Wild Reign [formerly Wild Kingdom] Playing Cards KS

Unread post by Räpylätassu »

On Kickstarter, looks quite good! If funded, printed by MPC.

Jump on board if you feel like it, the courts are really good work.

Hi everyone! My name is Gregor and I'm the creator of The Wild Kingdom Playing Cards. It's really awesome to see that someone has already posted them here, and given people an opportunity to see them.

To give you a little background and information on the cards without getting into too much detail...
I've always loved playing cards and keep a deck with me wherever I go. I wanted to design a poker deck with 2 specific qualities. Practicality, and Personality. As much as I love the fine art and intricate designs that so many people have put onto playing cards in recent years, I've always been a fan of keeping gaming practical. That means playing cards that are simplistic and visually striking, that don't deter from the gaming experience, but enhance it. As far as "Personality" is concerned, the one thing that I've always thought was missing from classic playing cards, were distinct themes to each suit. After being a big fan of MTG for many years, and seeing the way that each of their 5 colors created personal responses from players, I thought I could create something similar with these playing cards. I decided that animals and our impressions of their personalities would lend itself to creating these connections with players (Not to mention that I love drawing animals). I then created specific backgrounds for each suit, and added many details to create connections between the suits and ranks, and small differences between each mirrored side of the courts.

The Heart Kingdom: Courageous and Loyal (lush leafy background)
The Spade Kingdom: Stealthy and Devious (briar patch background)
The Diamond Kingdom: Clever and Wise (vines and fruits background)
The Club Kingdom: Strong and Steady (wooden branches background)

Please take a look at the kickstarter if you find time. It would be the highest honor for me, to have the support of this community, and I'm happy to have found this great forum (Thanks Roope!) :ucstar:

Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

Cheers!
-Gregor

Congrats on getting funded!

I have spent quite a bit recently, but what the heck, I might be in for one. As I said before, the courts are really nice.

Thank you! I can't believe it was funded in 6 days! I'm over the moon.

I'm going to be working toward some stretch goals for getting a higher quality printer, but it looks like all the good printing companies require you to do 1000 or more decks. What a bummer. I could maybe swing 500 of each of my decks, but 1000 is just too high for the amount of backing I'll have. It won't stop me from trying though. ;)

Just a quick update,

I've added a USPCC printing stretch goal! I'd like to thank the UC community for their friendly advice. I can't wait to see some cardists doing tricks with the Wild Kingdom decks!

Good Job getting funding. Nice artwork on the deck. I really like the pips on the number cards how they are all faintly visible with the number of pips for the cards being in Bold.
Good work.

Thank you, Vincent! I wanted the lotus to represent an explosion of nature, like a symbol of a center point for the birth of Wild kingdom. You can see the lilly on the card backs.

The sublte background on the pip cards represents that same symbol, as though each pip is birthing more and more blossoms as card suits. Glad you noticed :D If you look closely, you can see the lily pad around the center symbol, and even some mushrooms on the outskirts of the blossoming.

This deck/campaign is now called "Wild Reign" due to some trademark concerns.

It's also over $9k, and USPCC printing has been confirmed in the latest update for anyone else sitting on the fence (in the final few minutes).
