Blaine Mystery Box

Unread post by tonyricciardi »

Anyone read anything or have any info about the new Mystery Box.
FYI - it's still for sale on his site, both signed and unsigned.

They came out last week. Let me see if I still have the email. I will let you know the content of the unsigned box in a couple of days

The email has a link to a video (youtube I believe) of him signing row upon row of gold gators and abc decks to include in this brick. Seems like a bit of a rip off when you calculate the cost per deck. Probably best not to expect to get anything ultra rare.

The only difference is the red gator versus the green gator in the unsigned box

Thanks for this info. Now i'm glad i didn't buy this because it would have been way too expensive for international buyers. When this came out i added 1 signed box to my cart (350$) then there were 70 $ !!!! taxes added, after that i didn't even continue to shipping which i guess would be another 50+ $ .... No Way!!

What is somewhat maddening is the write up on these being extremely rare decks from David personal collection when almost half the box is on sale on the website for $10-12 a pop. More like extra decks on the racks collecting dust. :ugking:

That's exactly what I was thinking when I received the email. I was thinking "how many decks are REALLY "Extremely Rare." I only thought of the ABC deck, the rainbow white lions and maybe even the Red Gatorbacks. I decided not to get it. Glad I didn't.

You forgot the Microsoft deck. But there's no way that was going to be in this brick because that deck alone sells for more than the entire brick costs, if you can even find it...

Interesting how the "rainbow" deck that was supposedly so rare ended up being available enough to add to the box.

Mike (and Pierre), I think that the deck is just the regular Red White Lions Series A as opposed to the UV or Spectral (Rainbow) version, which are much more rarer. ;)

I sent a message to ask about the Red Series A Rainbow Deck. Keep in mind I purchased the signed box and asked about that one in particular.

"I am curious about the White Lions Series A Red Rainbow deck. Is this a standard red deck or is it the blue UV deck in a red box? The box/label has no mark or dot yet from other sources online it sounds like not every UV deck had the mark on it."

The response: "Thank you for your question. The White Lions Series A Red Rainbow deck has the blue UV deck in a red box."

True, that makes sense, even though that deck is particularly hard to find/"rare". David is good at making things rare, eh

Thanks, Del. That's great to hear. Definitely makes the box more interesting. Now the question is, how do we tell the difference between the decks if there is no dot?

Now we have decks identified / identifiable only by a black Sharpie dot. Hmmm...

From P52:
There are three different types of Rainbow White Lions Series A decks in existence. All three come is a red White Lions Series A box that says Rainbow on the bottom. 1. Red White Lions Series A with no markings - this deck comes in cellophane and has red cards. 2. Red White Lions Series A with a black dot on the deck seal - this deck comes in cellophane and contains blue White Lions cards printed on UV card stock. (Both of the above decks were included in the David Blaine\'s V1 Variety Box). 3. Red White Lions Series A autographed by David Blaine - this deck comes with no cellophane and contains purple White Lions cards (spectral). It was only available with the purchase of the Red White Lions Series A AIP bottle and came in a special two deck gift set that included one regular Red White Lions Series A deck and the autographed purple (spectral) version. Only 100 of them are in existence.

I would tend to believe the statement by DelMagic as the quote from PCF was from when the Blaine's v1 Variety Box came out. I have heard from other sources (including Hikeeba) that there are UV decks that do not have the black dot on them. As DelMagic's source is the David Blaine Shop where he purchased the Mystery Box, I would think that it is credible and we can conclude that there are UV decks w/o the black dot.

The obvious problem now is how does a collector identify the "new" UV decks without the dot from the original Varity Box version with the dot? If a buyer wants to keep their decks sealed, it seems as though you'd have to trust the seller tremendously if you were looking to buy one. *Sighs*

Oh nooo someone might have to sacrifice a WL series A red rainbow lulz...=0... i might be able to take a CAREFUL bullet if I decide to take the cello off when he signs mine??? Which might be better, since I'm trying to put together a brick of his rarest decks all signed w/ his signed brick box (lined w/ red velvet (Inside) and red DB symbols (outside)) and the signatures will pry rub off the cello...=|...the only deck I'm scared to take the cello off is the Create Microsoft Magic Deck!!! Lulz...does anyone know how much all 3 versions of the WL series A (red tucks) go for???

So this is getting even stranger. I too sent an email to DB offices asking about the WL Rainbow deck. Here was their response.

"Thank you for your question. The White Lions Series A Red Rainbow deck has the blue UV deck in a red box. There is a difference in the decks between the Signed and Unsigned Mystery boxes, but we cannot reveal the components of the other box."

I don't understand why they need to be so obtuse about this, but if I had to interpret this response, I would say that both the signed and unsigned mystery boxes contain the UV deck. Still no answer as to how we differentiate the UV decks from the standard Rainbow deck. Any ideas?

They (meaning sealed, White Lions A Rainbow decks which do not have a dot on the seal) apparently cannot be distinguished as to whether they contain UV blue decks or standard red decks without either 1) opening them or 2) being certain of their provenance.

Tony, had you asked specifically about the recent signed or recent unsigned mystery brick?
