Gentleman, pay no attention to the borders shown here. As I stated this is a work in progress and you all know my extreme attention to detail goes all the way into what they will look like in a fan, giant fan, and also how the back looks in motion. That is to say: You need not worry about the borders as I will definitely be continuing to improve this deck and build it into something amazing that we can all enjoy for our respective reasons.Evan wrote:Looks awesome Lance! Re: Lance Miller Decks -- Officical Thread
Here is a current standing version of my new deck. It's waaaaaaaay darker in the background than I had imagined I would go. However, my question to you all is whether you like the darker version better or the lighter version. Share your thoughts on my Facebook page and get in on the creation process!

Re: Lance Miller Decks -- Officical Thread
I am liking this the more I look at it!
Do you plan on keeping the shields with the + symbols facing in the same direction? It's a small thing, I think even the "OMFG IT HAZ 2 B 2 WAYZ" people could look past it. I like it how it is.

I concur. The first one was too bland.volantangel wrote:I like the new one, makes the cards have more depth
Re: Lance Miller Decks -- Officical Thread
I like the dark depth. It fits the "little green fairy/absinthe" thing you've got going.
And... is it meant to be a one-way back?

Re: Lance Miller Decks -- Officical Thread
Damn, I should've caught that. Now that I see it, that's not really subtle enough for my taste. I'll still buy it, but you knowSharpie wrote:And... is it meant to be a one-way back?
Re: Lance Miller Decks -- Officical Thread
The dark looks great. Really pops...especially when comparing it against the "light" version
Re: Lance Miller Decks -- Officical Thread
Liked the original. Like the darker one better. Agree with others on depth and contrast in darker one. Almost like first time you saw HD tv. Loved what you had until you were presented with something much cleaner and crisper.

I agree that the dark looks better but that vomit yellow is just horrendous with that green.

Re: Lance Miller Decks -- Officical Thread
With so many people commenting on the one-way back I feel it necessary to clarify my current thought process, while hopefully you all keep in mind, this is a work in progress.
My initial design actually had the shields flipped opposite of each other, then I got to thinking about the practical applications of one-ways, and the fact that in my previous decks a lot of folks said my one-ways were too subtle and even unusable. So I started thinking about this design and performance settings, and I really delved into looking at it from a laymen perspective. They would not notice or even think to consider that the little point on the shield was what told you their card, if you craft your performance well and, like all great performers, misdirection would lead them to consider an alternate means of discovering their card, thus leaving you clean on the real effect.
I've shared the design already with some rather prominent performers in our field and they unanimously agreed that it is a nice one-way that would pass even the most perceptive of laylays given the proper performance and handling. I'm not sure why but I like both shields sitting in that upright position more xD
As far as requests for theme info, I'm not quite ready to let the cat out of the bag on the name or theme, but suffice it to say we have some real sharp people here that are all over it.

Re: Lance Miller Decks -- Officical Thread
I agree, but I know won't like it when they're all jumbled together. All one-way backs look good the right way. And while you might be right about laymen not noticing, I'm not mainly a magician so that's not where I'm coming from. I don't want it to be too obvious for myself, because I know I will notice it when I'm handling the cards. When it is, I automatically keep thinking that I have to keep them the right way (OCD much?), and that in itself keeps me from enjoying them as much as I could have. And personally, I have never seen a one-way design being TOO subtle, let alone useless (unless the detail is placed in a bad position or something).lancetmiller wrote:I'm not sure why but I like both shields sitting in that upright position more xD
My 2 cents anyway
Re: Lance Miller Decks -- Officical Thread
The shields aren't the only thing that makes this a one-way back... there's subtle differences in the gals on the top and bottom of the card... Here's a side by side comparison (Left = Top, Right = Bottom).
It's subtle, but not symmetrical. The large circle appears to flatten out (for the right/bottom gal) as it goes behind the gals head. Also, there's a white line to the right of her head on the top gal, but not the bottom gal....

Keep in mind, I now know where to look for good places to "mark cards". Also before my current job, I was a web designer for about 10 years. So my eyes naturally tend to gravitate towards things that don't make sense when something should be symmetrical.
Re: Lance Miller Decks -- Officical Thread
I just do this with my decks...
to be fair, VERY few decks are truly symmetrical. most are off by a little bit. luckily lance is still in the middle of designing so he can move things around a bit.
