Re: Dave Stevens' Rocketeer Playing Cards [KS]

I appreciate the attempt, but as someone who has all the Dave Stevens Rocketeer comics, a deck that reproduces comic art on the cards doesn't do it for me. In my mind, a home run would be a deck that has a more standard format and uses character art while looking like an "artifact" from th...

I adore this deck's illos and design (I'm especially a sucker for custom pips like on the green deck) but Eric is spot on that this is just too expensive for what it is. And I'm about done supporting Kickstarters for anyone without a WELL established track record, as sad as that is.

I agree with most here that something is "off" about this design, but I can't peg what it is. The illustrations look excellent but somehow all the disparate design elements don't quite come together. I have yet to find a Japan-themed deck that feels like Japan to me.

For anyone interested, the campaign is now rewarding every backer with a free mini-deck. I don't know why this makes me nervous, but it kinda does.

Re: Frontier Playing Cards by Kings Wild Project

Well, I've decided I'm out. I've come to realize as nicely detailed as everything is, I'm just not that big a fan of Jackson's (standard?) illustration style (that regretfully incudes Lord of the Rings). I like him more when he's homaging other styles (Robin Hood, King Arthur, his money decks). Also...

Re: Chronicles Series: Egypt by PlayingCardDecks.com [KS]

Hi everyone. I started working on these decks in December 2023, it was a lot of work. Unfortunately, it is difficult to predict when someone else will release a similar theme. Yes, I know - the Egyptian theme comes up often, but I always dreamed of doing it. The decks are authentic, just collecting...

Re: Frontier Playing Cards by Kings Wild Project

Jackson's kinda non-answer aside, the problematic part is that, as a deck title without the story behind it, it can easily appear that JR endorses the concept and still believes that westward expansion was "Manifest Destiny." He's created a potential minefield with such a simple fix.

After years of subscribing to Jackson's releases (since the beginning of Kings Wild Shorts), I'm a little sad that he no longer produces anything I'm remotely interested in, save Lord of the Rings. And "Manifest Destiny"? Yikes. Yeah, that subtitle is problematic. I'm embarrassed that I d...

Re: Frontier Playing Cards by Kings Wild Project

Yeah, it is gimmicky but it is a 10-day window so not a lot of time invested there at least. The pressure to deliver a deck that everyone still wants after they see the courts will hopefully push him creatively. If day turned dark and this didn't actually fund, he'd still have a realized deck he can...

Re: My first Kickstarter deck

My feedback: 1) Cool idea, but would have been much cooler with original courts that actually take advantage of the dichotomy in their design. 2) As is, it strikes me as a deck design Bicycle would do (can you "sell" a design to USPCC?). 3) Therefor, I'd expect a Bicycle price of $6.99 or ...

How do lefties deal with decks that only have the indices on the upper left hand corner? D'oh! I do really enjoy decks that put the indices in all four corners, and I even own a few "left handed" decks with the indices in the upper right. As for hating lefties... that's only a coincidence...

Beautiful design overall BUT I have a big pet peeve about "index-inside-the-pip" designs and even if I didn't, there is no attempt to marry the style to cards. It is very jarring to my preciously sensitive eyes.
