Tom Dawson, President of 52+Joker passed away today

For those that are members of the 52+joker club, it is with a heavy heart to announce Tom Dawson has passed away a 3 week respiratory illness. He was a major part of 52+joker and he will be missed.

Sad news, without details for now. Tom Dawson died this afternoon peacefully at home surrounded by family.

I wish Judy and kids well, and hope this wasn't unexpected.

Very sad news. I had met Tom a few times and he was an amazing guy with an incredible amount of knowledge about playing cards.

I just logged on to share the sad news of Tom's passing if it wasn't already known here.

Instead, a few thoughts about the Dawson:

Through Tom and Judy's work in "52+Joker" and their taking on the daunting responsibility of maintaining the "Hochman's Encyclopedia of American Playing Cards" and its companion Price Guide, they have contributed hugely to the world of Collecting Playing Cards, particularly ones published in America, and we who share in their hobby/passion owe them both a big debt of gratitude for their decades of work within it.

I had the pleasure of meeting the Dawsons at several 52+J conventions from 1996-2000, and their knowledge about playing cards was indeed...encyclopedic. They, along with Bob & Rhonda Hawes, were the first people within the hobby to contact me at my old card-related web site. In fact, before I heard from them, I had wondered if I was the only person in the world with this unusual hobby!

My sincere condolences go out to Judy and the rest of her and Tom's family.

Sad to hear. Never met him unfortunately but I did see their video on Youtube once. RIP Tom. My condolences to Judy and their family.
