Gorilla Deck

Unread post by albinodragon »

We're looking at trying to make this deck finally happen.

If we print at USPCC, it's going to be more expensive because of the Bicycle branding and their printing costs have been going up over the years (especially for a print run of 1,000)

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/14 ... n=c8510af1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We'll offer this internationally and will calculate the actual shipping cost of each pledge level based on each country.

If you want your country included, just comment here.

We will not be making any changes to the deck. It's already cost us more than we'll make, so we're not investing any more time in its design. But if we hit our goal, it will allow us to do a print run so we can all add it to our collections.

Love this deck. Want it.

But... I understand that USPCC prices have gone way up, as has shipping, and I understand that you have already invested a lot of time and $$$ in this project. Still, for a standard deck of custom art (i.e., no metallic inks, no embossed tucks or bleeding edge registration, etc.), the prices are kinda steep. Like, kinda a lot.

I'll probably back it. Probably. But... ouch.

I've been wanting this deck to get printed ever since Edgy Brothers first tried. I will back this deck, even at the prices listed, but I have to agree that this is pricey considering there are no bells & whistles. I realize that you purchased the art from Edgy Bros, which may lead to the higher cost, but I'm not sure how that isn't any different from other companies, such as Collectable Playing Cards, having to compensate one of the artists they use.

I like it. Do wish you could lighten the number card backgrounds but you can't. Hope 4hh time is a winner despite the one deck price. I'm relatively new to buying decks so I don't know manufacturing, artwork purchasing, etc. costs.
Move on, nothing to see here.

Everytime I look at my starred KickStarter list I get sad because this is still in it and I'm reminded how it was never made. This is wonderful news!

Back when you originally proposed this I and others complained about the price since the only thing that seemed to justify the cost was Bicycle branding. However, this does include shipping to US and we understand it's a low volume deck that still has USPCC quality. What's also changed since then is the costs have gone up so $15 shipped without any embossing or anything is still a little high, but it's somewhat reasonable compared to what other decks are going for.

I sure hope you can get the 300+ backers needed to make this happen, but I'm really pulling for you guys and am so pleased it's not dead after all! Any planned date when this may go live?

I like this deck and would most likely support if it goes through as a Bicycle branded deck.

Despite the higher prices, I tend to like the USPCC Bicycle branding because it gives designers a confined space to design within and it's always fun to see what they do WITH the logo as well as around it. When that space isn't there, it's just a regular playing card deck to me. I can see the appeal, but I'm personally more inclined to purchase/support if it was Bicycle. Good luck!

Definitely in for 2. Maybe more, depending on price.

Preferred postage to Australia, but will still pledge if US only. - but likely no more than 2 in that case.

Edit: That's assuming a Bicycle deck. Maybe one otherwise.

I've pledged for the Gorilla deck each time, but it didn't happen. Shipping to Japan, if reasonable, otherwise will ship to a friend's in America and wait.

Bicycle branding, I'll buy less. Cheaper decks, I'll spend more to get more. EPCC and Legends wins the quality/price best bang for buck. USPCC can't even get card registration correct half the time.

Third time's a charm huh?

A gorilla was killed during the weekend at a zoo because of the possibility of it harming a 3 year old that fell into his area.....

I'd like to think the unfortunate accident with the Gorilla in Cincinnati won't adversely affect this campaign. I was sad the first time it failed, and will likely be in for at least one deck, on my limited budget.

Re: Gorilla Deck

Thanks for the feedback guys.

With the gorillas in the news, we aren't sure if it will help or hurt the campaign.

We looked at making the deck cost $10-$12 and trying to find an easy way to do the shipping separately. This would have kept KS from taking 10% of shipping and reduced our overall goal. There didn't appear to be an easy way to do this without just paying another third party anyway.

The way we will organize is this, will be to set the deck price at $12 and then handle shipping for each country. There will be four tiers: 1 deck, 2 decks, 3 decks, and 6 decks. At multiple tiers, we will reduce the price per deck to incentivize anyone to purchase more than one.

Even though Kickstarter doesn't allow for donations to charity, we could still do something like that and point back to our site for details. We're thinking of $1 per pledge to https://gorillafund.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, what do you think?

Looking at going live with this tomorrow morning.

This may be very touchy. If that incident in Cincinnati didn't happen, would people care about gorillas? It's up to Albino Dragon to decide whether to donate, they seem to have a great work culture and are already charitable.

Did this come down in price from when you showed us the project-page-in-progress? Because, the pricing didn't seem to sting anywhere near as much as when I looked at it the first time, especially for higher tiers. '

So, whether it's because the sticker shock wore off, or because you actually lowered the price :D, I'm in for a few decks. Good luck!

We lowered the price for higher tiers. We wanted to encourage picking up multiples of the deck to help get it funded since we don't plan on ever reprinting the deck and would really like to see it succeed this time.

None. We've already lost money on this one, but with the Kickstarter funding, we'll have enough to at least print it and see that it's finally made.
