Golden Age Playing Cards

Hello! I'd like to show the first card from the future deck "Golden Age". I've been thinking about the classic theme for long time and here is the first try. Waiting for your comments about the art and the name of the deck.

Art is fantastic, my one complaint is that it's too thin. Too much empty space on either side of the illustration. Her head also seems a bit big for her body but I assume that is intentional.

Index needs more style to it. But damn. You already got me.

Agree that the index needs more style and artwork needs to extend out further (this is one reason I don't like borders on courts because unless you work around the index it forces it to the middle). These together make it look like great art slapped onto a card instead of a well designed card. Makes some changes there and you should have a real winner, assuming you learned you lesson on improving the tuck and also have a solid back that is.

Looking this over some more, I have to agree. Too much empty white space that could be filled with more elegant designs but just slightly faded a bit in the background.

I think it looks pretty. My only constructive comment would be to have a look at the way the crown is sitting on her head. It looks like it should fit a little more snugly. I mean more contact with the hair.

The arms don't make any sense... the dagger does not fit with her dreamy look...the custom pup is cool not too much of a fan of the gold design coming down from the spades under the Q though, but the idea has potential. I don't want to seem harsh but the original art was so good and this seems a step in the wrong direction which I hate to see!

I agree 100% I think the changes need to be made to the background, not the queen. Perhaps.

Original queen was better in almost every way, but the background needs to be filled in, even if you just bring the existing border that frames her out further to fill in the negative space with the textured background.

The update was not for my taste and I think you took a major step backwards.

The first queen was much better. The dagger looks out of place. The gold sleeves do not work. The new stylized black spade pip with the gold doesn't work and it seems way too far down. It needs to come up more by a lot.

Experimenting is good, but I would chalk the last revision up to an experiment. I would look at the first version, remove all the background and borders completely. Add a plain black spade pip up to at least the point at around the middle of the Q.

I also agree, this thread should be in the Custom Deck Drafting Board forum.

Using cloth as a transition from one side of the card to the other is hard to do. YOu are close. It seems you need to learn how to fill a card and make it full...

Well, it's really subtle and in the face of the card, it's not a big deal...

Great final look of Queen. I feel like the dividing scroll should say something. The GA looks odd and unnecessary to me, almost distracting from the Queen.

True, but the one one-wayness is in the middle of the card and therefore not to distracting. Also, true a ribbon is usually used for some text, but this person is so close in making traditions work. This ribbon is used as a crutch until they learn how to do transitions.

Much better. But don't forget to keep a nice big spade pip. Only have a spade under the letter doesn't work well. They are cards!
