Re: 2016 ICO Deck - Cardistry
Being a cardistry centric deck, I wish there were thinner borders, especially since EPCC is printing these. I would've also liked to have seen 4 different colors for each of the arms of the diagonal cross instead of just 2 (blue and orange), this would've allowed for more fanning patterns with reverse and giant fans.

In response to one of your comments, you do have a few options to work with

Re: 2016 ICO Deck - Cardistry
Based on your rendering, the only fans that will look like that are half deck Carnahan fans. With the border sized as they are, a standard full deck thumb fan will look much less dynamic due to so much white from the borders. (I'm surprised I'm having this conversation instead of Mr. Border Patrol - Tom must be slipping!) Having said all this, its still very nice to see a deck designed primarily for cardistry, there are far too few decks in this area. This is a good start, and I look forward to v.2.Sparkz wrote:Appreciate the input, there is always next year

I know some magicians prefer standard courts, presumably to arouse less suspicion (I always felt this was a weak argument, especially when you have custom backs). But cardistry-specific decks have no such hang ups and should really benefit from custom courts, especially if they are bold in color and/or design so that both sides of the cards can be visually utilized in certain routines and displays for spectators or in video. Brenden does good work with colorful custom courts, so I'm also really hoping for custom courts.Azid wrote:Cool deck, i like it a lot.
Hopefully it has custom court cards...

Completely agree, and inaccurate fan renderings are just too common.

Re: 2016 ICO Deck - Cardistry
Man, I was really hoping to like this ICO deck since it is supposed to be primarily a cardistry deck. Aside from De'Vo and the Virts (who are basically now just milking re-colors), you don't really see anyone else putting out cardistry decks, so I had high hopes for these. But the borders are disappointingly wide for a cardistry deck, and it appears there are standard courts as well (yeah, yeah, a few tweaks, but basically still in essence standard). Plus, since its an EPCC deck, its going to warp and develop a click-bend within an hour of opening the deck. There are a few good cardistry elements here, but I don't think this deck lives up to it's potential.

Hi - could you please elaborate on this? And, does this happen with both Classic and Master finish stock?sinjin7 wrote:Plus, since its an EPCC deck, its going to warp and develop a click-bend within an hour of opening the deck.

Re: 2016 ICO Deck - Cardistry
Always great to get your input sinjin, we went about this based on what we researched was important to cardists. Now, you know as well as I do you can't please everyone, but your right, we wanted to step beyond the recolor "Staples" and bring something fresh to the cardistry community. We learn by doing and listening to feedback, so we'll keep doing and keep listening once these are in peoples hands.sinjin7 wrote:Man, I was really hoping to like this ICO deck since it is supposed to be primarily a cardistry deck. As for the clicking though, and I'm one of those who has always found that most annoying, this finish doesn't posses that usual trait. It's a new finish from EPCC and they haven't assigned it a name as of yet. The ICO deck is the first to utilize it, once we have more info we'll post it. So while our shop won't have them for a few more days...............I hope those who pick up a deck will chime in on their opinions, good or bad, because without knowing, nothing moves forward.

I really like the quality of EPCC decks. I really would like to see more of the cards, not just the back designs. That's my pet peeve with deck teasers. If they have standard courts, just show them. Anything Brendan Hong is excellent. I'm looking forward to these, but more photos with information would be nice.

Re: 2016 ICO Deck - Cardistry
Sunish, it doesn't happen on the Classic finish, at least on non of the ones I have. It is however common on the Master Finish..........although some people have said they're not aware of it. And as I already mentioned its not appearing on this new EPCC finish the ICO deck is using.guru wrote:Hi - could you please elaborate on this? I think the standardish courts are just fine. But thinner borders for the 2017 deck.

Thank you. Even I haven't seen it but I thought, may be, I've not been such a user of the cards. Still, if it is an issue, it is better to be aware of.Sparkz wrote:Sunish, it doesn't happen on the Classic finish, at least on non of the ones I have. Re: 2016 ICO Deck - Cardistry
Might want to check the color of the suit index to the suit indicator in the 10oS. It doesn't seem to match. Also, the the "10" doesn't exactly line up over the suit. Come on people that is 101 in Cards. The ten card is a special card. It's the only card that has 2 symbols a "1" and "0" to represent the value or rank of the card...

Ah, the colors my bad sprouts, lights were a little hotter at the top, trust me, it's the same. Sprouts, come on, the alignment? Go grab a 10 of spades out of Rider Back or Bee, a standard deck and let me know what you see

Re: 2016 ICO Deck - Cardistry
A click bend is where the whole deck slightly bends or warps in one direction. You can visualize it as such: )))) When you push the middle of the deck to straighten out the bend, you can hear and feel a click or a pop. Then when you release the deck, it'll click or pop again as it reverts back to its original shape.guru wrote:Hi - could you please elaborate on this? In my opinion, I don't think the finish has as much to do with whether a deck warps or gets a click bend, but rather the paper stock and the atmospheric conditions at the factory when the stock is rolled out, compressed, and cut. USPCC decks will occasionally develop click bends as well. My guess is that the paper stock the Taiwanese factory recently is sourcing and using for EPCC decks is especially sensitive to climatic changes. So when an EPCC deck winds up in a home where it is either more humid or more arid than the conditions at the factory, it'll warp and develop a click bend. Hopefully that batch of paper stock runs out quickly and a more stable stock gets used.

Thanks Sinjin7 for sharing your insights. It does help in making a decision on the card stock and EPCC can be asked to take corrective action. I'm also going to ask EPCC for the new finish as well.
