Rise of a Nation Cards by Barclay Mountain Co funding on KS

Unread post by rjtomlinson1977 »

Changed thread title per the rest of this conversation and also added "Noon Friday" to the end, since that's when RJ indicated it will be punted on Kickstarter. If that needs another revision, please let me know (actually, RJ, since you posted this originally, you should be able to much around with that yourself). >Mike<

Here's a preview link to my first Kickstarter project under my new company, the Barclay Mountain Co.

Please give me any feedback you can think of before I launch it.

It'say 04.36 am here so I can only write english in it's most primitive form right now, so I am going to only say that I love this design.

Nothing else right now, let's see if I can make some intelligent comments in the morning. Bottom line: Great deck. Me tired.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Might need to do a bit of a name change so if you have any suggestions... fire away. The working title for the project was Liberty Tree but since much of the deck focuses on the post-war years and the building of Washington DC I wasn't sure if Liberty Tree was good since it was a tree that was cut down in Boston before the war even started.
I wasn't too keen on Birth of a Nation but I couldn't think of anything better. It also led to future titles in the series that connected nicely.... like Divide of a Nation focusing on the assassination of Abraham Lincoln and the conspiracy to re-ignite the Civil War... Rise of a Nation focusing on the years when FDR (a Freemason) help rise the nation out of the great depression and also how we rose to the challenges of WWII. It would also touch base on the creation of the one dollar bill which FDR and Henry Wallace (another Freemason) was responsible for putting the great seal (all seeing eye) on the back of the dollar.... and last but not least, Fear of a Nation which would focus on the Cold War years and the assassination of John F Kennedy. By the way, John F Kennedy has a famous speech where he warned against secret societies... not long before he met his untimely demise.

Nice, love the pips / aged look of the cards, but don't really like the count (just me) and lovely touch with the ad cards? (liberty and code)

I love how your cards tell story but not in a way that makes me ask, "why is this a deck of cards?" I think you realize it's a deck of cards first and a story second which in my opinion is a very good thing. I don't think the name is too bad.. thought it could be a tiny bit better but once you described your plan for possible future decks I'd leave it just the way it is.

Unless I change my mind again, I'm going to move the title of the third installment to this installment. So, instead of being called Birth of a Nation this deck will be Rise of a Nation. Why, you might ask? I guess Birth of a Nation was the name of a controversial silent film from 1915 that portrayed black people in a bad light. So, unless I want Donald Trump as one of my only backers... I might want to change the name.
Now I only need to think of what to rename the third installment (about the FDR years).
Once I make the updates and add a few more photos I should be ready to launch tomorrow, March 20th at Noon Est. Standard Time.

As much as I love theses and I do. Can we just skip ahead to the Third Installment? IMO i believe that during his term as President, was America's best story. The great Depression, Prohibition was now over, WW2. Woman had just won the right to vote. The most powerful man in the country at the time had polio and no one really knew. I have been waiting for a deck of cards to focus primarily on these years. Ill just sign my paycheck over to you. sound good.

Possible name for this deck:

Forging a Nation

or

Building a Nation

Then "Rise" (or, "Rebuilding") can be used later, as intended.

Just a thought.

A few notes I'd like to make.

*If we're going from the beginning, you might want to give a nod to Philadelphia, PA, the original seat for government, and perhaps the Articles of Confederation.
*A counterpart to the Great Depression/WWII/New Deal deck might be a Gilded Age deck, featuring captains of industry and robber barons. Let's call this "Plunder of a Nation".
*Here's an idea you might hate. You can play on the pledge of allegiance. The first one can be "One Nation". Nothing necessary about being born or emerging. Subsequent ones can tack on an additional word. "One Nation, Divided", really hits home, given the pledge's mention of indivisibility. From there you've set the tone, and can make variations. One Nation: Plundered, One Nation, Reborn etc.

I did toss Ben Franklin in as a court card to give Philly some love and Sam Adams in to give Boston some love. I also have Charles Thomson, another patriot from Philadelphia who was responsible for the final design of the great seal. Charles, a secretary/designer from Colonial America, probably never thought he would be represented in a deck of cards. He and Ben both had their hand in the design of the great seal of the United States. If it was up to Ben Franklin, we would have a turkey instead of an eagle.
By the way, I like the idea of the Plunder of a Nation deck.

Wait, don't - they were black, right? (still?) Donna and I will each take a brick, Trump won't be the only one, I promise! Remember, we live in Charleston - we want the original limited edition.

If you can't tell, I'm just sick of being Politically Correct at this point.

Two of my thoughts are either "deceleration of a nation" given the significance of the decleration of independence.
And then "conception of a nation" maybe a step to far before birth. Maybe George and Martha always wanted a country of their own and decided hey lets do this.
And as for the third installment maybe Trials of a nation. Trials as in difficulties and the justice system. Or if is an ending maybe "the success of a nation" given all the success the country had during that period. But now I'm just rambling over excitement.

Yep, I really prefer to have about a month or more to stir the pot before launching a deck on KS, but RJ needs to get things back in line after the mess he had last year. It was right there in his post exactly when it would launch - today at noon his time, same as mine since he's in Leroy Pennsylvania.

Actually I got wooden poker chips from a project once before, I think it was Muertos or something, but yeah still pretty unique.
