Re: Beginners in Playing Card Designing
Honestly anything that allows you to punch in accurate physical dimensions should do fine, though some services prefer vector-based files over regular images. It's mostly a matter of where you place the difficulty: During creation by (buying and) learning a new tool, or during export to make your ar...

Re: First deck (tentatively 'Dualism')
As of now, all kings have the topknot. I could add variation, but I haven't found any inspiration for it (yet?)

Re: First deck (tentatively 'Dualism')
I appreciate the feedback on the crowns. I agree they could use a little work. They should depict the Japanese imperial crown: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/6d/Benkan.jpg/460px-Benkan.jpg The edits inspired by the name change were mostly pretty minor, except for the addition...

Re: Beginners in Playing Card Designing
If you need a free alternative to Illustrator, Inkscape is also a decent choice if you make full use of the relevant features. Namely: Linked copies (useful for establishing rotational symmetry) Embedded files (useful for repeated elements like pips) If you don't use those features, or their equival...

Re: First deck (tentatively 'Dualism')
The prototype deck arrived!!! I've got a couple edits I want to make, but I'm mostly satisfied with how the prototype came out. As part of the next iteration, I'm renaming the deck to more closely match the original inspiration/concept. The new name is In-yō (陰陽). It means Yin-Yang (dual cosmic forc...

Re: First deck (tentatively 'Dualism')
Thanks for the complements and feedback! I'll be trying your suggestion with the back, but I think I'll likely not use the white ring in the corner dots, as it may push that feature into 'overly busy' territory. I agree that the Jacks are definitely more minimal than the Queens and Kings, but I'm no...

Re: First deck (tentatively 'Dualism')
Inspired by BaconWise's critique about having 12 unique face cards, I decided to create new designs for the face cards, paying attention to the symbolism and traditional features of each one. https://i.imgur.com/KaMfrHx.png What do you think? Does anything need tweaking? As an additional step, I'm c...

First deck (tentatively 'Dualism')
Hi, I've been working on this deck and would love to get some feedback on it!
Two variations on the back design (borderless, bordered).
The parliament and a selection of numbers.
