Re: Are you ready to take an OATH?
OATH Playing Cards - Collector's Edition:
I started designing this deck -at least in my mind- about a year ago. Things turned out pretty bad for me as all of you know and I had to put it aside for long. Maybe it was for the better as I never stopped thinking about it (and drawing when I could) and little by little it became a very solid concept. For me, the most time consuming part is building the concept. It can take years. Drawing is the final and easiest part. Eventually the deck became my own take on the standard courts and these courts will be used (altered accordingly of course) in a series of decks that are to come.
OATH represents a very significant turn in my designing "career". It WILL NOT BE A KICKSTARTER. The deck will be available only when it will be finished, neatly sealed and ready to ship. It will be produced by me and it will be a showcase of what I can do with my (technically) limited means but my unlimited willingness to deliver the best possible each time. OATH Playing Cards will also be my new brand name, replacing HMPC and this deck will be the first to be produced under this label. OPCC will be producing limited edition decks (well under 1000), exploring new techniques, stocks and finishes.
With metallic inks on both the faces and the back and a sophisticated but not overloaded tuck case, "OATH - collector's edition" will be the elaborate and limited version of my standard deck.

Love the back but the king of clubs is kinda hard to look at. Lol. I look forward to seeing more and I'm definitely looking forward to taking the OATH.

But really though, the design is smashing. Something to aim at, as an aspiring designer.

Re: Are you ready to take an OATH?
I love that you're weaning yourself off of Kickstarter, I know you'll have the full support of UC with the launching of your new card company. The back design is very nice, very Lotrek, but the color scheme seems to be almost identical to Grotesque. Personally, I'd like to see the back color scheme to be new and different from Grotesque, especially since you're moving on from HMPCC to OPCC. I love the court cards so far and eagerly await to see more.

That color scheme is exactly how I was able to identify that it was Lotrek's design. I do agree it should be different.sinjin7 wrote:I love that you're weaning yourself off of Kickstarter, I know you'll have the full support of UC with the launching of your new card company. Hmm, this has two interpretations:Talisman wrote:That color scheme is exactly how I was able to identify that it was Lotrek's design. 1) I have a distinct and recognizable color style
2) I'm repeating myself!
I admit that maybe I love the combination of black and gold too much... The current scheme is black and gold metallic so it's different from Grotesque. It looks the same in the rendering. However it's not a bad idea to try another combination.
As for KS, I'm not abandoning it altogether but I definitely don't wish to ask for people's money for a future project while I have two pending. It's not only a matter of trust -I know people trust I'm not a scammer- it's more that I think it wouldn't be nice at this point. And yes, I have to prove that I can deliver something more than announcements about production problems.

So a black and a red deck! Only the backs will be recolored? The faces seem to use the same color scheme.

Re: Are you ready to take an OATH?
There will be two editions, each one with different color scheme on both the faces and back. In the last pic I was just playing with some variations. I'm leaning towards having:
Version 1: Red and silver metallic for the back - silver metallic for the faces.
Version 2: Dark blue and gold metallic for the back and gold metallic for the faces.
I'll post some renderings soon.
What I really don't understand is why some people find similarities with the grotesque back...

First of all I love the color schemes you mentioned. Second of all, I personally find similarities in your artwork but I don't know why that's a bad thing.Lotrek wrote:There will be two editions, each one with different color scheme on both the faces and back. I guess that they are refering to Grotesk...Lotrek wrote: What I really don't understand is why some people find similarities with the grotesque back...
And it must be because of the gothic-ish elements and the double sword...
To me it resembles more the ICONS back design than the Grotesk... But still I think this one is very different from both!

True, these are just renderings and the final positioning will be a bit different. Certainly the border on the courts will be thinner but not much.Cbkimble wrote:That's an extremely wide border on the courts isn't it, or is it just me?
