"Miles" by Dan
Hi everyone, I'm hoping to get some feedback on a deck design I'm working on. I'm calling it the "Miles" deck. I'm imagining 2 versions, one Simple (and cheap) "Legionary" version and a more intricate "Centurion" version.
Legionary without border:
with border from roman sarcophogi:
Centurion 4 color version:
I want to create something that can come close to replacing my standard "cherubs on bicycles" decks since I really can't identify with cherubs on bicycles. I want it to be dorky enough for other nerds to ask me about it but not gob-smacking enough to draw unsolicited attention. I settled on a scutum because I feel like it adds to my style, is appropriately geeky and is iconic enough to (hopefully) go onto a cardback without smelling like an "art card". I want to make something that is functional for both cardistry and card magic - so I want the back nice and "spinny" and the insides to be nearly standard and identifiable.
I'd rather the design lean toward "I can't believe that doesn't already exist" more than "wow that's amazing art".
So what do you guys think of that? Am I thinking about the right things? What do you think of the design? Does it make you want to work on a new "Testudo" move?
Thanks in advance.

I just heard from The Proclaimers, they would order 500 of these, and then 500 more.
...I'll let myself out.

I think the details would be blurred on the actual card. I think they are too fine.
Unfortunately, your design doesn't appeal to me. There is just too much blank space for a card back for my liking.

Thanks tgunited. What is the minimum line width they'll (USPCC I think) print? I tried to go off others I have but I'm just geussing. Would you like to see it with more flourish density?

I don't know what the minimum is. Most people test with MPC for a demo deck.Danspiral@gmail.com wrote:Thanks tgunited. What is the minimum line width they'll (USPCC I think) print? I tried to go off others I have but I'm just geussing. Would you like to see it with more flourish density?
For me, I consider back design and custom courts when purchasing a deck. Currently, your back design isn't in my wheelhouse. I only tried to offer a suggestion.

Hi,
The absolute minimum line thickness that can be achieved without any bleeding of the line is 0.2 PT and this would be a single pms colour on white or the other way around. If you have colours in CMYK values the lines will have to be thicker to counteract the minimal registration shifts between the 4 colours.
hope it helps!

Thank you for that cartamundicards! I'll make some adjustments to the design and get a custom one printed.
