Re: Fully-Custom ANCIENT ROME Deck
I also prefer the bolder version (#3) ... I would be interested in seeing how you plan to show the odd numbered cards

Re: Fully-Custom ANCIENT ROME Deck
Hey Cbkimble,
That's a great idea! Below is what they look like. I like how the Silver Center piece remains bold, but the decorative arrows are more subtle (and making the Card more playable).
What does everyone else think?
@shermjack - the odd Numbers Cards will be very similar (7 of Clubs attached). It still fits with the idea of the design, I think - most opposing armies aren't equal in size!
thanks, Randy

Thanks for the look at the odd numbered cards I agree with the others and think the new style for the center of the card looks best!

Re: Fully-Custom ANCIENT ROME Deck
Hey Everyone,
I have a new / final version that I think is even a little better than yesterday's changes. The center piece is now Gold, to matchup nicely with the Banners' Gold pattern designs. I originally had the center piece in Gold, but switched it to Silver to contrast against the Gold arrow designs. Anyway, below is the new design!
thanks, Randy

Re: Fully-Custom ANCIENT ROME Deck
You're right Randy, the gold center blends in better with the gold along the edges of the red and blue banner. Looking back at the silver center that's all my eye was drawn too. Good change for me.
Move on, nothing to see here.

Randy - On the 10oH the small pip looks a bit out of place. All the pips should be the same size...

Sprouts, I thought you were all about breaking the rules?!!sprouts1115 wrote:Randy - On the 10oH the small pip looks a bit out of place. All the pips should be the same size...
Actually, I've seen different sized PIPs witchin the same Numbers Card a couple times with recent Decks, so I don't think it's a big deal, at all.
The full-size fifth PIP for the Tens and upper section of Nines makes the design look much too busy. Replacing it with a smaller PIP solved that problem. They look much better, and cleaner, with the smaller scale in place for the fifth PIP!
I'm thinking of them as the banner carriers, or hornblowers of the group. They're not as big and strong as the front-line soldier PIPS.
Thanks, Randy

Hey Pablo,pablo19 wrote:This deck looks great and the theme is great... so overall great. But where are the roman numerals???
I'm glad you like it!
I've been contemplating adding Roman Numerals somewhere on the Numbers Cards, but definitely not in the corners. Roman Numerals as Indices would hinder a Deck's playability greatly!
I have just added them subtly to each of the Numbers Cards. As seen in the attached Eight of Spades, the Roman Numeral location is east of Gaul's name on the Map.
Thanks, Randy

Re: Fully-Custom ANCIENT ROME Deck
Great work!
I had an idea by the way Randy. Now that you are doing a Rome deck and you have already done a Russian themed deck. Imperial Russia was actually sometimes called "The Third Rome" after the Byzantium a ka "The Second Rome" fell. At least the Russians fancied themselves as such, taking the eagle as an symbol and whatnot. There actually was some legitamacy in the claim as much of the Byzantium people and culture fled to Russia after their falling.
So a logical step after this would be to do a Byzantium themed deck

Any ideas for the jacks? I thought that maybe you could put some greats philosopher or inventors of the respective kings suit they are in!
The first example that comes to my mind is for Seneca, that was Nerone teacher! You need to put a little bit of reasearch if you want to do this tho!

Re: Fully-Custom ANCIENT ROME Deck
@Räpylätassu - I haven't really thought of doing a Byzantium themed design. I don't know much about the time period, so I'll look further into it. Maybe in the future! The Imperial design was easily my favorite Deck project to work on, and the Rome design is quickly taking it's place, so a Byzantium design could be fun.
@Sunz - Below is the outline for the remaining 6 Courts. I'm working on Brutus now. For the Caesar and Antony Decks I wanted to concentrate on the time period of late Julius Caesar / early Augustus.
If the project goes well, I want to do a new design in a year or two that would concentrate mostly on the later Emperors - Nero, Caligula, Sulla, Commodus, Marcus Aurelius, Trajan, Constantine, Hadrian, Tiberius, Julia the Elder…
Remaining Courts for the Antony / Caesar Decks:
Jack of Spades - Cicero
Jack of Diamonds - Brutus
Queen of Diamonds - Servilia
Jack of Clubs - Cassius
Jack of Hearts - Marcus Agrippa
Queen of Hearts - Livia Drusilla
thanks, Randy

Hey Everyone,
Last night I finished up the seventh Court Card - Brutus' Jack of Diamonds!
Here's a link to the Hi Res: http://www.midnightcardcompany.com/ROME ... mondHR.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I also whipped up a little side-by-side to see how well Brutus and Caesars' Cards compliment each other. I think they flow together nicely!
