Re: Thorn Company Playing Cards
Here are some more pictures, but first I could really use a hand. I was in touch with Expert PCC to get some pricing options, as I know they produce high quality cards in small batches. However they ghosted me and I haven’t been able to re-establish communication. Which is really weird, but what can...

Thorn Company Playing Cards
Hello UC! It’s been a while since I’ve last been active here. I started working on this project about 6 years ago, and shared progress on custom deck drafting board (thread: https://unitedcardists.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=7947) but it fizzled out as I didn’t feel I had the resources to see it to...

Re: Crowded Court - handmade(?) playing cards
Good suggestion, I will for sure switch one of the stars to red.
I'm also considering using a commercial playing card coating, as it's proving difficult to make my own, especially on a small budget. Do you think that kills the hand made appeal?

Re: Crowded Court - handmade(?) playing cards
Nobody was really following the link so here's an actual image of what I've got. Looking for feedback on indices, jokers, pip cards, general thoughts. http://i.imgur.com/mjnk3NF.jpg Much as I like the pattern, one-way by design on the back is a step in the wrong direction. It'll look weird when you ...

Re: Crowded Court - handmade(?) playing cards
It's been a little while since I've updated but I wanted to let you guys know that I am still chugging away at this slowly but surely. At this point, I have decided with a certainty to go the hand-made route. I will be printing the cards at a local print studio, with a fairly small run - I'm thinkin...

Re: New deck : illusion . Opinions?
No date for the publication? You just launched a campaign on Kickstarter! I don't like the design. A) It will be very hard to play with as there are no suit indicators underneath the rank index. B) The ornate pattern on the pip cards crowds the indices. C) The graphics look a little bit too much lik...

Re: Crowded Court - handmade(?) playing cards
Played around with the borders and such a bit. Part of the problem is that when I started designing the deck, I just drew the art giving little consideration to the other elements of the card. Now I'm stuck trying to make the composition work. :ugthink: I'm leaning toward keeping the borders. I'd re...

Re: Crowded Court - handmade(?) playing cards
I suggest lose the borders and keep the pips on the left (like Queen of Spades) not like the others. Will try it without the borders, I've been thinking about it for a while. I can easily flip the images where the suit indicators are on the far side, I will definitely try that out. I didn't know th...

haha I love the faces! If it had plainer indices and pip cards, I would be super into this deck. I think this is the first time he hasnt done recoloured courts.

Got the chance to use a computer with photoshop today... turns out I have no idea how to use photoshop. Nevertheless, here's what I came up with in terms of indices, suit indicators, pips, and colours. http://i.imgur.com/RR0HCLA.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/Dd0i4SQ.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/pZfiIaV.jpg?3...

Are there 12 unique colours for each courtier? Because that would be really nice. And cool. This deck is gorgeous.

NCarter, I agree with you whole heartedly, I just don't know if that's what the card collectors want... I think it's usually best to follow your insticts though, and make a product that you think is awesome. And I see what you mean about the Tarocchi cards, I think it would be really fun to make a T...

Re: Olympus Failed Project
Its a real shame this idea has failed twice as its actually quite a nice deck. The only thing that put me off this deck is that it just looks like your standard playing card deck but with beards, spears and lightning bolts. If they looked more "Greek" they might win. http://ejmas.com/jalt...

Re: Crowded Court - handmade(?) playing cards
Maybe the lower the card, the lower the rank? Perhaps rearrange them to show proper rank: King, Queen, prince, princess, duke, duchess, knight, squire, page and so forth down to the jester? That's the idea. My original ranking went (from Ace to King) Child, Beggar, Thief, Player (actor), Farmer, Sm...

Crowded Court - handmade(?) playing cards
Hi! Earlier this year I made a playing card. It was to explore an idea that I had as a kid to make an entire deck of court cards. Just as 13s are Kings, 12s are Queens and Jacks are worth 11, I dreamed that for each rank a courtier would be represented. Over the past months I've been drawing cards t...

Re: Carbon - input welcome
I like the design a lot, oil swirls come to mind. The rank index is a bit too lengthy for comfortable play, the suit index is a bit small. King looks great, I really like the composition and style. The back design could trade the full bleed fan things for a thinner border. Like the pips, dislike the...

Re: BLOOD - New 52Ravens Deck
May I make a suggestion for the backs before you've even started? I think it would be good to have no figures on the back. The design of the clothes on your courts would lend its style perfectly to a back design. Not full bleed, but small border. Not rider back composition, maybe something with a mo...

Damn, those kings are killer. They actually scared me as I scrolled down. (not joking) The only thing I would consider changing is the veins, as Eoghann mentioned. Maybe not even darker, just more natural looking. http://www.bartleby.com/107/Images/small/image557.jpg http://iws.collin.edu/mweis/Imag...

Someone on a different thread was saying that they would pledge for twice as many decks if the artist went with LPCC's classic finish over their diamond finish. I don't know about any of the finishes, haven't heard anything about emerald.

I find this oddly interesting. I'm not pledging just yet, but I'm going to keep my eye on this one. I do too. There's something about it that evokes a kind of spooky feeling. That being said, I think it falls far short of its potential. Looks more like a quickly made flash animation than anything e...
