Red Eyes by Jay Losa

Unread post by vasta41 »

There was another "Red Eyes" project a little while ago that got cancelled but this one is different. This was created by the same guy, Jay Losa, who created the Viva Mexico deck.
*EDIT* It looks like the designer, Adrian Valenzuela, is the same. So I guess they revamped it and are giving it another go. Mods- feel free to merge threads if you see fit.

Red Eyes will be going live Monday!! There will be some Early Bird Specials and I will post an update on here a few minutes before the campaign goes live so you don't miss them.
A few things you should know:
  • All tiers include U.S Shipping
Price per deck is higher than Viva Mexico but not by much. Once you see the tuck case design you will understand why (:
For those who paid high customs taxes during Viva Mexico I will do my best to make them as low as possible this time
USPCC will be printing the decks this time around
Last and most importantly, thank you for your support on my previous campaign and this upcoming one. I am eternally grateful, if I ever meet any of you in person don't be shocked if I give you a hug.

We really want to keep the tuck case a surprise until it goes live. It's not your standard shape is all I can say ;)

Sorry to say, but that tuck box is what will be keeping me from backing. Most of my storage is based on the standard 2.5" x 3.5" size of the poker tuck box. I've got to imagine that the height on this is quite a bit more than 3.5". It may be unique, but in this case that is not necessarily a good thing. I still wish you good luck on your campaign.

Interesting and definitely different tuck, but I wonder its practicality...wouldn't it be better to have this as a limited edition or add-on? As it is, I am afraid that this will hinder sales and you might not reach your goal which would be a shame as I like the deck and would like to add it to my collection. :(

Quite the unique tuck here, I like it haha. I'm not concerned about storage at all. While No, these likely wouldn't fit in a cardboard brick box type solution for collection storage. The width of most tucks falls between 15-17mm, which is round about a third of an inch. It's not extending the tuck by five feet, it's extending the tuck by at Most half an inch well within most collections allowance for a finger to access the deck. It won't be a bother for me in the slightest. Jay you may want to list what you project the overall length and width of the tuck will be on your KS page. That may help out some folks the render gives the illusion of it being much thicker than a standard tuck and may lead them to think it's a five inches long even though it's probably less than four.

Anyway, yea I'll be on these no problem. That creepy little girl stealing eyes, ha! Twisted and I love it.
TL:DR It's completely up to you.
We can still be friends.
I actually like playing cards.
We live in interesting times.

Great idea Shermjack! The only problem is it would've been more money to print 100-200 than it is to print 1,000, forcing the add on to be quite high $$$. I understand a lot of collectors don't mind overpaying for something limited but I would like this tuck to be in the hands of everyone, not just the fortunate few.

Interesting that Jay mentioned a few years ago, companies showed no interest in the tuck. You have a designer to make them but it seems like a lot of the community isn't that interested either.

I noticed the tuck doesn't show the name of the deck though it has Red Eyes all over it. If it don't fund, maybe create a normal tuck size for it.

I think the problem is no one in the community except me and a few friends have held the tuck in their hands. It is truly amazing.

I'm not an ego maniac and I do recognize when I'm in the wrong. I did a lot of changes for Viva Mexico because the community asked for them. In this case, I strongly believe the backers will not be disappointed with this tuck if funded.

The tuck does not have the name of the deck, the name of the deck is on the seal. Correct me if I'm wrong but Memento Mori (also designed by Adrian Valenzuela) doesn't have the name on the tuck either, and we all know how big of a success that deck was (because of who it was designed for).

BUT yes, if not successful and we decide to relaunch, it is possible a standard tuck case will be made.

FYI many people here (including myself) don't open all if not most of their decks. So while the feel of the deck in one's hands might be amazing, I will simply be adding it to my collection and putting it on display never to be opened or played with. I do think it's unique and I don't hate it. But like PrincessTrouble I wouldn't be able to fit the deck in my display cases and that's a deal-breaker for me. I almost hate to agree with most here because I do appreciate the innovation but in the end I must say I'd prefer a "normal" tuck. Such a nice deck needs to be displayed in my cases!

Your claims of the tuck box being "Unique" and "Revolutionary" on the kickstarter page seems a tad hasty :? , as i have a pack of cards with this type of box Design...and yes storage is a pain.

:o I have never seen a tuck like this. Mind telling what deck this is?

I would never intentionally name something unique if I knew it had been done before.

A Hex on standardisation bassudry.
These pointy toe'd and eyebrow cocked little deal sealers can stack nex'to my Heckadeck beauties, in a display case of their very own.
Hanging from a fake nine inch copper nail.
Quite possibly a real one.
Whatever.
Nice one Jay !

I'm sure I'm the only person here who had this happen, but it took me a while to realize that the tuck box is shaped like an old fashioned eraser. Once that seeped into my noggin, it all came together for me.

Yeah, a non-standard-sized tuck is inconvenient for storage purposes, but the more I think about it, the more I like it.

Also, I'm one of those goofballs who actually opens my decks and plays with the cards. I enjoy the entire experience of owning these decks, not just the experience of storing them. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!)
