Re: Vol 2. Sisterhood of Blood - 52 Ravens
I agree that the red inside makes the courts pop more, but I also feel like it just "moves" the white space to the borders, which makes the entire card seem smaller. The red border has the opposite effect, which is why I like it more.
Red borders is also a feature less often used, making the deck more unique. My vote still goes to red borders

Re: Vol 2. Sisterhood of Blood - 52 Ravens
How about making the color of the inner frame of the red-bordered cards same as the white-bordered ones? I think that the inner frame of the red-bordered cards is too subtle as compared to the white-bordered ones.
My vote is for the red-bordered one.

Tom has a good point. You should do both.

NNOOO! haha. I really hoped everyone would side with one design to make this easy, I totally hear what you're saying, it does make it more unique.Kage X wrote:My vote is for the red-bordered one.
OK - As much as I would love to have faith that I could do both versions, I don't think its going to be possible. Coven had the extra traffic from Exploding Kittens going crazy with new people coming to kickstater, which helped me massively with referral backers. Vol 1 of the Sisterhood of Blood crawled up to the finish line, collapsed and gently placed its hand over the line, for which I'm truly grateful for as I really like this deck. Even the interaction with the posts of this tread seem muted compared to before, so I think I'd be pushing my luck if I tried for two decks at once.
Having said that, this doesn't help with making a decision over which version to go with. I love the inner red, it solves the outer pip problem and it brings it closer to vol 1 but still maintaining a clear difference. BUT! The red border version is different to what is already out there, though would this alienate it?
I think unless I can be convinced otherwise I'll be going with the inner red version. Last chance to fight the red border corner
I'll post the Kings over the weekend, thanks for all your input guys, I really appreciate it.

I tend to prefer the red outside ... and also unlike everyone else, I tend to prefer the single-colour borderless index pips, though of course I know that achieving a good colour balance so that the contrast is good for both the black and the light-coloured indices would be more difficult. It just looks a more elegant solution to me if you can get it to work. Anyway, go with what you feel, I think.

Re: Vol 2. Sisterhood of Blood - 52 Ravens
I know it's more work.... but, to get a better idea, seeing more cards might help:
Two court cards (say one diamond and one spade) + two number cards (again say diamond and spade) - and use these to show a comparison between the two versions ...
There's always going to be opposite ideas and tastes, so in the end I think you should absolutely go with the one that speaks to you the most

Hey!
Here are the Kings, there are a couple of things that jump out at me but I'll let you guys take the glory.
As always please feel free to go to town on the layouts, and constructive feedback will be rewarded if it develops the design, with naming of the vampires

They are fricking amazing. It honestly don't see anything wrong with them.
As for the red debate, I would like to see an option of the red being on the edge, BUT very thin. Kinda like Lorenzo's Le Chat Rouge, that one had a thin black border on the face of the cards. I am not saying that it is the best absolutely but I would like to see a design of it as an option.

Soooo, is everyone a little bored of the Sisterhood design and theme? The forum is very quiet. I'm not seeking attention its just that if you guys really aren't into it, maybe the other backers of Vol 1 will feel the same? I'd much rather put my time into something you guys are excited about than produce a deck that isn't that interesting
PS - not looking for an ego stroke, I just want to be sure its what the card community are looking for.

I actually feel like you've received a reasonable amount of replies by this forum's standards
To be honest, one of the things I like about this place is that we don't have people that feel the need to comment on absolutely everything, the members here seem to only comment on things they have an interest in or feel like they can contribute to. I'm sure there's plenty who are interested in this but just haven't seen a need to mention anything specific. Remember, there's a lot more people who vote in elections than are politically active

Re: Vol 2. Sisterhood of Blood - 52 Ravens
I think this is a legitimate successor to the first deck. It is different enough to be interesting rather than being a recolor. The quality of the art and concept makes it stand above the usual vampire themed decks which have been done to death (no pun intended). I think the two will make a nice set- bookends if you will. However, as much as I would like to see both border combinations, it is probably best to stick to just one, although a stretch goal might work. Even though I dislike the concept, you might make one a super-limited, on-of-a-kind, never to be printed again, super-cool, magnificent, got-to-have-it- to-complete-the-set, edition. You can print a couple hundred at MPC for next to nothing and then charge $35 a pop for them. That might build some interest and get you over your goal more easily. Of course, I won't be buying any. In fact, I feel dirty for even suggesting it. In any case, after this campaign, it might be a good idea to move on to a different type of project, which I'm sure you are already planning.

Re: Vol 2. Sisterhood of Blood - 52 Ravens
Thanks guys. Like I said, I wasn't fishing for an ego boost, I just felt that the usual critical eye of UC was a little quiet and wanted to make sure it wasn't a lack of enthusiasm for more of the sisterhood theme. I working on the back still, I'm not happy with it as it is, but will crack on over the weekend.
Thanks for all the support everyone, if you've commented and want to name a vampire, feel free to PM me, pending terms and conditions, and my final approval as I'll be writing a book for Vol 2 character too
Good point, maybe it means I've found my groove for producing artwork, people are happy with what I have to offer...MagikFingerz wrote:I'm sure there's plenty who are interested in this but just haven't seen a need to mention anything specific.

Re: Vol 2. Sisterhood of Blood - 52 Ravens
Kings are looking great - and going with your gut feeling when deciding on red inside or outside is exactly what you should be doing....
Number cards, curious to see how you plan to do them? Just looking at the red inside on courts, I'd like to see how numbers would look on the red panel (with black vs off-white pips on top). I know it's not standard to 'frame' number cards, though to place them straight on the off-white background would mean either making a border for each 'white' diamond/heart OR changing the pip colour to red (thus loosing some of the visual language from the courts)... I'm sure you've already thought out and planned these cards, just throwing in my 2c and curiosity - Looking forward to see the back as well!

Hadn't thought of the number cards. Red border would be much easier to use across all the cards, both for consistency and uniqueness. If you go with just plain number cards, won't they look the same as in Vol 1?

Re: Vol 2. Sisterhood of Blood - 52 Ravens
Hey Everyone!
With no-one spotting any issues with the Kings, I thought I would share the first draft of the back design, along with a couple of 3d renders to help put it in the real world view as apposed to flat.
I'm not sure if the roses are too much, see what you think. I've tried to use more red than black this time so hopefully its not too overpowering. I know someone will mention me reverting back to "normal" border instead of the thin ones on volume 1 but I'll sleep better this way
I'll have a think about the number cards, I think it'll be ok to be similar to vol 1, I'll have a play around.
As always please feel free to go to town on the layout, and constructive feedback will be rewarded if it develops the design, with naming of the vampires

That back design is incredible! I don't think the roses are too much, to me they seem to create a nice depth to the whole thing where none of the design elements draw the eye more than the others. A+ from me
Red bordered back design is another reason to go with red borders on the faces too, though. Just sayin'...

Amazing. I honestly still don't know how Vol 1's back didn't get any more votes on UC decks of the year awards at the best back category and this is just as good. I wouldn't mind if the border was even thinner honestly.

I like it as is. My only hope is that after printing the black lines are a little...blacker? Not thicker but a deeper black, if that makes any sense. I think that would really set off the other elements. Regardless, that is an awesome back, just the way it is.

If you ever think of doing a limited edition foiled version of your decks (Vol I or II, doesn't matter to me), before going to anyone else, do talk to me. Foil on some areas will just look awesome on such a gorgeous design.

I think the back design is well done. The roses are not too much. I'm not a skull person, but just want to comment that the back design is well executed!
