Funny how that grimauld deck reproduction has teh stadard poker indices but the courts and and text below are of the Spanish type deck (Oros (gold coins
bastos (clubs- as in wooden primitive clubs), copas (chalice/cups), and espadas (swords). Do you know if the poker indices were added to the reproduction?
Very nice collection, jelous

Thanks for the kind words about my cards Pablo19 :D
It is indeed a strange pack with french suit symbols on the number cards and Spanish suit symbols on the court cards :? Maybe made for the Export market or following a "Trend" in card games at the time, who knows :?:
The answer to your question is Yes the indices were added-on. Grimauld has done this to many of their reproductions ,Probably to make them more playable and more accessible to modern players. i personally feel there is no place for modern indices on reproduction packs.but sometime have to suffer them to get a copy of certain decks.

International playing cards produced by John Berry in 2003. This is a reprint of a De La Rue deck published in 1874 for the wedding of Queen Victoria`s second son Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh and Grand Duchess Marie Alexandrovina, daughter of Alexander II of Russia.
1148.JPG
A 4 deck bezique set Imported from America into Britain by L.G Sloan. i Date this set to 1912 :?: My reasoning =
In 1894 the New York Consolidated Co became a subsidiary of U.S.P.C.C and began using the U.S.P.C.C date codes when they first appeared in 1904, from June 1930 the N.Y.C.C and Andrew Dougherty merged to become the ConsolidatedDougherty Co. The date letter is R on all 4 Aces, so between 1904 & 1930 the only R code is from 1912.
Anyone with better knowledge of American decks please correct me if i`m wrong.

Barribal was contracted to work for Waddingtons around about 1921 and he produced many wonderful drawings which were used for Posters and later on for Playing Cards, at the same time waddingtons were beginning to recognise the benefits of offset lithography against the direct method of printing. It is this combination of first-class art work reproduced photographically using modern offset methods that gave Waddingtons a reputation for making High Quality cards early on in their Playing card manufacturing days.
You can see a few more Barribal back designs at the World of Playing Cards site-http://www.wopc.co.uk/waddingtons/barribal
