish. Post processing after the dimpled pattern on the cards is what makes or breaks the handling.

Re: NEO: FUNDED on Kickstarter
Hi! All NZ and AU parcels were shipped out on 27/28th of December. 5 * AU will be shipped from US. All other parcels to US and International backers will be shipped on Monday by GW. Finally.
NEO is almost sold out - I have about 50 decks to sell from my site plus 36 decks as a private reserve. Some decks will be available on Art of Play and GW sites when I finish the fulfillment.
I'll take some photos next week and post them via Kickstarter.
thanks))

So, as an AU backer who backed a pair, I should expect something from NZ in a few days?

I see your nickname in the list of 5 AU parcels to send from US (backer's numbers 236, 300, 310, 180, 267) Please expect them in 1-2 weeks.portcullis wrote:So, as an AU backer who backed a pair, I should expect something from NZ in a few days?

I don't understand the tier system here, but I would think so. Or maybe Mike+the Mods have to receive a deck first?

Re: NEO: FUNDED on Kickstarter (Now Shipping)
The reason is simple - I did not planned to ship to Australia from New Zealand. I'm loosing $3 per parcel with 2 decks. Have done this due to the project's delay. A couple of backers bought more decks before the fulfillment so I need to keep some for my private reserve. That's why 5 random parcels to Australia will be shipped from US.portcullis wrote:OK, cool. Re: NEO: FUNDED on Kickstarter (Now Shipping)
I have a question about the NEO Ltd deck.
The Kickstarter project says this would be printed by WJPC, and the product page at Montenzi also says this. But it doesn't say WJPC anywhere on the tuck box. And when I contacted WJPC about this, they told me that this is not a deck that they printed.
Also the quality of the deck doesn't seem light it is typical WJPC. The cut of the cards feels like it is laser cut (perfectly smooth), and so faro shuffles aren't possible. The tuck box looks amazing with cold foil, mind you.
Was the NEO Ltd printed by WJPC, or was it in fact printed by a different company, despite what it says on the Kickstarter and the product page?
